Something bigger is going on. You don't make copy-paste capability into a whole new version release. You don't throw a big conference for copy-paste. If this doesn't see the announcement of upgraded hardware, I'd be surprised.

iTunes 8.1 came out on the 11th, so technically, it's 6 days old. ;)

I wasn't talking about iTunes 8.1, I know when that came out as I downloaded it that day. I was talking about the topic that Sky Blue linked to; it was created just over a day and a half ago.

Sky Blue said:
Search first, then I wouldn't have to get on it in the first place. How would this need an iTunes update when genius pulls data from the iTunes Store?

Yes, well...shhhhh :p
Go bug the people making dozens and dozens of topics about the 3.0 software, just to ask for the thousandth time whether or not they'll have to pay for it ;)

I don't have the time to sit around like some people and read through pages of posts on my iPhone.
So you are implying that the rest of us are not busy, nor do we browse MR with our iPhone/touch?

The nerve of some people.

Anyhow, someone in this thread already posted the time of the event as well as the different times around the world. I am sure that you can find it if you look. :)

Hint, it's on page one of this thread.

I don't think I've ever sent or received an MMS message, so that's pointless to me. A well thought out cut/paste gesture would be nice, but I would really like to see an overall revision of the OS, with a vastly more modern Safari build derived from the latest Webkit technologies (should help speed up rendering). In addition to this, Apple could help the iPhone OS tremendously if they just modified the firmware so that the ARM CPU in the phone wasn't castrated at 412 MHz. Give the iPhone the same 532 MHz speed found in the 2nd gen iPod touch (the same hardware revision as the G3 phone, just less underclocked due to battery life concerns on the phone).

Although the largest bottleneck for the iPhone OS is the fact that the hardware only has a puny 128MB of RAM. And alas, there's no fix, firmware hack or OS update that can help there. Pity Apple didn't include 256MB from the start.

I wonder if this beta will be as locked down and tight-assed as the iPhone OS 2 betas were with regard to installation. That would be a shame--it would be great to see the OS 3 betas leak to the those wacky tubes of the internet so that we could live dangerously and test it ourselves.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

If you have time to write this then surely you have time to google it...

Apple would. And they'll claim they invented copy+paste :apple:

This sort of advance public unveiling has become necessary so that 3rd party developers can update their applications to accommodate any major changes to the iPhone's operating system. As a result, we're likely looking at weeks to months of beta releases before actual delivery of the firmware to end users.

I know that’s a good reason for the delay between the announcement and actual release, but it'll still suck to be waiting even longer to actually get to use these new features. No point getting excited today :(

I think they will also create two developers segments. 99$/year developer can submit any app to the standard store. xxx$/year developer can submit only high-quality apps to a premium store.

If they do, I hope xxx will be acceptable even for us single-man company that want to focus on quality software....

They will also upgrade hardware to allow more complex and resource intensive games.

ok so who has streaming pic/text coverage...best one out there?? gizmodo? any other choices?

So much hate in this forum. A lot of people don't want to MMS to happen. Apparently, you don't need it but to some, it is useful for them. You are not affected if it does happen, you always have the option not to use it and stick to your e-mail for sending photos because they are "better". Don't bring other people down with your crab mentality. I myself would never use a phone camera except probably during emergencies but I do hope other people would get their flash, better lens, increased megapixel because its important to them. Stop being selfish and think about others for once.

When you think about, it really doesn't make sense to throw an event over copy & paste! I have to agree with you on that one.

I'd like to see new hardwares. Maybe it be the 10" category touch screen
or a unibody iPhone. I'm not a fan of the "iPhone nano rumors" so, I don't really care about it.

I have skipped upgrading to iPhone 3G because I am waiting for something special, I hope today is my lucky day.

Push notification is my request too, but mostly I wish for new or improved hardwares

so two steps to get them a picture instead of one. BRILLIANT!

..and also assume they are in front of something that lets them check email.

People are seriously stupidly shortsighted on this forum. By his same logic, we should get rid of text messaging, and only send eMail. eMail already does this, why do we even have texting?

It's hardly rocket science. It's also a more versatile solution, allowing better quality pictures and access from multiple devices. It's actually the more elegant solution.

Indeed they are. If you'd checked my original post, I said that it is rare that people need to share photos instantly when neither are at an email-capable device. If neither are at such a device, the photo could often, in all reality, wait a few hours.
