I consolidated and returned cases. I’m now all in with the Sheath. Have the precise gray. The Sheath won’t win a case beauty contest but it checks almost all the boxes. Some won’t agree but the Sheath gives sort of / almost / not quite an Apple Silicone vibe.

Case Closed
  1. Pitaka Ultra-Slim, Gray/Black. 21 grams. Very close to caseless, both in feel and (lack of) protection. Highlights the thinness of the Air.
  2. Apple Clear, Frost. 21 grams. Nice and light, accurate fit, decent grip but a little greasy.
  3. Beats, Granite Grey. 32 grams. Excellent form factor and fit. Super comfortable. Great buttons. Slippery.
  4. Andar Aspen, Camel Tan. 37 grams. Beautiful leather. Decent fit, but could be more precise (typical for leather). Buttons are sharp and too prominent.
  5. Mous Limitless, Aramid. 43 grams. The most secure and grippy feeling of the lot. Extremely clean construction, everything is perfectly aligned and precise. Really no flaws, but it does significantly change the feel of the phone (for better or worse). Expensive.
  6. Mous Limitless, Walnut. Ditto.

That’s it for this round. The only potential cases that could draw me back in would be a Phone Rebel Gen 7 with a thin CC button (like the Apple/Beats), or a Caudabe Paragon with the same. Neither of those are going to happen though.
Those two Mous cases are good looking  Tempted to order the walnut myself ;)

I finally got my dbrand grip case delivered for my 17 Pro Max. It was stuck in customs for half a week.

This makes the third dbrand case I’ve ordered in the last month. Going from a 17 Pro to a 17 air to finally a 17 Pro Max. I am sold on this design and very happy with it. Using the iPhone 17 Pro Max with this case is so much more enjoyable due to how grippy the sides are. The tech wave case for the 17 pro was OK but for the 17 Pro Max, it was just too slippery for me.

As long as dbrand doesn’t change too much, they have a lifelong customer here.

I wrote thank you in the special instructions and got this back. Absolutely made my day. lol!

That’s a nice, well rounded rotation! Congratulations on closing the case(s)!
I also agree about the Mous case. I have the 17 Pro version, so it’s bound to be a bit different, but all in all it is well made and fits perfectly, feeling grippy and secure (and is still easy to remove from the phone). The only gripe I have with it is that it’s the only case I have that I really feel the weight of. It makes the phone feel heavy somehow and also sorta uncomfortable to hold because of the edges. Now I still have some cases incoming in the next days and weeks, so we’ll see if I can finally end my search. Fingers crossed 😅

How’s the Mous form factor though?

How’s the lip/screen border thickness on the dbrand grip? I have the tech woven but contemplating the Rebel Gen 7 Flex and/or Dbrand grip? I can’t decide, I want something sleek and not too heavy but grippy.

Tried apple silicone and swapped it for techwoven, it’s not bad but I feel there’s better out there for the 17 pro.

Anyone here got the phone rebel flex?

Yea I feel the Apple Silicone and Apple Tech Woven offer bare minimum protection but not good drop protection.

Always hated the feel of the Apple Silicone cases. Are they any better this year? Caudabe Sheath has a fantastic grip feel. Apple Silicone always felt too sticky.

Yeah I agree. It’s chonky and on the other end of the elegant-and-smooth-as-a-pebble spectrum, imho. Also adds an edge to the round pro.
I’d trust my phone to survive a drop in it though. Can’t say that for many other cases I currently have 😂
I spent most of last year in extremely minimal cases (or caseless), babying the phone all the time, which frankly gets tiring after a while. I’m enjoying having a couple of cases in the rotation that allow me to toss the phone around without a worry. The nice thing today is that it no longer takes something as bulky as a Defender or Monarch to get that level of protection; cases like the Limitless and Rebel provide more than enough.

Speaking of, my Air in the Limitless is nearly 100 grams lighter than my old 16PM in the PR Gen 6. It’s a tough combo for how light it is.

It’s like Phone Rebel and Mous where the corners are recessed nicely but tapers down in the middle for easier swiping.

I wish the Beats Rugged scored higher in the drop test because I just switched from the Mous back to the Beats and my.... what a relief! This thing feels like heaven in my hands after the rough and edgy Mous case.
I hope my PR Gen 7 gets shipped soon. I'm hoping for a cross between these two when it comes to the feel and protection... And very curious how the Grip will feel compared to these others.

Speaking of the Grip, someone on reddit stated some of the skins (the holo versions) might interfere with reception on the phone and that's why they always include an alternate skin with these?? Can anyone confirm?

I have the flex. Really liking it but finding the back scratches fairly easily. Also had the Gen 7 but sent it back due to scratching. Felt really good in hand and didn’t feel too bulky

My PR Gen 7 shipped super quick via Amazon

I hold my phone on pinky shelf and 3 fingers on the back to prop it up. I like that the Sheath has some “grit” on the back to keep phone more secure. I remember I tried the 15 Pro Synthesis that had a smooth back and didn’t like it because of that.
I hold my phone like that at times and also with my pinky on the side along with my 3 other fingers. The back of my phone is more slippery with the glass protector covering the MagSafe magnet than the back of the paragon case.

I felt that way with the Ghost and Mous. I prefer same all around texture and not too hard material. The Sheath material has some “give / cushion” and of course the Apple Silicone has more “give / cushion”. The Beats same.
