So after weeks of zero issues I am experiencing again phases where calls do not reach me (it does not ring), but go directly to voicemail. When this happens I can make calls and do have signal - amazing.

I did have an unrelated conversation with Verizon Executive Relations and inquired about the issue and this is the response I got:

I also have an update regarding the iPhone12 issue you reported and it was brought to our attention that it is a known Apple issue impacting all carriers and even if you update the software, it appears to still continue until there's a fix from Apple.

At least they’ve been acknowledging it. Seems like Apple is still in pure denial.

Crazy to think Verizon the “elite service provider” is now becoming worse than Sprint. In my parts (mass) Verizon has always been superior.
And I fear for the time being this is going to get worse. Trump's FCC commissioners hardly made T-Mobile divest any of Sprint's huge trove of spectrum when they signed off on the merger. So T-Mobile comes out of it with almost as much spectrum as Verizon and AT&T combined. Really, they should have required T-Mobile to sell some of it, most likely to AT&T/Verizon, as Dish seem content to lease their spectrum out and simply operate as an MVNO rather than exercising the possibility of restoring four true competitors. So, going forward, I have every expectation that T-Mobile will end up being THE premium carrier, when we'd really do better having evenly balanced competitors.

I thought I’d try a test to keep the searching for signal problem to a minimum. I turned off cellular data in the settings app while at home and on WiFi. It didn’t help, took about an hour for the searching for signal to start searching again.

If I go in my basement I lose cellular. Then when I come upstairs I have to toggle airplane mode off, then on to get it back.

I have not tried to see how long it would take to find it on its own.

Did not have this issue on my Xs Max. Just on my 12 pro max Verizon.

Soooo.... it’s not isolated. Got it 😂

Just got off the phone with Verizon tier 2 support. They told me that they are waiting for Apple to fix this problem via software. They stated that Apple is starting rolling out iPhone 12 specific versions of iOS 14.3.1 based on build configurations. I haven’t seen an update past 14.3 yet.

Hoping they’re right about this!

I think I figured out how to fix my intermittent no signal/no sim iPhone 12 Pro on Verizon issue. TLDR: Erase iPhone and Setup as New.

I was a long time AT&T customer who just switched to Verizon since I can see a Verizon 5Guwb cell site outside my window, plus there was nice trade-in value for my iPhone XS.

Last week I convinced Apple to send me a replacement iPhone 12 Pro to help fix my no signal /no sim issue. I backed up my first iPhone 12 Pro, then had to update the new iPhone to 14.3, so I could restore the backup image on to the second 12 Pro. Using my original Verizon 5G sim, the new iPhone worked well for about five hours and then I started to see the no signal/no sim issue on the new phone. Bummer.

Since I had two identical blue iPhone 12 Pro 512GB models, I decided to run a test on my first iPhone 12 Pro. I used iTunes to restore a clean copy of 14.3 on my first iPhone, inserted the Verizon 5G sim and manually setup the iPhone without using the backup image.

Normally I could repro the no signal issue pretty much at will by turning off the phone and then turning it on again and watch it struggle to lock in on a cell signal, or by installing/uninstalling apps and seeing the signal start searching after the install/uninstall.

With the first 12 Pro, now setup as new and on cellular only, the signal was solid when I turned the phone on and when installing/uninstalling apps. So far so good.

To test overnight, I kept WiFi off and streamed a Twitch stream all night over cellular. When I woke up the stream was still going. Great.

Since I had a replacement phone from Apple, my AppleCare switched automatically from the first 12 Pro to the second 12 Pro. So I need to setup as new on the second 12 Pro. So I proceeded to do the following:

  1. Backup 2nd 12 Pro
  2. Restore new backup on 1st 12 Pro, so we can view settings and apps when setting up 2nd 12 Pro from new.
  3. Erase 2nd 12 Pro
  4. Insert Verizon 5G sim in 2nd 12 Pro and setup phone as new. I kept WiFi off during this step and the following steps to test out the cellular connection.
  5. Change settings and install apps as needed.

So it’s been 24 hours since I setup my 2nd 12 Pro as new and I haven’t seen the no signal/no sim issue so far. I’ve been on cellular only most of the time.

Apple can probably fix this in a future release. There’s some setting that gets transferred during the backup/restore process, that makes the no signal/no sim issue pop-up, that the following processes don’t clear as of 14.3.

  1. Reset Network Settings
  2. Reset All Settings
  3. Backup iPhone, Erase All Content and Settings, Restore from Backup

I previously tried the above three work-arounds and none of them worked. But the following did work for me. YMMV

  1. Erase All Content and Settings
  2. Setup iPhone as new

I know it’s a PITA to setup as new, but it’s better than dealing with the no signal issue.

Hmm maybe I have a separate issue as it never says “so service” but the internet and voice calls will cut out whilst still displaying signal. Reset and set as new unfortunately didn’t fix it for me

UPDATE:
Back story is I had 2 12pros and both had this issue. Didn't work for sht in my house where my X works perfectly. I returned them both in the return window. I then ordered a promax and just recvd it. I only ordered it because I have a $580 credit I need to use with a 12 series phone. Any whoo activated the promax last night and immediately started having issues lol. Loss of service, no service, missed calls, texts u name it. What in the world is going on here and how can people accept this!

I’m supposed to finally receive the brand new 12 pro Monday. You may recall I was told at the start of December it would be shipped right away, then spent a month and a half waiting for their IT department to clear an error on the ordering end for the team. If this replacement doesn’t work I think I’m done with Verizon. I still think it’s a hardware issue with certain 12 line devices, but Verizon’s handling has been absolutely horrible and there is nobody above the people I’m working with now to complain to about their terrible job. I just want a working phone.

Received the brand new still in box replacement phone finally yesterday. It came installed with 14.3 so it was manufactured in the past month. Speed is 10x faster both up and down, and no dropped calls yet over the course of a total of 2 hours talk time. Don’t want to curse myself but if this holds it all but proves it’s a hardware issue.

IOS 14.4 is night and day faster for me. So far the two signal drops I’ve encountered only last for a few seconds and picks right up super quick. definitely an improvement, will it hold is the question.

Keep us updated my friend

Funky... don’t leave us hanging, has anything improved since then?
I had fixed my issue before this by erasing my phone and setting it up as new without restoring my backup.

After the reboot I did have a slow/no internet issue even though the signal was 3 bars. Airplane model toggle fixed it.

Also, 14.4 official is out. I saw on the Apple thread it fixed it for one person. But the next day, that same guy stated the problem is back.
