Found an interesting way to detect that your 12 just lost signal. The phone starts getting warm while searching for a signal, so whether you’re holding it or it’s in your pocket, you can feel it searching.

Slower service and losing service are two different things.
Playing devil’s advocate here. If the networks aren’t up to par, then that would explain a lot and circle back to the original thoughts, carriers weren’t ready for 5G and prematurely cut off 3G

I mean without updates to fix either by apple or the carriers then I would assume people are being quiet due to nothing happening. Also being at home on wifi during Xmas.
I personally can tell you this much... for me the phone is worse at receiving signal compared to my 10 pro max. Fact.
In the same locations (at home and work) the signal is worse. Calls break up and internet is intermittent even when the phone shows 2 bars of signal. No update has yet fixed it. I popped to apple before Christmas and they were going to replace it but I asked to wait until after the festive period. I don’t actually think a replacement will make much difference and believe it’s either the design or the modem so I may have to live with it if I wish to keep an iPhone 12. But hoping for a fix

I tried something just out of sheer curiosity and I'm relived yet irritated.

My Verizon device has to operate off of a signal booster in my home otherwise It would be a $1000 paperweight. After talking to Verizon Tech level 2 and inquiring about returning the device and disconnecting services, I decided to ask about having a replacement phone mailed to me as a last ditch effort. I previously made this request however as it was so close to launch day they didn't have the inventory.

Fast forward 2 days later to today I received the replacement device only to have the same issues as the 1st phone. Being that all of this was going on I decided to leave my T-Mobile phone activated and im glad that I did. I had a random thought to place the T-Mobile sim from my iPhone 11 into the Verizon 12 Pro Max and figured that the replacement device was locked to Verizon. It wasn't.... As soon as my T-Mobile sim registered in the iPhone 12 the speedtest app that was struggling to download on both Verizon 5G and LTE for 5 or so minutes finished downloading instantly on 2 bars of T-Mobile LTE.

Needless to say Verizon can have all off their stuff back.

I pondered keeping the replacement device and just paying it off with Verizon but I much rather deal with T-Mobile If I need to resolve any matters.

I haven't posted an update in a while, so I figured I'd chime in with recent experiences. I am at this point defeated yet hopeful a software update will fix this at some point.

Still experiencing issues where signal goes down to 1 bar with no data for about 10 seconds and then refreshes, causing dropped calls. Happens about 3-4 times a day. Usable, but annoying. With Wi-Fi calling enabled, it is even worse and completely drops, and takes longer to reconnect, so as a workaround, I've disabled it. I should also mention I'm on iOS 14.4 beta 1. The first few days after installing the beta, it stopped, but has since come back.

Verizon 5G Nationwide came to southern CT a few weeks ago and I'm sad to report it has made no difference with the issue. Even with strong 5G signal, these "signal glitches" for lack of a better term, still happen. If it's not resolved in the next few months, I may consider trying out a different carrier and see if I get a better experience there. I may try Mint mobile on eSIM and compare side by side to Verizon to see if coverage will work.

Update.....

So I purchased an old iPhone6 online for $40 bucks. Traded it in for a $579 credit. Reordered the 12pro. First couple days were good. Since then its been awful. Sitting in my house where my X works beautifully the 12pro loses all service. My guess is people don't even know when this happens unless someone is trying to call you or you are trying to call out. My mother thought I didn't pay my bill as she called and it went directly to voicemail lol.

What carrier do you happen to be using?

Verizon. Check out the screen shots lol
😂😂 I’m convinced that Verizon is a common denominator based on other forums as well. Verizon sent me a signal booster which increased my service but then I realized that essentially I was just using my WiFi being that it had to be hard wired into my router so I unplugged the booster.

I have since began the process of switching over to T-Mobile and decided to randomly do a speed test and was shocked at the results. I’ve only seen 10 mbps in my home at 5 AM a few times and throughout the day it’s usually 1-2 mbps w/o the booster. Today I ran a Speedtest and 40 mbps showed up. It took close to 2 months for signal to be corrected.

Verizon has way too many kinks to work out for me to continue service with them.

Crazy to think Verizon the “elite service provider” is now becoming worse than Sprint. In my parts (mass) Verizon has always been superior.

As we enter into a new year, one thing bonds us together: the horrible experience provided by Verizon and Apple over the past 4 months. May we never be parted of our unique bond. Just kidding, I hope it is parted ASAP.
