With Telstra's new T'Life store opening tomorrow at 9am I was expecting Telstra to announce that they would be getting the iPhone 3G for there nextG network but now im not so sure now they have announced there iPhone killer the HTC Diamond that would be released 1 week after the iPhone, But now I'm wondering do you think Vodafone or Optus (would be great if both) have been waiting to announce there iPhone plans the same day as the T'Life launch to steal the headlines from Telstra it sound like a good time to stick it to Telstra what do you think??

well.
Vodafone emailed me back....

Dear Adam

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that Vodafone Australia will be offering customers the iPhone 3G for purchase on July 11 2008.

iPhone 3G will be available via Vodafone on both prepay and contract price plans which will include great value data bundles.

At this current time I am unable to advise the cost of the iPhone and the value of the plans which will be offered. Full details of price plans will be made available soon.

If you wish to register your interest in this new product please use the link below. Once you have registered using this link further information will provided to you as soon as it is available.

http://store.vodafone.com.au/iphone/

Vodafone will have a large stock of the iPhone available, however we cannot guarantee that all stores will have a handset available upon request, as we cannot fully estimate what the demand for the iPhone will be.

I look forward to hearing from you soon if I can be of further assistance.

I would like to think that Vodafone and Optus bring the Plans and Prices out tomorrow as it will give them 14 days to get Q&A out of the way and get on with (hopefully) pre registration to guarantee an iPhone on launch day (as o2 UK is reportedly doing)

Optus did something like that.
except it was for people who wanted "priority" and didnt gurantee an iPhone, just a spot in front of the line.

lame.
i hope vodafones going to do it though.
that would be good.

Vodafone have said in a previous press release that they will be taking deposits once there plans have been announced so I hope that means pre-orders but I doubt it :(

DID! anyone just get a really pointless text from Optus talking about how "happy our iPhones will be with Optus"?

3 Hutchison has setup a site to get the public to register there interest for the iPhone, 3 has not got an agreement for the iPhone but they are hoping this will convince Apple to let them sell it, here is there iPhone site http://www.three.com.au/iphone.

I will not be getting it from 3 but I have registered and I think we should all register anyway so Australian's can have a choice of any carrier they want

It's bullsh*t.

3 have already got it and they're drumming up interest to try and make their customers feel like they have some sort of power in the discussions. No petition is going to make Apple say "Yes" or "No" in a business negotiation.

I did think that but wouldn't they be better to announce they had the iPhone and blow Optus and Vodafone out of the water with cheap rates before anyone else dose????

Yip i got it and all my friends(that probly dont know what an iphone is) got the message to

cause' im like
"Um.. ok, yeah sure. whatever"

why would they inform the public through that much advertising (i.e their whole network) when they dont even have prices yet?

Yeah, sound right to me.

Even more, it shows that 3 is desperate. They musn't have been approached or they must have fumbled the negotiations.

Shame, they have the best prices.

i know there's a post above that talks about 3 setting up a website and all for the iPhone but here's some more info about it, if anyone wants to have a look.

as i am with 3, and want to stay with 3 for there great prices please lets get as many people as we can to fill out this thing!

This is very interesting if you are Australia and on Three (the fourth 3G network here - the only one that hasn't got the iPhone). It's quite unusual too!

Three wants our help to convince Apple to give it to them! It's great, tell your friends if you're on this carrier!

Text iPhone to 333000 on your handset.

3 gets customers to pester Apple for iPhone
BY STAFF WRITERS June 26, 2008 04:54pm

3 MOBILE has launched an internet campaign encouraging their customers to "tell the powers that be at Apple" that they want aniPhone on the network.
"We want Apple to see just how much our customers want the iPhone," said director of sales and marketing Noel Hamill.

Apple announced earlier this month a next-generation 3G iPhone would be launched in Australia on July 11.

Optus and Vodafone have confirmed they will sell the phone at launch, while Telstra will follow suit shortly afterwards.

"Ever since Apple's announcement that a 3G iPhone is coming, we've had lots of calls and emails – the main flavour is people wanting to get the value that 3 offers with the iPhone," Mr Hamill said.

The company launched Australia's first 3G network in 2003.

3's campaign to carry the iPhone will begin tomorrow. Customers will be able to join the petition online or through SMS by sending the word "iPhone" to 333 000.

Ah, you really sound like you WORK for 3...

And you want my name, phone number etc...in the vain hope Apple will change its mind. Not today.

This basically confirms that three don't meet Apple's requirements and negotiations have failed. Whether this is because three wanted to plague the iPhone with icons/firmware or another issue. This seems to be a futile attempt for Three to say to Apple "hey this is all the customers you've lost".

well no. i dont work for 3. im still in high school actually, i just really want 3 to get the iPhone. I was simply just providing people with more info.

That's old and fake. 3G is always connected so you won't be paying per time for data. Thanks for posting though...
