500MB of data is so much. I would like to see anyone try and use more than 500MB. I have a 1st gen i phone and am on the internet everyday, get about 30 emails per day and have email set top check every 15 mins and i have currently only used 350 MB in the past 6 Months. Everyone is stressing but i really dont think it will be an issue for anyone. 90% of people will get by on 100Mb per month EASILY.

@someguy7014 I agree, but to be honest I think I'd rather 500mb than Vodafone's 250mb.

I can see it being something that you'd use alot when you realise what the iPhone can do, and if I'm going to be locked into a contract for 24 months I don't want to be constantly restricting myself or paying massive overuse fees. Plus you might not use that much now, but how much will you use in a year and a half?

Same theory behind why I get $550 worth of calls every month. I rarely go over 300, but it's much cheaper when I do than paying the excess usage charges.

BTW I don't understand people in other threads saying "I went there wanting a black 16gb, came out with an 8gb cause they sold out". Why not just wait a week rather than think "if only..." for 24 months.

HoldFastHope - your are right - i would go for the 500MB too. I think people just need to understand what they are complaining about before they complain, just because they see a number that doesn't look so good.

Can anyone on here prove me wrong?

Does anyone have statistics of themselves using more then 1gb of data in a month?

I'd love to be proved wrong.

I wonder if any got shipped to smaller cities

Well, I rang two Optus stores in Canberra (tuggeranong, civic) and 1 telechoice (belconnen) - NO 16 Gig iPhones!!! Only 8 Gig

They said you can order one and it will be in store in 1-7 days (something like that...)

I might give my my local VF and optus a call now

I agree totally. You'd need to be using it 24/7 to crack 1gb I reckon. My complaint with Vodafone is that I shouldn't be paying more for half the value elsewhere.

Again, though, the iPhone apparently chews through data. Anyone looking to save money by going on a cheaper plan or not adding data to the Vodafone plan will either find themselves with half an iPhone, or massive bills.

Best example... showing your friends your new toy and saying "well it can do this and this, but I can't do it too much this month"

According to a mactalk.com.au post, VF is saying to call back next week if you want to upgrade and stick with them and they'll offer a better deal.

The phrase "too little, too late" comes to mind for me. I gave them every chance to keep my business.

i still havent gotten my "this is you phone number" message from optus...
wtf?
its not working...

i went to my local allphones this morning and asked about optus plans. the fat guy said i cannot get an iphone from optus or vodafone because i'm not an aussie citizen and my current visa runs out in january 09. they said i need to have a visa at least for the time of the contract length. i explained that i will get my new visa in a few months and that even if i was a citizen thats no guarantee that i will pay the monthly contract fees. they just said thats the policy of optus and vodafone and theres nothing they can do.
so i can either get a prepaid one from optus or try getting a contract at hellstra. or i could wait another half a year until i managed to finish the paperwork for my new visa. does anyone know if telstra has similar restrictions? they only mentioned optus and vodafone.
i mean i have a bank account in australia, no debts or other problems, i'm even working here, the only thing is that i don't have a resident visa (yet). pretty stupid somehow... maybe they had some trouble with backpacker who signed up for a contract and then left the country, i don't know.

As second person out the door in BrisVegas for Optus I made a little bitter call to the guys upstairs after the "few minutes" then the "2 hours" then the "4 hours" activation times had passed. Apparently they're expecting a full 24 hour wait for activation. It sounded pretty official-- and they were very apologetic.

Not sure if this only affects new accountholders-- it might do.

Suffice to say, dont hold your breath folks.

Cheers.
Ash.

I've been at the Optus store in Belconnen (not telechoice) and I managed to get a white 16GB. They had about 30 8GB, 15 16GB Black and 20 White. After all the deposit holders had got theirs there was only 5 whites and 20 8s left. Luckily I was close to the start of the line. The guy working their said that the best place to have gone would have been Gunghalin as they didn't have any pre-orders.

Could it be because Optus hasn't been activated on the phone yet?

Which is probably why there are separate contract and pre-paid versions? That pre-paid is already locked to Optus before activating SIM?

i just rang optus.
and they fixed it all up for me. :D
$400 credit... and 1GB downloads...

but i cant do the "txt Balance to 9999" ...
hmmm

Well I might as well ask for them (as in Optus) to order one in for me. I'm thinking Black 16 GB. Hopefully it'll arrive soon!

But anyway, there's no rush - it's holidays for the next week and a half-ish (not that I want to wait that long :D).
