So I don't have my phone yet. Still on the way. But I stopped by the Apple store to see them in person. Here were my thoughts:
The phones are light. Really light. As one reviewer wrote, even the plus, thought it weighs more than the 5S, it feels lighter. As others have mentioned on here as well, the rounded corners are nice in the hand, but the weight combined with the rounded corners makes them slippery. I can definitely see a lot of drops especially with the plus, especially when trying to use it with one hand.
On to size. The first phone I was able to pickup was the 6. And it looked and felt big. I thought It was the Plus at first. I did eventually find the plus and I played with multiple models because I wanted to see how the felt and check out the colors as well.
The plus at first was huge. But after a bit it did feel normal to look at. Will it fit in your pocket? If your a guy probably. Is it too big? Yes and no. It's not to big to look at or hold. The biggest and only drawback issue with it in my eyes was one handed use. You can use it with one hand but not fluidly if that makes sense. I could reach the top corner if I was closing my hands (bringing my finger to my thumb). And I could type with one hand, but not as fast. I found myself using the double tap to bring down the screen (on one model this function didn't work. Sometimes my hands get sweaty and the Touch ID doesn't read them). The problem with this is you have to do it a lot, I could see that getting annoying. It would have been faster and made more sense to have a dedicated button on the side that does pulls the screen down that you could hit with your finger, like the sleep/wake button. And single handedly at least, it doesn't feel stable. At some point you'll drop it. The 6 I could use with one hand. Was the plus so big I would switch to the 6? Well it's enough to make me consider it. But I'm not sure yet.
I do agree with others that they felt a little less than the 5s. No chrome edge, less weight. The screens look nice. The plus screen didn't look significantly sharper to me than the 6. It is, but what I'm trying to say is that, if you're paying a premium for it, you won't notice it that much.
The contrast ratio is great. The blacks are very black. There is almost no seem on the black one between the bezel and screen when it is black. I'm sure by the next version you won't be able to distinguish it at all. The plus is amazing for video and movies. Sooo nice. The other thing, and as I mentioned before I used multiple models (at least 4 of each), I noticed was the 6+ got warm, on a few different models.
I also checked out the colors. I ordered a Gold and Silver. The Gold was my pref going in. The problem with gold is if you look at pictures of it (from reviews and apple's site), the color varies so much. Sometimes it looks Rose colored, sometimes, copper or bronze, sometimes tan or beige, and sometimes it looks like the yellowish gold (I don't like it when it looks like this). And most of these shades look great. The problem is it looks like none of those shades in person. And they need to fix that.
The gold should look and feel like it does in pictures when you hold it. And it probably does look like that if you put on a table and step 5ft away from it. Or if someone is looking at you holding and using your iPhone. But not from a first person POV. It looks like a muddy silver. I do like the the white bands on it though. (in fairness natural light is probably the best place to look at it, as oppose to Apple store lighting). The Silver looked solid except the dark grey antenna lines. The black looked great. I went in Gold, Silver, Black and came out Black, Silver, Gold.
Just my thoughts.
