iPhone 12 mini here and same issues. But I think it will be fix by software update. Why?
- Doesn't appear when unlock
- Only appear when I use my thumb

I think the Lock Screen is not optimized for 5.4 inches by software bug. Try my little finger, everything work fine in Lock Screen. With my big thumb -> not responding.
I think there is an issue why big fingers when iOS don't know if he need to swipe up or respond to an action (torch, respond to call...)
Try little fingers, you will see how it works.
And I think protective screens make harder to iOS to recognize.

So I think don't worry, just software not hardware. I'm sure we'll see next week iOS 14.2.1 resolving this issue :).
It will get fixed a lot quicker if everyone affected contacts Apple. One or two people calling support isn’t going to get Apple moving with haste.

You better believe that! He would actually would use the Mini before release and make it prefect! It would be his phone and you know Jobs, he demands perfection! It would bug him to death and that means hell to pay for his subordinates until it is fixed!
Stevie wouldn’t use a 3rd party screen protector

I have this issue too - iPhone 12 mini, 256, blue, iOS 14.2. Can’t swipe up, no shortcuts, it’s like the bottom 1/4 of the screen is dead sometimes. Seems to happen way more when the phone is cold, like put it in the fridge for 5 mins or so and try it. Happened with and without the case and screen protector on. I thought my fingers were somehow broken. Apple says they haven’t heard anything about this yet :/

is everyone using a glass screen protector or does the problem happen with one of the plastic ones too? I prefer the plastic ones since I always end up shattering my glass protectors. Was going to apply one of the "wet" install plastic screen protectors on my wife's iPhone but won't do it now until they fix the issue or recall the phones.

I have found through personal use trial and error testing (often times) when waking the phone when it has been in sleep mode for a while and then immediately repeating the sleep / wake mode facilitates a better reaction to touch capacity.

You may have a similar experience.

Is that a real photo of someone holding a mini? That looks comically small! Hahaha. It's 'shopped, right?

I guess that is a real photo. Wow, that thing is small!

With 14.2 on my XR and the wife's SE (2nd gen), we're noticing a hesitation with initial typing. Maybe there's some "power-saving optimization" that is making the overall system less responsive to initial touches until it "wakes up" fully?

First i had silicon case with panzerglass and i had same issue. Then i tried to instal beta instead of official ios and one day no problem, than it came back. Then i sell silicon case. ( cause of eczema) and bought leather case with new Fixed glass, problem persist , still having same issue. When pluged to charging its fine.

As a developer, it seem to be a f**** layout issue. I had same issues with one of my app.
I've bad develop the layouts, and UIButton appears on screen but was outside his parent view bounds. So button visible, but out of frame, so not touch responding.
I suspect same issue here, like a sort of 5.8" and higher UI not adapted to 5.4. And when you plug something, UI adapts I don't know how they have manage the Lock Screen.
I'm confident that this will be fix by software update. :)

Gaargggg Apple!

I love this little device, but had exactly the same issue with a Spigen screen protector. Installed it twice perfectly without any dust or bubbles, but the lock screen went wild both times. Did not register touch on the lock screen PIN. Tried two screen protectors, both with the same issue. Tried two cases (Apple leather case, Caudabe Sheath) both with the same issue.

No screen protector and no case = Lock screen PIN works fine
Screen protector installed without case = Look screen PIN works fine
Screen protector installed with case = Lock screen PIN doesnt correctly register touch - will eventually work after trying multiple times or waiting about 5 seconds

Just threw 20 $ worth of screen protectors in the trash 😒

Full screen protector or notch less?

As it will not be; considering the purchase of this 12th gen. mini with this consumer (1st gen. because of screen size and technology in addition to evidentiary status drawing attention to just waiting for next years S gen. mini).
