Switched from Verizon to AT&T earlier this week, and picked up my 2nd iPhone 12 Pro today (the 1st was returned in less than a week after release). I'm in the Boston area.

No issues so far, but I will report back if problems arise.

Quick update on the above. No issues for me so far.

Welcome to the “no service, toggle airplane mode club” , loads of good people on here with the same problem. We are working together and A lot of us are holding out on a carrier fix/apple software update and a few have returned phones . Wouldn’t want to send back a brand new phone with a problem for a refurbished phone with the same problem. I’ve been having this issue since launch 10/23... IMO I’m hanging on to this phone until someone offers a fix or apple does a recall of some sort.
Since I just got the phone, I was told I could exchange it for a brand new device. Do u think I should do it? What’s the likelihood that there’s a fix for it? I’m still not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, Altho I was on the phone with an Apple senior advisor, and he said that my diagnostic test came back clear.

Yes, exchange it. Apple may get the hint with all the returns

I would not bother. Same hardware, same software, and all you will accomplish is going the time wasted of restoring, entering passwords, etc etc. I am tired of being a beta tester for Apple. Got rid of my iPhone 12 in the first week, don't miss it at all. My 11 Pro Max takes great photos and has a battery that lasts longer without the 5G nonsense. 5G is a joke as of today.

Would someone with an unlocked phone please put a SIM inside from a carrier other than Verizon and see if the problems still exist? I have a 12 on T-Mobile and have never once had a connection nor a dropped call issue. Far fewer AT&T than Verizon people have had issues. But yet everyone still wants to blame Apple and exchange phones! Isn't it just easier to go over to a T-Mobile store and pick up a prepaid SIM and try it out?
I'd go get myself a prepaid Verizon SIM to try but I'm not the one having the problems!
Hey it's only a suggestion. If it happens on Verizon, but not on T-Mobile, that should tell you something!

I can’t believe you are powering thru with the phone. I’m using my X and whistling Dixie everyday making calls and having beautiful service. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Exactly how I felt. I was tired of being in the middle of their pissing contest. Infuriating having people from Verizon and Apple act like everyone is kumbaya.

The way I look at this is at the end of the day, if I have to toggle airplane mode a few times a day while sitting on my couch at night until it’s fixed, that’s first world problems and I’ll survive (yes it’s bulls**** but what can we do). I don’t want to give up a brand new phone that may or may not get a replacement that’s worst and not new. I don’t trust any carrier or apple to ship me a “new phone”. Right now, I know what I have, is it annoying? Absolutely but the replacement could come with other problems, my choice is to wait like and every week or so annoy them like a gnat until it’s fixed. Is there anything other then letting them know and aggravating them that will solve the problem? Apparently not. Not into getting my hopes up and being let down and aggravated by replacement phone after replacement phone.

Having issues as well.

Doesn’t matter if I have 5G on, 5G auto, or LTE on.

I just loose connection for no reason. I have to switch to airplane mode and back to get a signal.

iPhone 12 Pro Max on VZW. No 5G here in Mass.

This is unbelievable and very sad. You purchase a $1000+ phone and it doesn't work. I have always had signal strength issues where I live, which is very rural.

What is so puzzling is I bought my husband the 12 Pro and I got the 12 Pro Max. We are on Sprint with a SIM that gives me Sprint towers and access to T-Mobile 5G. I agree 5G is unimpressive and LTE is actually faster but it is all about bandwidth currently. Anyway, both these phones are the most stable phones we have ever owned. We will have one to two bars at home and still can make and hold a call. I have never had to toggle it on/off of airplane mode.

So, for so many predominately Verizon phones to be having problems there is some compatibility issues with the phone and Verizon's network. I get that there are issues with other carriers too but not to the extent of Verizon. I suspect it may be due to how Verizon chose to add 5G but that is only a guess.

Mine was a T Mobile phone with the new SIM that came in the box, problems from day 1.
I suggest taking it to T-Mobile and either trying a new SIM or a new phone. Obviously, that should not be happening as most have not had issues with them.

Why not go back to your old phone for the time being and save paying for a phone that doesn't work properly?

When I hear of issues with these phones on T-Mobile I just think, ok it's a defective phone, it happens. But the thing is, SOO many people have had trouble with Verizon, so few with T-Mobile. I have never once had a connection issue with mine of T-Mobile and as a matter of fact, it's the first iphone I've ever owned where I am getting as good, if not better reception than when I use an Android phone. As a matter of fact, it stays connected to 5g even better than my Samsung S20 FE 5G. The only issues I've had are with messages not always showing notifications on the lock screen. But even this I can work around because it only happens when bluetooth is turned on.

I just spoke to a Verizon rep. She said they had a meeting last week regarding this issue, and it’s happening because they are upgrading their towers and that it’s not an Apple issue, not sure how true this is
This has been my theory and why I've been suggesting that someone with a verizon account and an unlocked phone, try a different carrier in the same phone.
A while back, I posted an explanation of why I thought it was a Verizon issue. Hopefully what she told you was true and they will resolve it soon.

After I spoke to the Verizon rep, I called an Apple sales rep at a store nearby me. He basically said that the connectivity problems were a “known issue” and that it’s unlikely that it’s a hardware problem. He basically hinted that this is something that could be fixed with a software update.

Exactly what I thought too!! I’ve had no issues for weeks so maybe they “updated” the towers here? Still no 5G anywhere in New England save for UWB in a couple of counties. Verizon.

Verizon Executive Relations called today. Call dropped 4 times during the call so she got to see just how bad the issue is. She is giving me a $150 credit, and sending a brand new phone and SIM card box and all. If for whatever reason the issue persists she has next steps prepared. Hopefully this will solve the problem, but if not, hopefully iOS 14.3 dropping by Monday will.
