Iphone 4S

To people saying we are moaning about no iphone 5, i appreciate the 4s is faster etc but if you have been stuck with a 4 for over a year why would anyone in hell want to upgrade to another 4 which is just "faster" and has a better camera, ridiculous! apple will lose A LOT of customers guaranteed

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5313e Safari/7534.48.3)

If there is no "iPhone 5" tomorrow then why is AT&T stocking cases for such a product? Cases that fit the form factor of the rumored 4.3 inch iPhone.

Either AT&T is stocking cases for a phone that doesn't exist or iPhone 5 gets announced tomorrow.
Because it fits an iPhone 4S. They don't know the name of the next iPhone, so they have a place holder called iPhone 5. This isn't really rocket science.

Apple won't lose customers, they'll just not get many iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 converters. They will still sell quite a few millions.

You do realise a lot of us have 3GSs, tons of people don't even have iPhones and some iPhone 4 will upgrade regardless of what the phone looks like. ;)

Why would you upgrade if you have a 4 anyway ?

How? Are those customers going to dump their 4 and jump to another phone right away? You're sure they won't just keep their current phone and upgrade another iPhone iteration from now? I know a lot of people on these forums bluster about how they'll jump ship but they're insignificant and unreliable. Anyway, you guarantee that Apple will lose a lot of customers, I'm curious about the details of this guarantee.

I am prepared to drop my Thunderbolt for an redesigned Iphone 5, but NOT a spec bumped Iphone 4. Why?

People act like on a phone, a bump in processor speed is going to make that big of a difference. What are you doing on your phone anyway? Rendering videos? Converting Wav's to FLAC? Watching 1080p video? I mean after the Iphone 4 processor/gpu speeds why would a spec bump be a "major" upgrade?

I completely understand why Apple(and most PC manus) only upgrade the processor and keep the same design, because for alot of people processors make a difference in what they do... mainly anything in media editing or creation.

We ARE NOT doing th above on a 3.5in iphone. No way.

This news, if true, will make me wait until Oct 11 for the Nexus Prime or whatever from Google and Samsung.. and if it looks like this...

I am RUNNNING to buy it!

The invite even says there will be a 5 if you look at it. The date is 4, then a PLUS sign and a 1. The plus sign is between the icons.

Thats my point, You wouldnt upgrade if you have a 4 to a 4s, Im pretty sure most people have the 4 I havent seen a 3GS in months although i take your point apple will not do well here to not bring out a redesigned phone which is already substantually lacking behind in terms of technology screen size etc compared to others!

hi all, if this actually has an A5 chip, I would like to upgrade by selling my iP4 on ebay.

How much do you think i could get for my Canadian-Factory-Unlocked iPhone 4 that is in PRISTINE condition, not even the tiniest blemish exists on it.

$400?

The majority of people are locked in on a 2 year contract so people who bought an iPhone 4 won't be upgrading regardless of redesign or not.

oh no... this makes me worry that 'iphone 5' will be 'iphone 4S' ... just better specs and no major redesign :(

So, what's wrong with the current design? I think it's great! Improving performance and adding speech recognition is fabulous. Redesign for the sake of redesign is a total waste!

Also, it's name is not relevant. Calling it an iPhone 4S, 5, or whatever has absolutely no impact on it's performance or how well it's going to fill customer needs. A rose by any other name...

Well, apparently there is quite a multitude around the "Could drop a few hundred bucks IF it is a redesign" threshold. :)

I didn't upgrade my 3GS to a 4. And around me, we're 5 3GS users for 1 4 user... ;)

You'd be surprised to find out how many people would upgrade from iPhone 4 if it were iPhone 5.

but if there is a iPhone 5 which is redesigned why would it be displayed here this case only fits the iPhone 4.

Thanks. It was a nice read. But I still think 300 ppi is arbitrary. The article just seems to go out of its way to justify 326 ppi as a true "retina" display.

It is more likely that they picked exactly 326 ppi because thats what fits exactly four times the pixels in the same size as the 3GS, or a huge coincidence :)

Yeah, and they'll upgrade when there's an iPhone 5, whether tomorrow or 12 months from now. The number of customers Apple will lose if there is 'just' an iPhone 4s announced tomorrow is not as big as some make it out to be, particularly because people are on multi-year contracts.

My experience (Tokyo, this lat year) is: most people around me are stuck to their 3GS (me included). But 95% of strangers I see on the street have the iPhone 4. I bet the 4 made a killing here in Japan.

----

My headphones/mic died a couple of months ago, and I don't wanna buy a new set (nor am I enough of an audiophile to get a pair of 'real' headphones), so pleeease Apple release it soon! Can we say 14th, top tier countries? Perhaps the "no redesign" let down will ensure availability for those of us who do want it?

I can dream...

Stuck with a 4 for over a year? Oh heavens to Betsey! How do you live in a world where you don't get a new phone every six months??

I'm going on 8 years with a Palm Treo 755! And I can't wait for the 4S baby!

Obviously there not going to "dump" their iphone 4s as you say, but if they have to way another 8-12 months for the 5 then im pretty sure they will upgrade to something else. Its common sense thats the guarantee of my guarantee!

I predict that Cook will tell something about how bad big screens are, and why you could possibly wish to own a 3.5" phone.

Everyone on here complains everytime apple doesnt do what the rumor sites suggest is possible then they turn around and preorder the moment they become available. NO matter what apple does tommorrow they will sell more iphones in the first quarter that they become available than they ever have. That is the game. Moving units. If they can do that with a proven design whose costs of production have probably dropped since they have been getting produced for the last 16 months than they will do it. They will probably get a 40-45% margin on the 4S.
