Just got delivery of both the 6 and the 6 Plus. I ordered both sizes just so I can compare sizes in my hands before deciding on which one to keep.

Today was the first time I've held a phablet.

The 6 Plus is by far the biggest phone I've ever held, and even though I see why it could attract Android users who are used to phablets (or iPhone users who just want a phablet), it's not for me. Pretty much its closer to the size of my iPad Mini than to my old iPhone (not that theres anything wrong with that)

I always try to minimize what I carry with me, so I just usually have my phone, credit card, DL, and my car key will be on a carabiner hooked onto my belt loop, thus the phablet will bother me too much.

At the end of the day, I think everyone will be happy with the one they choose, unless you had no idea how big it was really gonna be and now you regret it. Thats exactly why I got both sizes.

The 6 is perfect. Love the curved glass.

I love industrial design so I never get cases because that's what apple care is for right?

A concern for others (not me) is going to be the camera sticking out the back a little bit and how scratched up its going to get (if you don't use a case)

I use a Nikon SLR for proper pictures and my camera phone is just for messing around, so it's not a deal breaker if the camera gets messed up.

I read someone say there's going to be an issue with screen protectors, and I can see that, but again, I won't have to deal with that thanks to apple care ;)

Overall, I really can't see how anyone could complain about the new iPhone (both sizes)

If they are complaining, they didn't do their homework and had different expectations going forward, and everyone knows that only leads to disapointments.

Isn't the camera lens sapphire? Should be pretty hard wearing right?

May I ask why? I've been debating on whether to continue my tradition of black/space grey like I did with the 4 and 5, or try something different this time with silver.

I'm doing the exact opposite. My last couple of iPhones have been white, with my 5s being white/silver. This time around I ordered a space gray.

Just had my 6+ delivered from UPS! First impressions: I dig it. Went back to my iPhone 5 after only 10 mins. of using my 6+ and it felt like a puny little hobbit phone.

Agreed, but I'm sure they'll fix that soon. Plus it's much better than the cropped apps going from 4 to 5.

Yeah it is a lot better. Those cropped apps bothered me all the time!

One thing I noticed is with the 2 pane apps Apple put on the Plus it feels more like a smaller iPad then a bigger iPhone.

Running with apple watch

Tim Cook did mention in his first interview that people will run with out having to bring their iPhone. He stated because you can store music directly on the Apple Watch. I would take this to assume that their goal is to be able to run without your phone while tracking movement, time, etc. Thats what i'm waiting to see also.

Just got back from the Apple Store.

Not buying yet, but I was able to play with both phones. The Plus fit into my pocket very comfortably, but I'm also male. The female Apple employee put the phone in her pocket, and it stuck out a solid 2".

Both phones are incredibly nice, and feel the most "expensive" of any iPhone since the original. I would be happy with either. The Plus would take an adjustment period, but I think I'd get used to it.

I'm waiting for the Apple Watch. I need confirmation that I can run using just that and have the run data sync up to the phone later, so I don't have to run with a phone strapped to my arm. If that's how it works, I'll get the Plus. Otherwise, the vanilla 6.

On a side note, it helps that my 5S absolutely screams on iOS 8. Seriously, my phone seems to be substantially faster, and I know this isn't normal based on what I've been reading here and elsewhere. IDK. It definitely "sold" me on waiting on the Apple Watch to put off upgrading my phone, though.

Edit - these phones feel much nicer in hand than the 4. The 4 is like a glass tinkertoy by comparison.

Since I never use a case, I always lay my phone facing up on whatever surface, and during the first month, I'm always extra careful when I'm putting the phone down. But I'm sure we all kinda treat them a little rougher as time goes on. So if the edge keeps getting banged on a hard surface, then it could be possible that over time the internals might get a little messed up. But I'm sure apple obviously does their homework on that stuff, so its a very minor thing.

To be honest, I was trying to look for something that "possibly" could be an issue.

But considering that its a sapphire lens, as you say it "should be pretty hard wearing"

It definitely won't be something that holds anyone back from purchasing the phone. And I'm sure the better quality in pictures justifies the camera positioning.

Overall, I can't say anything negative about either phone. If my post came out negative, I was only stating my own personal biases and preferences on the physical size.

