i just saw 3 guys queuing at an optus shop in melbourne's cbd already:eek:
btw it's freakin cold out there

Wouldn't happen to be the Collins street one would it? I hope the rumours about having enough stock for deposit holders is correct!

And yeah, it's bloody raining out there.

I plan on getting there at 6am.

The Vodafone Oz pricing is good.

AU$189 upfront for the 8Gb on a AU$69 per month plan, 250Gb.

Compare this with Vodafone NZ:

NZ$549 upfront for the 8Gb on a NZ$80 per month plan, 250Gb.

I wish our upfront cost was the same...

Yeah I do have a deposit! So happy days for me (hopefully!)

I don't know mate, it's hard to tell. If Sydney are allegedly getting 14000 then we'd at least get 5000 (maybe Chadstone will get more because Optus organised an event there). That's still HEAPS. I'd assume there would be heaps of staff to cater for the masses, so it might be worth waiting for a gap in deposit holders, if you understand where I'm coming from?

So, I mildly doubt that with the MASSIVE interest in the iPhone that Optus would have such a critically short supply of them. If I was in your position, I'd try my luck.

Hi,

I have a contract with 3 mobile. I have the X-series add-on (with 1gb of data). I want to get a pay-as-you-go iPhone handset - unlock it (via Optus) and then use it with my current 3 mobile sim.

Does anyone here know if you can access the 3g network as part of your X-series with 3? I.e. is anyone already doing this with a 1.1.4 iPhone in Australia?

MadDoc,

I figured it would work (the guy in the store said so) but the Indian chap on the phone seemed to think that voice and SMS would work but NOT data. He said that was the reason 3 wasn't carrying the phone at launch as they are still in beta re: their Planet 3 crap on the iPhone!

MadDoc,

just went to the optus store on george street. there were like 300 people lining up and there was another line for non-deposit holders. I stood there for about 20 minutes before i gave up and went home.

200 at telstra in melbourne
100 at one optus store
25 at a smaller optus store - owner said, 5 prepaid only, all the rest on plans, and 1 phone per person - i wanted 2 so i left

i'll wait till there are no queues - it's just a phone !

How did everyone go? I just walked past an optus reseller in town hall and he looked to have a few.

My current thought at the moment is to cancel my VF contract and pick one up as soon as they're available through Optus. Tell me if this makes sense:

Option 1: Cancel VF, pay 200
Get iPhone within a few weeks.

Option 2: Keep VF, pay 400 all up
Get iPhone in 6 months, potentially a new version.

well???? o1 is cheaper, and you get an iPhone quicker, but o2 might mean a 32gb, or you phoneless waiting for one for ages?

apple store AU is back up, the iPhone dock is $35 wuth a charger and usb

That is true. And my current k770 is starting to die on me.

I'm gonna head up to the Apple Store at lunch, if they have 16gbs I will get one. I don't think I'd need a 32gb iPhone to be honest.

How did you go with Optus?

Hi,
maybe someone can help me with this. I have a prepaid phone from Telstra and would like to get an iPhone from Optus, but I want to keep my current number. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to do it? Telstra Helpservice already told me number porting is possible, but what do I need to do at Optus?
(Sorry I'm new to Australia )
Thanks

And by the way the iPhone firmware 2.0 has already been jailbroken (see mainpage). So for all you guys who want to get the prepaid one from Optus and want to use it on other carriers like 3, this probably means you just have to buy the phone and don't need to charge one month and pay unlocking fees etc.

When you go in to get your phone from Optus just tell them that you want to keep your current number.
