Can you imagine getting a new 12 Mini, and the first day you use it, you can’t input your passcode reliably after multiple attempts, and it locks you out for an hour? Kind of a nightmare, hugely disappointing experience.
Yep, but remember the important part, it was released on time. Next month we'll hear about how it was the best release since forever. Yada, yada, yada.

Mine was due to the glass screen proctor.. Took it off and good as new. Gonna buy another screen proctor and see if the issue happens again.

The iPhone 12 mini has a torch button?

A significant number of new iPhone 12 mini owners are reporting Lock Screen sensitivity issues since receiving their phones. The MacRumors forum has a post running several pages describing the issue, and the thread has been shared on Reddit, where more users are reporting similar problems.

Specifically, the problem manifests for most users when swiping up from the bottom of the Lock Screen using their thumb to unlock the device, or when pressing the torch or camera buttons on the Lock Screen.

The display doesn't always recognize the press or the swipe up to unlock. Other fingers seem to have more luck and the sensitivity issues end once the iPhone 12 mini is unlocked.

Some users speculate that the lack of responsiveness could be a conductivity or grounding issue, because there are reports that it resolves itself when the handset is plugged into a wall charger, or when touching the frame without a case.

However, there's no consensus yet on what's causing the problem and whether it's hardware or software related, but hopefully it's the latter and Apple can release an update to resolve the issue soon.

I wonder how many of these people could potentially be people new to the phones with FaceID and new to the swiping motion? It takes a while to get used to it when you first make the transition.

I had this issue when I had the screen protector on. It wouldn't unlock with my thumb (side to side was ok) but would unlock with the index finger. Once I removed it, it's been good.

That’s because you are probably American 😂 Us Brits use proper English.
That should be “We Brits”. 😁

As an American, I have no problem with “torch” or “lift” or “boot” or “bonnet”. “Articulated lorry” is ridiculously archaic, though.

Subject-verb disagreement such as “Apple are releasing an iPhone 12 mini hardware update soon” is nonsense as there is only one “Apple” (singular corporation) and it is not logical to determine plurality by descending into a set’s contents.

For those with repeatable issue (eg problem went away when charging with a cable), you can probably request an exchange with Apple. Maybe once there are enough people doing it, Apple would investigate.

I have a full-screen glass screen protector on my Mini (Torras glass protector from Amazon) and I don't have these issues. I'm curious if more people with screen protectors or more people with cases are seeing this issue.

UGH I have this problem. It seems to register at the bottom of the screen mostly. Which is a huge problem if you’re wearing a mask and then you also can’t input a password because it isn’t registering inputs at the bottom of the screen.

Same here! When I hold the phone with one hand and swipe with the other hand it works, when i try to unlock/ take photo/ use the torch with only 1 hand it doesn't work. Really hope a software update will fix this since I don't want to go back and forth for exchange : s

Same screen protector as you. With a Pixel 3a, iPhone 7, or iPhone 12 mini case on, and on a table or flat on my lap on a blanket, the touch screen loses responsiveness. There are some who say it doesn't happen so it increases my worry that I'll probably have to return for now. Waiting for a response from Apple hopefully.

Same here. The difference is quite dramatic, without the screen protector the Home Screen is perfectly responsive. After seeing some drop and scratch test videos (that are quite frankly impressive) I'll go without a screen protector, but with the official MagSafe case.

i did speak with someone at apple about this and they said to take the phone to a store. i like the size but i need a screen protector on my phone. i’ll get the pro but i feel like it is too big. even my old x i thought was too big from the moment i bought it.

I thought I was going crazy until I saw this thread. I have an ESR case and screen protector on. With both on using any finger flat on the flashlight or camera button on the Lock Screen doesn’t work, but a finger tip will work. Take the case off and leave the screen protector on and it works fine. Otherwise, I absolutely love this phone.