Im setting it up now and i love. The size of the 6 is taking a bit to get used to. My right thumb will need to get stronger, bit all in all it's awesome.

Sounds good to me.

I will also be going caseless myself. Although I've got a skin on order to give a little scratch protection.

You have a valid point about the camera taking knocks that could give some internal wear over time when setting the phone down. Like you say though, hopefully Apple have accounted for this.

Random question in the keynote I saw video in 30 or 60 fps. I see no option (like I do the 120 or 240 fps)
Is it just automatic 60?

Before setting up the phone I thought the gold color looked too yellowish. Now that I look at it it looks fine. It looks different depending on the lighting. The bands on the back look like crap. I already knew this.

After setting up the phone and unlocking it for the first time, holy **** touch ID is so fast. I can't just check the time anymore by pressing the home button because it unlocks my phone that quickly. Touch ID was on of the features I was really looking forward to, and I wasn't disappointed.

I love the rounded edges. The 4.7 inch phone is the perfect size for me. I can comfortably use it with one hand. I thought it would be too small, but it's pretty much just right. Some apps look a little blurry, but it's not bad at all.

Ya, I might be doing that also. Any suggestions on good simple skins? Just because this was the first iPhone I bought outright. Every year since the original iPhone, my carrier (rogers) allowed me to pay the early upgrade fee and upgrade to the new iPhone after 1 year into my 3 year contract. Now they were trying to force me to enter a new contract (with a different plan) just to upgrade again, so I decided (or left with no choice) to keep my plan as is, and just buy the phone outright. Which makes me think I might keep this phone for more than one year now, which means I have to show it a more love than my previous iPhones.

I got 2 this morning. One black and white. I love everything so far. I'm a developer so the iOS is nothing new. But 1 thing I am getting from both phones pretty bad is way to much heat! Almost to the point it's hard to hold it.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Photos and First Impressions

Screen great, size takes some getting used to even on the six. It's very obviously having to scale some apps & some of these are more noticeable effected than others by this. Seems a louder phone than the 5S & has a very strong vibration. Think I prefer the design to that of the 5 by the basis of it being less square of a design. Using a case as wouldn't dare use this without. Other issue is the power button being on the side as I keep reaching for it on the top.

Here's the pic I posted on the 'What are you upgrading from?' thread, where I think I might win the award for biggest iPhone upgrade, going from a 3G to a 6. :)

Like lots of people, I don't like the antenna lines or the protruding camera. However… first impression of the phone (looking at the front) was a definite 'wow' from me. It's hard to ignore the appeal of a shiny new iPhone, and the rounded glass edges really do look great. I'm very happy with the size of the 6. And yes, it does feel 50 times faster than my old 3G!>>

What kind of case are you going to use with your 6? I hate using a huge ugly case because the phones are so beautiful. But I don't want to damage my 6. I'm probably getting an Otterbox for now.

The display and camera are unbelievable. This is certainly the best iPhone of all time.

iPhone 6

After using it the past 2 hours (iPhone 6, 64GB, Silver, "T-Mobile" version running AT&T), here are some observations:
  • The screen looks nice, and the viewing angles are better.
  • The leather case snaps on and does a good job of rendering moot the whole camera bump.
  • Losing true one-handed use will take getting used to. Reachability comes in handy but is kludgy. I wonder if this is where a gesture would come in handy. Perhaps instead of opening up search, pulling down should actually pull down the screen. Or maybe Apple can be convinced to release an iPhone 7 mini in 2 years with a 4.5" screen)
  • Touch ID seems to work a tad better.

----------

Nice updates and impressions, guys.

I am still deciding between a case or going naked (with AppleCare). Decisions, decisions. What are you guys doing?

Both. These are still slippery phones, and since the bigger size takes getting used to, the case helps maintain grip, even if it adds a little to the thickness. Also, it levels out the phone, now that the camera protrudes.

I can't help wondering if 4.5" would have been a better size, though. 4.7" is just too big for one-handed use, and Reachability helps, but isn't as intuitive. Sure, websites were starting to look small on the 5S, but this is quite a significant jump. I understand why Apple did it (it allowed them to keep the same 326 ppi process and scale up), but it does affect usability.
