well im sorry to hear that. you said you were robbed in a lobby, (no offense) but the chances are if you were in any sort of public place they wouldn't shoot you. as stupid as robbers are they don't want to get caught. one thing is that since they were guys i would swallow my honor and stab them in the balls with my house keys. and also there is a great chance that you would be near a phone once they ran away or drove off. my friend just also just got robbed but for his droid. they came from behind and knocked him out. but i can only sympathize, as talking about what should of done is not going to change anything.

I'm guessing that when you're at gunpoint, you're probably not going to be thinking straight. :D

good point but unless i was taken from behind and knocked out within the second, i would do anything to kill that guy. if they approached me and asked for my phone, i would say the phone wont work without my code and then hit the emergency call and the police will be on there way they might not know what is happening but ill hope the nypd doesn't employ retards. (this is my alternative to fighting). if i saw someone get robbed i would help because unlike the rest of the miserable world im sort of nice.

Most people who carry knives primarily for protection more than likely have that same knife used by your attacked to harm you instead.

Don't carry one unless you plan to use it.

I do plan to use it, I carry it for that reason, though I don't seek to get in to situations to use it. I've been training in Akido for 9 years and know very well how to utilize it.

They'd probably shoot your foot and run. As long as you don't die from the incident they know there won't be any extreme investigation.

There was a study where when people heard one loud noise and then it stopped they would not investigate. Only upon hearing it a second time did they take notice.

There should really be a built in GPS tracker for all iPhones and then when your iPhone is stolen, you call Apple and then they tell you where it is...

shame apple dont have a phone recovery squad, where for a nominal fee, they'll track down and recover your phone..... and violate the offenders with a cucumber

They do with their MobileMe application.

lucky me, i was robbed on the lobby of where i live by three dudes at gun point, i literally had a gun pointed at my head, they took my iphone 4, wallet and 6 dollars (i don't carry cash).

I am planning on going to the apple store and see what are my options, i have a family plan and i am currently the account holder. I waited 9 hours in line, but i don't really care about the phone or the wallet, the worst thing is that i don't feel safe where a live.

any suggestions?

UPDATE: i was talking to an att rep who basically told me that my best option was to cancel my contract, pay ETF, pay what remains of the phone that i no longer have plus pro-rated usage charges which will send my bill upwards of $900 dollars.

UPDATE X2: apple didn't offer me much help either and instead transferred me back to att who ended up saying that i want an iphone i have to pay the full unsubsidized price plus taxes. Even after i told her about the uncontrollable circumstances.

I will try my luck at the apple store where i originally purchased the iphone, i will ultimately be looking into having the ETF waived.

You can wait - guy will come back asking for bumper

Sorry to hear what happened to you but be glad that you walked away from it safely. I do think AT&T should waive the ETF. Good luck to you.

That sucks. Seems your doing okay, though. It would annoy me even more that they were too stupid to even know it was an iPhone 4 despite it being the most-discussed device of the past few months. What idiots. I'll keep in mind to choose an apartment with security in the lobby if I ever rent an apartment no matter how much better another apartment without security with a comparable price may seem.

I hope the suspects are at least found. They deserve a long stay in jail along with anybody connected to them. They really seem as idiotic as criminals can get.

The worst part is they didn't even realize it was a phone. They'll probably just dump it when they figure out they can't do much with it. Sorry to hear that man. Too bad Apple can't activate the MobileMe feature in cases like this.

What do you mean "can't do much with it?" Even with the service deactivated, the iPhone 4 turns into an iPod Touch with a Retina Display!

I'm sorry that happened though. Can you not sign up for mobile me with your s/n on the box and then track your phone?

Damn, NOT a cool story bro!

word

Sorry OP. i look like a straight up hobo when out and about. Ripped socks, ill-fitting clothes, generally ungroomed, still rocking the iP4.

The only time i'm outside in corporate pro attire is in parking garages lol .

They don't even realize the social impact and they wonder why we're racist.

WOW

3 nuckleheads mug a guy and that gives you license to be racist?
//sigh. Anyone could have been mugged and anyone could have done the mugging.

I wasn't trying to be racist. I was trying to neutrally state that they don't realize how they should notice the social impact of mugging somebody. If an area had the majority of muggers being whites, Asians, etc., it would give a bad impression of that one group in that area and people tend to overlook the social impact of crime. I edited my post so it isn't taken in the wrong way and doesn't hijack the conversation.

There is and the Police have the ability to use it. Now the question is, will NYPD utilize it. They do where I live if a felony crime has taken place.

You need to move to Manhattan and get a place with a doorman and security. Let's just hope that's enough.
