Noticing the more people around the faster signal drops. Up to a two dozen so far today.

Man this is insane. I’ve lost signal a total of 32 so far times today. 2 more Verizon phones (6s, SE) were in the house today and it’s been rapid fire signal loss.. The 12 pro can’t even compete for service with these old phones. This is damn right shameful, usually I have three drops maybe in a day.

Y’all. Hear me out... today with family over there was my 12pro, wife’s 12 pro max, a 2020SE and a 6s... my phone dropped service over 30 times in a 4 hour period.. when they left, it’s only dropped once since.. just a theory, if Verizon cut off 3G, and there is no 5G then everyone around is fighting for LTE. Is it out the realm that their system is over burden with an added software issue actually being the problem?

I spoke to Verizon Tech 2 yesterday and the rep states that she believes that its an issue with the phone as opposed to 100% their network being at fault. She did acknowledge that in my area there was congestion due to lack of the 3G towers because they stupidly underestimated how crappy their service would be without it. Being that this is my first device with Verizon she "assured me" that this isn't normal and that its a great service to have....she seemed like a genuine soul so ill take that for what its worth. She stated that Verizon had 0 replacement devices in stock and that if she ordered one I wouldn't receive it till the end of December. It was mentioned that this is the best time to have a device go haywire because during the holiday season they're lax on the 14 day return window. She was able to send me out a signal booster which ill thoroughly enjoy once I get my 12 Pro Max swapped out at Apple this weekend. Let's hope that it won't be another dud and that the screen won't turn yellow or green like other people are complaining about. My return window is up on Black Friday so I hope im making the right decision.

Starting to sound like the Verizon of old back in the early 2000’s when they sucked horribly.

I agree. There seems to be select batches of 12 pro and 12 pro max that are defective. But Verizon specifically has a major issue with LTE not being prepared to handle the traffic now that they eliminated the option of dropping to 3G when congested. So other carriers are having the phone issue still for some people, but Verizon is seeing way more problems because it’s compounding the device issue.

Your recent replacement device.. how’s it holding up?

Wife’s 12 Pro max finally started doing it this morning. Toggle and go...

Activated it Wednesday night haven’t had any dropped calls and have 15-25 times the speed download and 10 times the speed upload pretty consistently. We’ll see how tomorrow goes.
I hope it works out, the SIM card they sent me worked wonderfully for about 36-40 hours and then it started again. Please keep us updated.

My 12 PM having some issues today. Went to a local mall I needed to check in on the web for curbside delivery with all LTE bars showing (Verizon) I had to attempt 4X to log onto webside. The web page would start loading and then hangup with white screen. I have phone on LTE ONLY the 5G is turned off. My 8 plus, which is sitting in the UPS box ready to be returned for trade I may need to keep a while longer as NEVER had that issue. C'mon Apple or Verizon put your helmets on let's get into the game already. Very disappointing.

Everyone knew this would happen years ago when it came time that Verizon started turning off their 3G towers. Their 4G coverage it not as goos as people think. It's not just the 12's having issues. This problem existed with the 11's from last year too. Lots of dropped calls and not reconnecting on the Verizon network. Just go back and check all the same issues last year at this time with Verizon. People tried to blame the Intel modem. It's quite obvious that was not the issue. It's Verizon's poor coverage.

I just found something that might give a clue as to where this is coming from.

The problem that the cell connection drops, seems to be connected to location services. In particular the "precise location" option.

If you have this problem, try the following and see if it makes a difference:

  • First, turn off all your location services (Settings - Privacy - Location Services). Try that for a while in the same places that you had intermittent connectivity issues before.
  • Second, turn on your location services again but make sure to leave the "Precise Location" option off.
  • Third, see if it makes a difference on 4G and 5G Auto/On.

Here is my experience:

After I had turned all location services off, the problem went away. I turned the location for the Apple Maps app back on, but left the "Precise Location" option off. When I was using the Apple Maps app and I selected "Precise Location: Allow Once", the cell connection immediately dropped, very reliably too. This issue happened on 4G/LTE but not on actual 5G in my experience (though actually it's hard to tell when it's on 5G Auto).

So what does this mean? Is there a problem with the antennas in conjunction with GPS? Is it a hardware problem or can Apple fix it via update? So many questions.

Nevermind, I found it.

Regretfully this trick didn’t work for me or my wife

I've been keeping tabs on this because I'm waiting for the issue to be resolved before I purchase an iPhone 12. My question is if this is a Verizon issue, why are my Note 10 plus and Iphone 11 pro Max working fine on Verizon. Why would it only affect the new iphone? Not defending either company, I was hoping to get into the iPhone 12 for a lighter device than the 11 pro max.

It seems to have to do with the type of 5G Verizon has and how the Apple's Qualcomm modem and/or iOS handles connecting. Your Note 10 and iPhone 11 are still only using 4G/LTE and therefore not interacting with 5G. Also it seems even shutting off 5G on the 12's is not helping.

I do believe it is mostly a Verizon issue along with Apple but until the engineers figure it out it seems it is a crap shoot as to whether a particular iPhone 12 will work. Some do... most don't.

I would definitely wait before getting an iPhone 12 on Verizon.

I don’t know. I haven’t had any “no signal” issues on my SAME 12Pro this week. It makes no sense. Legit the only thing I can think of is that Verizon is updating in the background. I still think it’s an issue switching from tower to tower. And I agree not having 3G seems to be an issue.
I haven’t tried to test the “overloaded LTE” thing. I will be driving Down through Boston, so I will report back.

Update on hubby and I 12 pro max pretty much no issues on Verizon but 1 and that was this past Tuesday when calls went to voicemail when we was trying to call each other that day. We both reboot phones and no issues since yet..

That’s how my wife’s 12 Pro max started... she’s had zero issues since the 13th and then she missed a few calls and had voicemails, then a day or so later, boom. Please let us know how it goes

After a hour and half with Apple seniors on my 12 pro and then another 45 mins again with wife’s 12 pro max, no hardware on their end, but wouldn’t acknowledge any software problems and points finger back to carriers. This is unreal....
