Just wanted to chime in here as well to say I've been having the same problem as many others. Just came across this thread this morning, but prior to seeing this, I pretty much tried everything. Reset network settings, factory reset, set up as new phone after the factory reset, tried a new SIM, etc. and still have the issue. As many have already mentioned, this only seems to happen while driving. I'm also on Verizon.
Just as an update... I'm still having the same drop connection issue. Happened twice on my way into work this morning. I also updated to 14.2 yesterday. On Verizon with carrier settings 44.0.1, so it doesn't seem the OS update or carrier update fixed the issue for me.

So if the drop problem is still there after the 14.2 update, I suspect there is some kind of hardware issue with the Qualcomm modems that are being used in the iPhone 12 and 12 pro. The 11's used an Intel modem I believe.

The Qualcomm X55 modem 5G/4G spectrum sharing is possibly buggy in hardware. This would explain why Apple refuse to acknowledge that the problem exists - replacing the hardware in thousands of buggy phones is cost prohibitive.

I'm glad I returned my 12 pro while the return window was still open.

I wonder will it be the same issue for 12 Pro Max?

Has anyone been experiencing a ton of dropped calls? This started yesterday. I don’t lose service during this but a minute or so into most of my calls, the calls cuts out completely and both users get the “call failed” beeps. This is on a 12 Pro on Verizon.

Ugh I can’t. The window closed.

I am not sure what is going on but I have had my 12 Pro since Oct 24th. Not only have I had zero issues, this phone will hold a call with no cutting in and out even if I have only one bar.

I am on Sprint - which will also pick up T-Mobile towers. I have 5G and LTE in my area and the phone switches between them seamlessly.

I know a lot of people are blaming Apple and/or Qualcomm but if they were the problem why are some of us having no issues. Furthermore it seems Verizon is having the bulk of the problems, as has been indicated by a huge number of posts stating that, so is it not possible to surmise that Verizon is the problem?

i think it is a verizon problem, ever since they turned on the 5G nationwide ive noticed weaker signal and so has my father and a friend of mine to and they dont even have iPhone 12's at all, weird thing about this is i have no issues with my 12 Pro. hope to have the same luck with my 12 Pro Max

I experienced this same issue back when they first introduced the iPhone 5 with LTE. I just got the 4 and had issues for about four months. I’m assuming someone figured it out. 14.2 seems like it helped in one sense but I still loose service and can’t get it back a few times at home not connected to WiFi. Seems a few spots are issues. Anywhere else, I don’t loose it. Seems like this is a early problem each time carriers/Apple make a leap in generation tech. Have faith that the arguably the best tech company and strong carriers will figure this out in the next update.

In Birmingham AL I've not experienced any total loss of signal on my iPhone 12.
I have maybe had a few more dropped calls than my 11p.
But I also have gotten great signal in areas with poor to no data signal on my 11p.
I think it's for sure a Verizon issue.

iPhone 12 - with T Mobile:

“auto 5g” mode - anyone having issues with phone holding onto 5g indoors instead of switching to LTE? Mine does this all the time and I have to disable 5g to get any speed at all. This phone, despite the Qualcomm modem, still has software that fails to switch to the best network. Very annoying. I’m to the point where I think I’ll just leave the phone in LTE mode.

Phone seems to perform better in 5g when outdoors. Due to T Mobile band technology?

still, am a bit disappointed that Apple advertising this thing as 5g when it can’t automatically pick the best network and sometimes 5g is actually slower than LTE.

have traveled to about 5 US cities this week and had no “no service” or dropped signal so far

Apple is having serious issues with these new phones. ios 14 is causing some people, like myself, to have missed texts in group conversations. Happening on multiple carriers, and Apple blames the carrier. Others are having dropped calls, also on multiple carriers, and once again Apple blames the carriers.

Is this happening with iOS 14.2?

I noticed similar issues since upgrading to 14.2 myself. I had a drop call when at home yesterday where signal dropped to 0 bars and then returned. This morning, I was driving (and as always, was streaming radio), the music stopped and noticed “no service”. I drive by there all the time and always have full service. It recovered and lost signal again a few times. Not sure if it’s the new 5G networks being unstable or issues with the modem, but I decided to initiate a return back to Apple. Got it on release day, but found I had until today to start it. Back to 6S Plus for another year, I guess. I don’t want to be a beta tester when spending so much.

Spoke with Verizon again, was told after a lengthy hold that my 12 pro had a 4G SIM card and they shipped a 5G. I know this probably won’t help but it’s what they “had” to do before escalating to a trouble ticket. The “trouble” is their butts ain’t know what the hell they were doing before turning the 5G on and the 3G off

This isn’t just a verizon issue, having horrible luck with Sprint. iPhone 12 Pro, i contacted Sprint, and they updated my carrier firmware OTA, and it seemed to work for a little while, but i’m still getting issues when transferring towers, and slower speeds in general. I use to get 100+ down in town and now it’s around 35mb/s, when i have service. In front of the retail store after talking to them about the issue, i was only getting .65Mb/s down, with 86% packet loss. This is so ridiculous

Same here with iPhone 12 Pro on iOS 14.2, dual sim, with EE in London. The second sim is connected to Vodafone, has slightly better signal.

But my main issue is that I had no connectivity issues with my iPhone XR with the same setup. While on the new phone I get maximum one bar if anything at all (max two for the second sim). Not even when moving around, just sitting at home. 😩

iOS 14.2 fixed the problem that I couldn’t charge the phone wirelessly. But this connectivity problem remains. Seriously, how many bugs are we supposed to endure when changing to a new model?! These are not minor issues
