This is also affects the ability to enter the passcode. With a case and screen protector on, entering the code with your thumb as you normally would is a no go. If you enter the code with the tip of your thumb or tip of another finger, it works. Same with the swipe. Swipe with the tip of the thumb or other finger and it works.
This is exactly what I’m getting. Thought I was going crazy!

Otherwise the phone is incredible.

yes! i have the same issue. sometimes the button work and sometimes it doesn’t. took screen protector off and it is a little better. if i use the tip of my finger it’s better. definitely an issue. i’ll be returning it if they don’t get it resolved quickly. only have 2 weeks to return it because holiday return policy starts only purchases after nov 11

I would of preferred an iPhone 6-8 size with the new design of the iPhone 12, ie retain home button and bezels. (The current iPhone SE doesn't have new tech inside.)

Updated the software and haven't had any issues (use an ESR screen protector).

Zero problems with the keyboard either (I didn't have any in the first place).

I can say that I was having MAJOR touch screen issues on my iPhone 12 Pro. I mean it was pretty much constant. The screen just randomly would NOT register touch. I returned it and got a new one. New one seems to be much better, but rarely still seems to miss touches.

This is not just happening on the lock screen either - but on everything. On my first phone it was so bad that it took multiple attempts to move the progress slider on a YouTube video, for example, and when the touch was registered, it seemed to lose it while sliding.

Not using any screen protectors at all.

(1) this ABSOLUTELY sucks for the people having this problem and I hope they get new, better working hardware, because (2) this is a GREAT phone when it works.

This user explain what it seems to be a software bug ;)

DONT BUY A NEW TECH PRODUCT ON LAUNCH DAY

Seriously wait 3 months for any hardware and software issues to be fixed. Apple will adjust production to fix this in future iphone minis.

Mines working great! Could be a software issue based on what you are saying with it happening in certain instances.

it has something to do, with not touching the frame while clicking lock buttons. But it can be fixed by a software update. And I can prove it.

If you go to accessibility settings and turn on:
Touch Accommodations
and
Hold Duration

it works, but you’ll get a delay (no less than 0,10 seconds), for every other touch you’ll do afterwards. But proves my point. So we’ve just have to wait for an update.

Unfortunately this doesn’t change anything for me. It simply delays the issue by .1 seconds each time. 😉

It solve for me.
How? Because no more issue, because 0,10s delay freeze the concurrency gestures ;) (because I think it's a software concurrency gestures which canceled each others)
what is good for developers, is food for apple engineers ;) :

I have the exact same thing on my iPhone 12 mini, already noticed it from the start. When plugged into the wall charger, it works perfectly. Strange.

You better believe that! He would actually would use the Mini before release and make it prefect! It would be his phone and you know Jobs, he demands perfection! It would bug him to death and that means hell to pay for his subordinates until it is fixed!
Holding his iPhone 4 awkwardly didn't bug Jobs and he expected it to not bother you too. Apple leadership has some odd requests from its customers. They treat us like employees. we the customers must do what Apple says is best for the company and Apple's agendas. I just picked up 2 iPhone apple adapters. I noticed the box and insides made more trash than if it was included with phone. Well whatever Lord Tim Apple says is good for all of us. Im just a follower. I'l spend some time cranking through the math of saving the environment by buying the adapters separately. bigger box taking up more volume to transport from across the world. I should have paid more attention in math class.

Hahaha… My iPhone does 😛

If you're confused, yours will likely have a 'flashlight' button since for some reason USA decided to rename that object!
You don't want to go there with that logic. It was called an "electric device" in a patent, first brought to market being called a flashlight, and then after that, a torch.
