Edit: I think I'll get the $49, no actually the $59 'yes' cap for 24 months with Optus. The $59 cap is only $100 more if you take the 24 month contract; and you get double the data!
Now I just need to go to the store tomorrow and ask them to order a Black 16 GB one.....

over 24mnths the contract is only a total of $5 more giving $50 more calls and 250MB of data extra, but please, look at the white first before getting the black, i was set on black, but in real life the white is soooo much nicer

i remember the choice between the white and black 1g nano, on apple.com the black was SEXY, in life was crap, 6mnths they were cut all over, i got the white to be loyal to the original colour of iPods.

The white ones are gorgeous - really very sleek and they don't seem to show fingerprints or scratches like the black ones do.
I had my Optus contract all drawn up but in the end decided that I really couldn't afford it right now and asked them to tear it up.
Next time, when the time is right, I'll get a white one.
I'm going to wait 'til everything settles down. Maybe next week, maybe next month. I still don't know the full details of the iPhone Telstra plans. If someone could link me to them (the official ones), that'd be great.

I've seen the white in real life, from the back it sure as hell looks better than the black, but just the fact that it's two different colours makes it look weird for me. IMO the black looks classier, the chrome buttons stand out more, and the back matches the front. Plus I'm waiting for my InvisibleShield to come through the mail, so fingerprint smudges and scratches shouldn't be a worry with the black.
White sure as hell looks tasty though, but I rainchecked a black model...so hmm thanks to everyone who has a white model, I'm officially torn between the two now! - but trying to convince myself to stay towards the DARK side.

do you know if optus are still doing rainchecks?
They probably are but from what I gathered yesterday, you still sign and START PAYING for the contract from the day you raincheck. Make sure you ask about that.

& she said they will be getting more stock in next week!
I wonder if any losers ended up waiting in front of the Wollongong Optus shop in the mall? I have convinced myself that if I walk in there right now, I can just get it. Of course, I'd be wrong, but.... There doesn't appear to be a lot of money floating around in Wollongong, and if there is, it's not entirely obvious that it's centred around Crown Street Mall.
I'm sure they sold out pretty quickly though. Nobody was going to line up at Vodafone (if they were smart), and certainly nobody is dumb enough to take Telstra's offer.

Down at almost every store in Melbourne they were not sure when the next batch of stock would arrive. Some said the next week, some said 3 weeks. Hopefully it should be next week, though.
What's with the non-existence of the prepaid 16GB?!
Yeah, the store said the next stock of the iPhone would come on Friday. They said I would probably get it then since not many people had ordered one yet.
