Now instead of crashing the App is telling me they couldn't connect to the server and to make a reservation to go to the store...

AT&T store

Sorry, no Visa Debit Cards accepted - I was at the AT&T store today, at&t's website and I called the store directly and they both said the store opens at 9am. Anyways I got there at 8:40am and checked and their doors say Mon-Friday they open at 10am. What a joke. Anyways after 10 am I actually only had to wait maybe 10 minutes, and then they told me they didn't accept Visa debit cards for pre-order. Interesting. I didn't bring any credit cards with me, because I don't use them except for emergencies. Way to go AT&T.

Just to mention, the AT&T store messed up my account and I had to go to the store in order to order my phone, otherwise I could've just gone to an Apple store or ordered it online, because I would've much rather done that.

Epic Fail

thanks ATT, I appreciate your stellar service. now I know what it feels like to own a droid OS;)

Same issue here. Finally had to drop my grandfathered unlimited plan and accept the 2GB plan (more than enough for my wife) just to secure her new phone. She'll never go over and we'll now save $5 a month, but didn't AT&T say we weren't going to have to give up our old unlimited plan with the new phone.

So tired of the BS hurdles (massive lines, server crashes, after the fact price drops, upgrade eligibility issues, etc.) just to remain an Apple Hardware loyalist. I miss the days when 9 out of 10 people said Apple wasn't for them.

Yes, AT&T said we are grandfathered in. Did you order online? I went to a store because I figured something would mess up with my account if I ordered online.

I will be pissed if I lose my unlimited plan. I go over 2GB every month. The local sales rep said that I would be able to keep it, but if something screwy goes on, they will feel the wrath.

OK, so weirdly, I got an error saying my request couldn't be processed but offered to reserve one at my local Apple Store for the full ($699.00) price. So, what the hell, I clicked "reserve" and now have an email. I'm guessing there'll be one there with my name on it and the Apple kids can do the pre-qualification again and fix the price thing. Fingers crossed. But still trying to reserve a second one just in case.

Same thing, after 2 hours I get to reserve one at the Apple store for full price. So I did, not paying an extra $400 when I get there though. Found it odd they didn't ask for any money or give the option to ship it to my house. I'm going to check out the AT&T or Best Buy later today to pre-order one too, since the Apple store is a lot farther away.

I was at an AT&T store this morning to upgrade the phones on our family plan (and preorder one iphone for myself), but they couldn't process the iPhone order. Their entire database that allows iPhone orders to be submitted is down.

Did you happen to ask if they had any clue why the white iPhones are excluded from the pre-order system??

Yep, same thing happened to me. They took my information and told me they would call me right before they placed the order. If I hear nothing, I'm going by there after work.

In a way this is pretty cool & funny that so many people are crashing 2 different huge corporate servers. In another way, it sucks that I don't have iPhones ordered yet.

It's gotta' be AT&T's fault for the pre-order misfire.

Of course Apple is perfect. :D

Wellll....the whole process seems to lock up when Apple has to communicate with AT&T. Maybe that is why more people are having luck on the AT&T site...because it doesn't need to reach out for that extra step.

No luck

Both Apple and ATT are down. When I worked at consumer companies like Virgin Mobile USA.we spent months planning for Christmas. We screwed up the first couple of times but pretty much got it nailed by year 3 where we new our scaling points.

Apple and ATT need to do a much better job of being able to scale for these events. Just saying unusual load is really bad. I would have thought they would have tested the pre-order process and have it throttled so once load passes a certain point you are rejected. Come on folks was no one awake during the scalability 101 talk.

Nice

Hehe, this is getting funny.

Apple Pre-Order fails when looking up the ATT Details
ATT Website doesn't work anymore
ATT Representative over the phone: "I am sorry but I can't process this over the phone you can go to the following websites .... bla bla bla unfortunatley ATT website is currently down, but you can try the Apple website"

And the finger pointing begins.

Can anyone upgrading via Apple.com who got it to work tell me if they had to enter in an email address for instore pickup? I think mine went through but it never asked for an email address.

I went to BestBuy and pre-ordered mine and was in and out in 15 minutes. :)

what a mess att

I get this on the AT&T website.

Due to a system upgrade the site is temporarily unavailable, please try again later. For immediate assistance please contact customer service at 1-800-331-0500.

looks like something happened at the apple site, I'm getting spinning wheels when I enter info or click continue.

After 4 hours of trying I finally got my in store reservation along with the confirmation e-mail from Apple.com.

Just keep pluggin along guys. You'll eventually get through. :D

Ummm....hate to say this, but I just installed the Apple Store App to my Iphone and pretended I was buying one and I got all the way to the end before I cancelled. To those having trouble that are picking up at a store (I didn't see a shipping option) I'd recommend you try that! The app asks if it can find your location and the list of nearby stores pop up! Assuming it will charge the credit card you have stored on Itunes maybe?

Well, this worked for me! After trying several times via Apple's website and getting errors, I just downloaded this app to my iPhone and it went through pretty quickly. It didn't ask me what data or messaging plan I wanted, though--I'm assuming that will happen in-store. Got a confirmation e-mail from Apple as well. The price in the e-mail said $699, but I'm also assuming that it will be reduced to $299 once I get set up. Fingers crossed......

Can't even log in on AT&T any more. It falls when I try to log in with username and password.

This is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy OUT OF HAND!!!!!!!!!

That's waht I did

I just did the same thing. I assume they will be able to fix the $699 price tag at the store. Going to be a madhouse on the 24th it seems. I will try and order one on line later, but I'm done with this crap for a while. Onto the World Cup!!

i tell you, if i didn't love me some apple i would be done with this ****. seriously, they need to re-examine their relationship with at&t. this is launch day, not the day to upgrade your systems at&t.

"Your session has expired due to inactivity. Please try again."

Yes, 74 seconds waiting on you to load the page; that's my fault, just delete all the info I've already put in your stupid web app and let me wait while you reload every page one at a time.

"Your session has expired due to inactivity. Please try again."

Yep, that's right. I've been clicking "Pre-Order" every two minutes for an hour and a half. That's what AT&T calls inactivity (maybe that's why they've dropped every call I've had since April?).

"Your session has expired due to inactivity. Please try again."

Yes, that's right Apple. I've spent 12 seconds waiting on you to load the page, that's inactivity.

This is what Apple used to call a "bad user experience."
