Went from NH to The Cape and ZERO issues, unlike when I came down here a couple weeks ago. I don’t get it. Full service the entire time

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible that the phone “learns” the connections/towers over time?

Verizon 12P: First time experienced: I could make calls but not be called, went to voicemail without a ring on either watch or phone. Reboot did not help. Toggling on then off airplane mode fixed it.

I had a Genius Bar appt for my 12 Pro Max....They didn't swap out my phone because they state that they couldn't replicate any issues despite acknowledging that the store has signal boosters and seeing previously logged speed tests. At this point I believe that its carrier related. My phone passed every single diagnostic test possible.

You running iOS beta 14.3??
I am on 14.2.1.
I am CONVINCED it’s a software issue.
I was on 14.2. Had issues. Then days later, no issues.
I was then on 14.2.1 and all the issues were back. Now, weeks later, I have ZERO issues.
it’s a communication issue. It’s not a ale to switch seamlessly from tower to tower. Example.... lost service from one tower while I was legit UNDER a Verizon tower (in a nerd. I can spot the difference between Verizon and other towers. Not as important now as 3G is gone. But they still use the towers)
Of note, there seems to be NO WHERE IN NE with regular 5G. Just a couple of cities with UWB. So I have 5G off

I don’t believe it’s a hardware issue either. Not all iPhones on Verizon or other carriers have this problem. My 12 Pro works perfectly. Haven’t had any connectivity issues since purchased on launch day.

Agreed. My phone is working perfectly now. MUCH Better service than my iPhone X.

My issue with Verizon and my 12 Pro is poor data speeds. Here at home, on LTE (don't get 5G), I can get 100 down easily. Driving around town on 5G/LTE? Sometimes 2 down, sometimes 4, sometimes 12....very sporadic. I didn't have these issues on my X, which was also Qualcomm. I believe it's a carrier profile issue. Verizon did a network synchronization and maybe it helped, but I won't know until I hit the roads tomorrow.

Originally, I was on an old grandfathered unlimited plan with 5G access, but was switched to the newer unlimited plan with access to ultra wide. I feel my performance suffered after that switch, but it could be a teething issue as well. Who knows?

I got my 12 Pro (on Verizon) on launch day and had no problems with it until a few days ago when I started getting the dropped connectivity. Now it's happening multiple times a day and that's with me just sitting at home. The start of this issue pretty much coincided with updating to iOS 14.2.1. Obviously this problem existed before that version, but it certainly hasn't helped.

Update #83532230310

The signal booster that Verizon sent me arrived today....

Before I was at 2-4 MBPS and now im at 30-40 DL and 20-30 UL. I'll take it. It leads me to believe that its really Verizon's service as opposed to the phones themselves. 5G is still stuck in the 2-4 MPBS range...so for now my device is locked on to LTE.

When I spoke with all the Verizon reps these past few weeks, half of them wanted to give me a signal booster, where the other half said it wasn't any good because 'Wi-Fi calling is KING'. So, I think they are depending on Wi-Fi calling to pick up the slack for the 3G that is no longer being used.

I believe we can all agree that they done messed up bigly on this.

I just read this. https://9to5mac.com/2020/12/01/iphone-12-dropping-service-unexpectedly/

This happened to me last week while driving, suddenly I noticed NO bars, no service at all with my Verizon. It didn't come back when I got home. I did a hard reboot and everything was fine. I actually thought since I was about to exchange that phone for a Pacific Blue 30 min. from that time my carrier was swapped to the new phone (Just a thought, I honestly had no idea what was happening)

New Pacific Blue phone, same SIM card did drop total service again yesterday when I was out. This was during the height of some wild storms, severe winds, so now I was wondering if some tower was damaged. No.

Whatever is happening, it's random and seems to only happen when I'm out. Hard reboot seems to restore the connectivity for the time being. 😐

No, the eNB/gNB tell your phone what to connect to, the phone doesn't really get a choice. That is unless you're using some sort of software to lock EARFCN/PCI/Frequency band.

Update, I'm back in the office today where prior I was losing service, I've been trying to pay attention to my service today, and I can't say I've seen it drop service once.

Count me in as one of those affected . 12 pro max on Verizon . It typically happens once a day . It came to a head yesterday when I had to leave the house with my mother in law doing some work outside

turns out she accidentally locked herself outside and was stuck in the cold for two hours . I didn’t receive her calls because I was unaware that I had no signal .

Pretty annoyed by this . I was able to get an exchange processed through Apple for this . Kudos to them. Hopefully I’ll have better luck this time

iPhone 12, not pro. Verizon. Purchased Nov. 4th. Have done everything under the sun and cannot keep a phone call from failing. Sometimes people cannot hear me but I can hear them. Sometimes calls don't ring but show that I've missed them. Apple got disconnected and had to call me 4 times before I could actually answer it. Unfortunately my first 12 started this after week 3 of ownership and subsequently got itself stuck in the restore mode during apples troubleshooting. They sent me a new phone today and I set my new 12 up and after 17 minutes of the first phone call, the call failed. Now in all of this my bars never drop, I always have great signal and that doesn't change - the calls just simply fail. Apple has been pleasant to deal with but Verizon is a nightmare. The latest from Apple was to delete some apps they thought might be causing issues and retry. As soon as I got off the phone with Apple, I tried to call a friend only to have the call fail within 1 minute. Fortunately Apple has given me a link to schedule calls with senior advisors, will be attempting more troubleshooting tomorrow. Can't say for sure it's the same problem the rest of you seem to be having since my failed calls don't appear to be accompanied by lost service or bars but I wanted to add my problems to the list all the same.

Might also add that this spans not only two iphone 12s but multiple resets/restores, as well as the last and the newest ios updates.

The longest I've kept a call was an hour and 7 minutes, the shortest was 1 min. And everything in between.

I didn’t read every post here, but is the consensus that these dropped calls and data outages are on the network side? I have an iPhone 8+ on 14.0 and I’m having pretty much all of the issues mentioned here. Constant “no signal” and drops to 3G as of late. Was rock solid and never had a problem before this 5G thing jumped off. Got a 12 pro coming and wondering if VZW’s network is just jacked up as opposed to hardware/software issues?

Calls failed at least a dozen times within two hours tonight. In the same house, the last few days waiting on replacement 12, my 6S didn't drop a call once. Nor ever in this house for the years I had it prior to my 12.

Bad news, replacement phone number 2 is back to having the issues after a week of excellent performance. Verizon now has backtracked from their previous claims it was a “device issue” to now saying it’s an iOS issue and that there is nothing they can do.

The woman I spoke with at Verizon was adamant it was a software issue with Apple and nothing she could do. I finally had to tell her, Ma'am no one knows what the issue is and if they do they aren't telling us! Ignorant
