I should've tried the local Telecom shop because then I'd probably have the phone by now! On the other hand, I've received my confirmation email from Telecom which states that I'll get the phone next week. My existing phone has also been swapped onto my new plan.

One person on Geekzone was having some sort of sound issue (although I don't think it was the same problem as in that thread), and Telecom swapped it for a new one.

Swap on the spot? That's impressive. VF makes you sign some agreement waiving your rights to getting an immediate replacement for any defects. You would have to wait for VF to send it back to apple and get it assessed before you get a replacement. It was the case for the 3G, 3GS and 4.

Am currently waiting for my online order from Apple to ship.

Hoping the audio issues have been resolved because a fully functional phone is important for work.

I decided to go see if Telecom had any 32gb ones in stock since my apple order was still not even looking like it was confirmed. They had loads of them and I picked up a white 32gb. We had a bit of drama over the sim, the one telecom gave me was just a standard sized sim so it needed to be cut down. And then it wouldn't work. I was planning to go with 2 degrees anyway. We were able to get a micro sim from 2 degrees for $20 which has 1gb data on it. sweet!

On way back from 2 degrees I saw that noel leeming had the 4s in stock so I bought a black 64gb there (fly buys added bonus!) and then came straight home and cancelled my order with apple.

screens, the black one seems a little cooler in hue, but likely due to the surround colour affecting how the eye perceives colour. home buttons feel fine, can't see any dead pixels... actually can't really see the pixels at all, this screen is amazing. Have not bothered to check for scratches, it's not like I will be placing these into a display case. Just updating them both before I check out the other features.

I've come to the conclusion that either kiwis are easy to please, or we got a good batch of phones

yeah, I was a bit annoyed actually, I would have bought both from noel lemmings if I knew they had them. Bond and bond had them too. I suspect harvey norman and dick smith probably got them in too. I hadn't seen any advertising that indicated they had them until today though

Picked up a 16GB black 4S today from Telecom. No more having to deal with Vodafone, yay! :)

So after a few days with my iPhone:

The screen has a warm hue, I wouldn't call it yellow, but it is definitely warmer than my iPod touch. My touch is extremely blue actually. I have noticed that it seems more yellowy under artificial lighting. I wonder if all the complaints by others are due to them living in caves or something? Skin tones seem perfect on my display.

Ringtones are dangerously addictive... sep I blew what was left in my iTunes balance on ring tones. But now I wake up each morning to a delightful tui chorus. How could I resist that one, when my user name is tui song!

I don't think I have any battery issues, but I am watching it every now and then just in case.

The screen is spoiling me! I have a thunderbolt display and was pretty impressed at the resolution of that, but now when I come back to using my desktop after the iPhone it's a bit "meh, I can see pixels" seriously how do people who have just average displays cope with the switching between devices?

Am loving the clarity on the iPhone too, I don't have to enlarge things as much on the iPhone to read them.

Siri understands me most of the time, but really I can't see myself using it much beyond party tricks. It's not like it actually returns anything useful. Dictation can return some funny results too, specially if you are using maori place names or non standard english words. It has made me a little more aware of my speech though, I tend to become eliza doolittle when I am speaking to my phone "The rain in spain falls mainly..."

I think all these people who are bitching and complaining about all the faults and how their phone isn't absolute perfection .. suck. Really? are they picky like this over other things or is it just apple products. Is there some kind of extra apple nerd bonus points that comes from owning the perfect apple device? Don't these idiots realise that they are the reason why the cost of apple products is so high?

I'm glad I cancelled my apple order and bought the phones over the weekend, has anyone who still has an apple order in received confirmation of shipping yet?

thats cool but did you get a plan with the 4s?

No. Bought it outright.

@TuiSong

My iPod touch 4 has a cooler temperature than my iPhone 4S. And my iPod touch 2nd has a purple tint to it compared to my iPhone 4S. I think I prefer the temperature on my 4S, it gives deeper blacks and more natural colours.

I believe there are some genuine problems some people are having, but for some they're just looking for something to bitch about.

This exactly. They read about it here and then go back and submit their phone to such tight scrutiny that they manage to convince themselves that they didn't get an absolutely perfect one.

I just thought to compare my touch and phone to the thunderbolt display, the iPhone is actually quite close to the tone of the display, while the touch just looks extremely technogadget purple/blue. The photos I've taken with the iPhone so far all look very natural on the screen and the colour is true to life so I am happy with it.

I've used the keyring app at a few places, pan n save self scan kiosk accepted it just fine, but the till at the end of shopping wouldn't scan the barcode. Fly buys barcode has worked fine at three places so far. I'm now on the hunt for a wallet style case for it so I can take a few cards with the phone, and load the rest of my loyalty cards onto the app. I did a count.. I have 38 cards in my current wallet. It's really hefty to hold on to! but I can guarantee that when I don't take it with me because it's too much to cart around, I will need one of the cards.

Have you looked at the Speck Candy Shell Card case?

Is your iPod touch a 4th gen? If it's the older gen it's hard not to notice the pixels when you've become used to the Retina!
