No mobile me, i just cant swallow $100 for mobile me. The crooks had no idea it was the iphone 4, he wanted the "ipod"

Well given the complaints on reception, an iPod is what he got.

That sucks man. I feel for you. I use my iphone all the time and I am paranoid of getting jacked. To get robbed in your own lobby though, that is disconcerting.

If you can find some place else to live I would check into it. I would also investigate getting jacked in your building lobby as being reason enough to break a lease.

yeah a valid point mate :)

although i guess if anyone can carry a gun, then you would want one just to not be caught out....

anyway as i said, must of been horrific for you mate, i dont want to ever know what its like :(

-------At that point to be honest, i was not scared nor shocked. i retain my cool even after i called the cops and joined the search to no avail. I was surprised how calm i was. i was staring at death right in the face but yet i didn't seem to flinch. I have no explanation, He was pointing a "TECH 9"

must be your body going into survival mode, keep calm and do as told i guess, i know i would!!!!!

although im sure it wont be long until its guns everywhere here in the uk, well everywhere apart from our police as that costs money, were currently in a knife epidemic, so the next logical step is guns i guess.....

lucky me, i was robbed on the lobby of where i live by three dudes at gun point, i literally had a gun pointed at my head, they took my iphone 4, wallet and 6 dollars (i don't carry cash).

I am planning on going to the apple store and see what are my options, i have a family plan and i am currently the account holder. I waited 9 hours in line, but i don't really care about the phone or the wallet, the worst thing is that i don't feel safe where a live.

any suggestions?

you should have told them your phone had a signal/antenna issue. Maybe they would have left you alone then. but that sucks.

i dont understand though, even if he had a gun in his situation, if he pulled it out that wouldnt have helped, they would just be pointing guns at each other and the chances of someone, especially the criminals firing would have increased considerably. then not only would he have had his iPhone stolen but he would have had a bullet in his chest...

Yeah, I hear ya but I would rather have the option. Call me crazy but I am a fan of Florida's gun laws.

OP: Did you buy the iphone with a CC? If so, check the terms. You may have a "Purchase Replacement" where within 90 days, you can get a replacement in the event of theft, user damage, or lost

Worth a shot

A question in general regarding this though:
I know my card has a limit of 500 a claim. Would the claim in this case be the cost of the subsidized phone or the unsubsidized price?

unfortunatelly my phone was one of they few perfect iphones, No issues at all!, 5 bars at all times...

Consider yourself lucky. Several months ago I had a MacBook stolen from me, at first I was angry over it. Then, after thinking about it, I was happy that the path my life has followed and that I my personal character would not let me steal from others. I know it sucks, but in the long run you are the lucky one here.

I believe is the subsidized price or the price the item was valued at time of purchase.

+1 - People mistake life for TV.

+1 LCP for me.

Another reason I'd never live in New York, even though I could move there and more than double my salary :( NY Governor would rather let all the criminals walk around with guns and take the guns away from responsible owners.

Where would you live where you won't be robbed, and what would your salary be there?

If it's any consolation, I feel your pain. :( I wasn't robbed at gunpoint, but back in March someone busted into my car when I happened to have all my gear packed into it for an off site project. My Macbook Pro and a couple thousand dollars worth of camera equipment and lenses were stolen.

Shortly thereafter, I did something stupid and left my iPhone 3GS some place, and used mobileMe to lock it down and display a message indicating a reward. I also got the location of where it was. Sadly, all that did was attract the attention of someone who chose to take the iPhone home with them and wipe it clean. I'm presuming they kept it or sold it.

In both cases, the police were of no help at all. They were more than happy to take down serial numbers and document the loss, but aside from that all they could do was remark that these cases are on the rise thanks to the poor economy, And they really weren't going to go out of their way to recover anything.

As for the iPhone: even though I could use MobileMe to track where I left the iPhone and show that someone had taken it home with them, even showing them a map of where the person took it, the police did nothing. The response was "well, we're not going to go track down every guy who steals a cell phone."

So yeah, guard your stuff well. I would still recommend MobileMe, because it's still the best chance you have to recovering a lost iPhone. Just don't count on the cops to be of any help whatsoever. You're on your own.

How scary for you. Take care of yourself. Close call there. Im glad you are ok.

wow

(<--- grew up in New Rochelle, NY)

too bad all criminals know* that law abiding people can't carry in NYC

* the probability is very high that someone is NOT armed

Another reason I refuse to visit NYC anymore, when I used to visit there I constantly felt "wrong" so to speak and even felt like I'd get in trouble for carrying my pocket knife around there.

++1!! LCP is my favorite gun next to my Glock 27...I carry everywhere I go...being a cop, those guys would have been screwed the minute they turned around...lol

2 Suggestions:

(1) File a claim with your CC. AMEX and I believe visa signature both cover this sort of thing for 90 days. Some MCs too.

(2) Then, Add a line to your family account. You'll have to pay an extra $10 a month until your old line is out of contract, so I guess that's $240 over the course of 2 years, but you'll get the full subsidized price on the new phone. That will save you more than $240. Even if it didn't I would rather pay an extra 10 bucks a month than $240 now... Get a new sim for your old number and pop that baby into your new phone. And as a bonus, you have the extra phone number and sim you can use to deal with craigslist people or others you don't want to know your real number :)

Most people who carry knives primarily for protection more than likely have that same knife used by your attacked to harm you instead.

Don't carry one unless you plan to use it.
