That should be “We Brits”. 😁

As an American, I have no problem with “torch” or “lift” or “boot” or “bonnet”. “Articulated lorry” is ridiculously archaic, though.

Subject-verb disagreement such as “Apple are releasing an iPhone 12 mini hardware update soon” is nonsense as there is only one “Apple” (singular corporation) and it is not logical to determine plurality by descending into a set’s contents.

Thank you :)

I have a different issue. My screen doesn’t get very bright. When compared to my XS my mini isn’t as bright on max brightness even though they are rated the same nits.

I have both a case and a screen protector installed and no issues.

Ok tested 2 minis without cases but with ESR screen protectors. Both worked perfect. Put a leather case on one and silicone on the other. Both have a hard time pressing torch but everything else works. It’s Apple cases causing this no doubt.

iPhone 12 mini here and same issues. But I think it will be fix by software update. Why?
- Doesn't appear when unlock
- Only appear when I use my thumb
Same issue here. Thumb (flat press) doesn’t work on Lock Screen and swipe down notifications screen too which looks the same. So, I think it can be patched if Apple wants to.

other info from my debugging experience:
1. Screen protector on, case off = everything works fine.
2. Screen protector and case on = thumb does not work well on lock screen
3. Screen protector on, case on, but I touch the metal part of the phone with a finger while testing the Lock Screen = everything works fine
4. Both on, use fingertips only = everything works fine

lol yeah it seems to only not work with the thumb

That’s the irony. I chose mini because I wanted to use it single handed with my thumb doing all of the typing, clicking, gesturing etc.
Alas! Now with the masks on, I have to hold the phone in one hand and use index finger from the other hand.
If I wanted to use two hands, I could have just gotten the pro Max

Already have issues in my book, no multiple monitor support but for 2 screens. Deal-breaker for me.

EDIT: In laptops that's one screen and the built-in one, in case y'all didn't know.
I was about to buy one and this was the deal breaker for me. I need to be able to drive my 2 displays for when my MacPro 4,1 is down for maintenance 🧑‍🔧

i did speak with someone at apple about this and they said to take the phone to a store. i like the size but i need a screen protector on my phone. i’ll get the pro but i feel like it is too big. even my old x i thought was too big from the moment i bought it.

I have a mini. Everything apart from the two lock screen buttons and passcode is just fine and even they work with a thumb or finger tip.

So sit tight for a fix and enjoy the rest of the phone because it's been a long time coming. iOS 14 and new models have really just been released too. This is almost routine. After working in IT I see this as just another IT problem that will be solved eventually, somehow. We can even immediately work around this one.

Since the problem is most notable when using a screen protector and Apl doesn't encourage the use of them - seems to me that the problem is the screen protector, not the phone
In this case, going to the iPhone 12 mini manufacturer‘s web site and typing in the word „screen“ in their search box, the manufacturer (Apple) even suggests „screen protector for iPhone“ as a search and will then gladly sell you some.

Screen protectors and cases are probably two most commonly sold accessories for any smartphone from any company. For a company that „doesn’t encourage“ screen protectors, they’re must be selling an awful lot of them in their stores.

Just found this video

funny thing is its just the flashlight icon that didnt respond for my gf's mini. She has screen protector and case on. every other areas work except the icon. but if I place the phone down it works. Holding without the case works. This also affected her picking up calls. I suggest you guys test this way as well.

I haven't gotten a case yet but will test it out tmr. but so far with screen protector on and no case it works fine.

That's three of you now that didn't notice that this is the FIRST iPhone mini, let alone in this body design.

Clearly it's not the same device, inside or out. The iPhone 11, Xs, and X shared design, and similar internals.

Keep up folks!
I’d say iPhone 11 and Xr shared the same design, while X, Xs and 11Pro shared the iterations of the same design. In any case, 11 was not the first gen of that design, that’s correct. Hopefully this is just a software glitch as I am planning to get it. Will wait for a couple of months and see...

Grounding issue for sure. It’s not the case. Take it out of the case and put it in a surface that does not conduct electricity. If the screen protector is on, it won’t recognize your thumb. The moment you touch it with your other hand (the static electricity gets dissipated or whatever) it works. It happens even with the Belkin screen protector Apple sells, so I am not going naked on the phone. I will most likely request a refund.

Given it looks like a static electricity issue, you’ve all obviously got the wrong type of carpet. Stand by for iCarpet product release soon.

It's working for you because the Pitaka has cutouts for the ports so more than likely some part of your hand is touching the body of the phone, thus negating the issue. It's only a problem when no part of your hand touches the body of the phone and you have a screen protector on.
