I think you hit most of the key points in this post. This mirrors what I have read here on a daily basis for the past 4 years.

I've been here for over 10 years and it's pretty much consistent as described. Why I come back is there is a pocket of seemingly objective people who can both praise and pan Apple when they are getting something very right or very wrong. I personally get little out of posts by the "Apple is always right"... or "always wrong" crowds. But those who can sit more toward the middle tend to offer some good thoughts and helpful tips IMO. I often wish I could easily screen the rest out. BUT...

...that written: there is some humor to be enjoyed by the extremists who think Apple is God or Apple is the Devil. Some of those kinds of posts are good for a big laugh (for me anyway). Brand loyalty or brand bashing times 10... historical facts or irrefutable evidence countering such posts be d*mned... or just twist the topic when the evidence is too strong: "but who makes the most profit..." or "$1XX million in the bank says <i'm right>" and so on. And I love the surveyors or statistics masters always at the ready with a "99.9%" stat probably sampled from only themselves or maybe them and a few of their friends just like them. All but .1% of the global market seems to want everything exactly as Apple chooses to roll it out. Why should any other competitor even bother?

you and the person you quoted are simply cynics. that's the end of story. you hear what you want to hear. claiming that the minority of clueless folks who don't know what they want are the majority is not only wrong, it's incredibly tired and boring. moreso than those you're complaining about.

Would it be better if I thought more like you?

Very much looking forward to the increase as well. Hopefully the optimization goals for ios9 will work well enough that 2GB is sufficient for at least another iteration.

Correct staple, I think it probably will work well enough. iOS has a history of being more optimized than other platforms, but lately it has faltered. Apple usually takes software pretty seriously, and it's probably embarrassing for them that many Apple proponents (and major fanboys like Gruber) in the media have been calling them out on it. These engineers and developers take a lot of pride in their work. If the rumors are true then these guys are going to make it right. You can only push forward with innovations for so long before you need to do some cleanup. I hope they completely rewrite from scratch how Safari handles tabs because it's atrocious. I wouldn't mind them skipping new features altogether if they just made everything run amazingly well. My list of must-have features for iOS 9 is rather short.

Yeah, yeah, sling the negative tags. Why didn't you just sling "troll" too? Speaking for myself, I'll argue very favorably for Apple when they are doing things that make sense to me. But I won't argue very favorably for Apple no matter what they are doing. I was one arguing for 1080p :apple:TV when "720p was good enough" and I found fault with iPad 1 for leaving out that iSight camera for an otherwise do-everything mobile device that didn't come with a $2K/yr cellular hook. And I found fault with 3.5" being the one and only "perfect" phone screen size when people come in many different sizes and there was obviously a big, ever-growing market for phones with bigger screens.

But, when Apple finally got around to a 1080p :apple:TV and a "complete" iPad and bigger-screen iPhones, I sung the praises. My view for what I viewed as "better" didn't "evolve with the times". It remained consistent while Apple didn't hit the target and then when they did. Does that make me an Apple "cynic" or just someone who can recognize what should be included before Apple decides to include and not posting gushing praise for some products BEFORE Apple gets around to including it? iSheep I am not. I can certainly appreciate what Apple does so well (and I own plenty of Apple stuff) but I can similarly find fault when Apple holds back or doesn't quite hit the home run until the next version or two.

There's plenty that would rally to spin iPoop as "must own" if Apple rolled out iPoop. I wouldn't. But then again, as crazy as the iCar rumor can seem, I can certainly get very excited about Apple trying to go that way. It seems a "cynic" as you tried to tag me would be relatively consistent in always finding fault. That's not me but I will call a spade a spade.

