I have to say, my main concern is pocketability.

Really *want* to go 5.5, but my cardboard cutout is showing me just how unwieldy it will be when "on the go" since I don't usually have a bag or a jacket with large internal pocket.

Same problem for me. I just don't know if I can deal with that large of a phone all the time. Most of the time it would be awesome. But the sometimes it's not, may be the deal breaker for me and I go 4.7".

Yeah....
I'm thinking I may have no choice but to go 4.7"

But if I do that, I'm not sure I should even bother with an iPhone 6 as I don't know if I feel the 4.7 iP6 is enough of a change (hardware wise) from the iP5s (which has plummeting prices everywhere - so would be a steal)

Wondering if I can't go 5.5, if I should just go 5s for another year and wait for the NFC Pay thing to get really deployed, etc

I'm thinking the same. My wife, after seeing the iP6 immediately had me order the 5s for her upgrade from the 5. She didn't want a bigger phone but wanted a new one. She went from a 16GB 5. To the 32GB 5S in gold and is excited.

As a kid I grew up with an Atari Lynx, Nintendo Gameboy, or Sega Game Gear (along with my Sony Discman) in my pocket. Those were actual big "portable" electronics to carry in a pocket. As a young adult, small phones were the rage, ie. flip phones. I think a lot of people got used to really small devices including me. But compared to my boyhood electronics, the iPhone 6 Plus is small and SO thin for everything that it does and it offers a little bit more than the 6 (better battery life, that new widescreen menu, optical image stabilization).

Two dynamite phones. The larger has few xtra goodies if you have eryday use for them otherwise the smaller more practical for most. JMO

All fair points...

I just get into the mindset of:

Ok, I'm going to leave the house to run errands and i'm wearing a t-shirt and jeans....where is the 5.5" iPhone going to go?

...and my only answer due to its size is "in my hand". :-(

Not sure I can make that happen long term without getting annoyed.

I know everyone is different, but, to me, the difference between 6/6P is negligible save the smallest of small pockets/hands.

20mm taller; 10.8mm wider; .2mm thicker; alternatively

.787 inches taller; .425 inches wider; .008 inches thicker

Even besides tech, I've never had the experience where I truly felt like (or noticed) that if "this thing" was only 1 inch shorter, and 1/2 inch less wide, I would no longer be overburdened.

I never bought the 5 because it wasn't as confortable to hold as the 4S now this 6 is way to big... yes the smaller one. It would barely fit on my pockets, Apple should have keep the 5 size for the smaller 6. By the way I'm 5.9, not a giant but capable of reaching the cookie jar.

My 5" HTC One fits in my pocket no problem, can hardly feel it in there. The 6+ isn't too much bigger.

It's Bigger Than The Competition

Why did Apple build such a monstrous, clumsy iPhone 6+ ?

A whopping 11.8 mm taller and 3.2 mm wider, it's hard to imagine Jony Ive couldn't do any better than this hulking phone.

Both the LG + iPhone have 5.5" displays.

LG's designers make Jony look like a newbie in design. The sleek and beautiful G3 is proof of what can be made if you have a good design engineer.

Check out the dimensions:

158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1 mm -- iPhone 6 +
(6.22 x 3.06 x 0.28 in)

146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm -- LG G3
(5.76 x 2.94 x 0.35 in)

iPhone 6 Plus too big?

But the 6 Plus is much bigger than both HTC One models.

Standing is okay. Now sit and kneel. Enjoy.

This exactly. I got suckered by the allure of screen size and got a Note 3 at release. Two months of regret and I sold it. Made me fully appreciate the size of the iPhone.

I also learned that an extra few inches of screen doesn't really matter. If I want a bigger screen, what I really want is an iPad / laptop.

I rarely carry it in my pants pocket, but if I did, no way would I get some kind of beast like this. For pants pocket travel I would want something smaller than the iPhone 5.

Anything other than pants, I don't think it matters at all does it?

Not sure I agree.
iPhone 5/5s/5c works wonderfully in a pants pocket.

HUGE leap from 5/5s/5c size to 6+ sizing

Too big to carry around on a daily basis. It would probably be horrible trying to lug around at the gym, much less while trying to go for a run. No thanks.

The iPhone 6+ is a monster.

Much bigger than any other phone with a 5.5" display.

146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm HTC One

I cut out one of those paper templates and it fit in my pocket just fine.

Same here and that was wearing CK jeans sz 31 relaxed fit which are still slightly more on the tight side than most jeans. And then tried it with Adidas workout pants which definitely don't have deep pockets, both were fine.

It's pretty gigantic, but I'm getting one anyway. Loving the iPad-like interface in certain apps and having landscape on the home screen now, as well as the inclusion of OIS on the camera and better battery life over the 4.7" model.