Might have 2GB of RAM? It better had. It is outrageous the last generation didn't. For anyone who thinks it doesn't matter, just try using an iPad Air 2. It is so nice not having to fear apps will quit the moment you leave them.

apple SIM

hi

the actual apple SIM is actually a physical SIM.
the 1st time it was used however, very few international carriers were on board. (one in the UK only).
but we can expect that more and more carriers to be in place for more and more countries with each generation of the apple SIM.

apple has programmed it so that you can just remove the apple SIM and put in your own SIM of choice if you want, for any carrier. they are not limiting your ability to choose any carrier.

different but related topic: several years ago (4?) apple negotiated with carriers to allow it to build into the iPhone a virtual SIM. but no carrier supported the concept. virtual SIM would mean that apple can add carriers via software updates and new carrier plans could be more automatically chosen. but not likely for a few more years probably....

YES to Apple Sim
How is apple sim different than other sims? Why do we even have sims?

It would be nice that every phone has an embedded sim and we can port numbers, carriers without the hassle. Is it something which the ATT and other big folks mandate (instead of technical requirements).

I hated when moto razor chargers were different for different carriers (and had to pay $30+). If I remember vaguely, I could not change the phone from Verizon to ATT. I ended up selling the old phone and buying new phones and two charges per phone (car and a spare wall charger). A few people at work who were on Sprint or T-Mobil could charge their razor phones with mini-USB but not all.

I would trust Apple over these carriers to do the right thing.

So in the UK if you are happy with your existing plan, and you buy an iPhone sim free, can you transfer your account over, or do my you need to get a new SIM as the.Pole one won't work?

Anyone? How will this work in the UK, or do one of the UK carriers support it? I'm on EE at the moment and if I buy an iPhone would just swap the contract over to it, I would buy the phone sim free from Apple.

if you buy the phone with an apple SIM, because you are on EE, you can either just leave in the apple SIM and it will use your current plan, or, you can pop in yr current EE issued SIM. either one is ok.

Hard to imagine the regulatory Bolsheviks of the EEC allowing an unswapable pre-installed SIM.

Apple will put 2GB RAM into the iPhone 6S. People will still come on here and b***h and complain that it isn't 4GB. It'll never end.

It's about damn time! Apple should just sell the iphone unlocked with apple sim just like the iPads and get those greedy carriers off my iphone. 2gb of ram is also welcomed. :)

If the "killer feature" is going to be 2gb of RAM, why not just buy a high-end Android with 3gb?

Samsung is bringing some really capable camera on the S6, which in preliminary reviews seems to better the iPhone 6 -- better lens, OIS and better WB. Apple needs to come up with a bit more than this....

I can see the upgrade to the RAM on the 6s. It goes without saying that it is a welcome update. However, I don't think that there will be :apple: SIM for iPhone (at least in the United States). If we backtrack to late September/ early October of 2014, Greg Joswiak stated that Apple had no plans to add :apple: SIM to iPhone mainly because of the fact that it would be awkward to walk into a Verizon Store and buying an iPhone with :apple: SIM and asking to be activated on AT&T.

Way overdue

It's absolutely embarrassing that the 6 doesn't have 2GB already.

Really? The premier flagship phone from the premier flagship phone manufacturer can't handle an app switch? in 2015?

Thanks, I was asking because my current Nexus 5 uses the slightly bigger sim so it would save having to wait for a new sim to be delivered.

The Apple iPhone 6S better step it up in design and looks! As it is; it looks terrible on the back side with the antenna lines and you have to compete with the Galaxy S6 with its solid glass color back.

They should ditch that stupid fiddly bloody nano sim crap and replace it with an embedded chip that can access any network worldwide.

2GB isn't a feature, it's a necessity. And if it has 2 but it really needs 4, people will be right to complain.

You can't use your current EE plan with the Apple SIM as they different plans for the Apple SIM.

My Xperia Z3 has 3GB of RAM but i never end up using all 3GB even with a lot of tabs open. Not that having too much ram is bad or anything.

It should be a welcome addition to the iPhone 6s, even though the original iPhone 6 should of had 2GB of ram from the start. But this is Apple that we're talking about.

What is so annoying is the stupid 16GB storage. 32GB should be the standard by now for the iPhone. Its 2015.
