Hi, It's just now that Apple has actually responded to my request to a replacement and they told me that cosmetic damages is not covered by apple care warranty.
So that's it? I will just have to deal with my deteriorating phone? How could this possibly be avoided and how is this my fault? I am really disappointed.
Hi there! I can feel your disappointment and maybe anger. Thats what they've told me too. And to answer your question, yes. We have to deal with our deteriotating phone, and theres no way to prevent or avoid it. Even with a new case it still persists. Its like our phone is bound to deteriorate over time. Its not your fault, if you continue talking to them, they will blame it on the cases that we use.

hi may i know how did you contact apple regarding this issue ? I am also facing this problem now , just that i have even more paint peeling of even on the back of the phone. Unlike you , I have had my phone for about half a year. Initially , small paint came off at the sides and I could still tolerate it , but as time went , until now, the problem just keeps getting worse. I am really annoyed and upset with the phone and would hope to get a replacement ( im also in SG ) . May I know how to go about approaching this problem ?

[ My phone was in a case since day 1 as well , I even thought it might be my case's problem and changed 4 casings but the problem doesnt get better ]
Dont bother contacting them. You will just waste your time. They will tell you that they cant and wont replace it because its a cosmetic damage and its not covered by their warranty.

I called Apple 3 days back and the person told me that he would get back to me but no response yet. I'd be really upset if my phone wouldn't be replaced because it's definitely not our fault that the phone is damaging itself . If Apple doesn't want to do anything about it , it just proves that the quality of their phone is that bad and they do not want to do anything about that. It just shows that they aren't gonna take care of their customers' feedbacks & issues.

Very disappointing , Apple . Good job .

just an update.
My phone is literally peeling itself slowly. i can feel it now, unlike the other month that it is only wormlike and cant be felt by hands.

IS THIS HAPPENING ON THE IPHONE 6S ONLY? AND ROSE GOLD?
OR IS IT ALSO AFFECTING THE IPHONE 6 GOLD / SILVER / SG ?
[doublepost=1466514750][/doublepost]This really bothers me. because I am not really that rich to easily replace a P30,000 (about $650) phone. I bought an Iphone6s because of its features and to jump from an iphone 4s. that took me alot of savings.
Can't we all make an email to apple so our concern gets noticed. because it seems they are just not concerned that users have this type of problem.

Backread bro. My 6s is Space Gray and it's peeling so bad. I'm thinking of that too, on how we can get the attention of apple. Because those Senior Advisors can't do anything. All they can offer is a replacement - for a fee of course.

Having the same problem !!!!

Only 1 month old iPhone 6S Plus
Too bad. It will get worse, mine started only with one small peel. And now you can see peels everywhere. Very poor quality.

This is definitely a defect and Im happy that Apple had it replaced for you alleggerita! Mine already had the exact same thing on the top right corner in between the white screen and the aluminum edge when I first took it out of its box. I didn't bother to have it replaced because at first it was so tiny, almost microscopic in my perspective and I know its ridiculous but I thought that it wouldn't hurt to leave it there thinking that its something like a birthmark... And yesterday-much to my surprise and dissapointment I noticed that the alluminum chipping got bigger with a visible hairline-looking scratch extended out of it after I took it out of my silicone case (I kept it on a silicone case since day one too).

I'm from the PH and 2 mos ago, I experienced the infamous Steingate issue on my rMBP early 2015 and it took me and my brother 3 full weeks of multiple calls and escalations just to convince apple to get it fixed when in the first world countries, they take care of it in a jiffy so I DOUBT APPLE will take care of this issue from where I live.

Btw, to those who are saying that alleggerita's the only one who had this issue, behold the words of the people who have posted in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7347927?tstart=0

Around $400 for the replacement fee, that's totally unacceptable.

More and more people are showing up with the exact same issue. I hope we get the attention of Apple.

I'm using a protective case since day 1. I even tried to use this phone w/o any case for 1-2 weeks but those corrosions still magically appears. The senior advisor who is handling my case told me that their back-end team evaluated this issue and they are blaming it on cases that we use. A friend of mine also has this issue, she uses Apple protective case but corrosions and chipping still appears! So, can they blame their own product that causes problem to their phones?!
I'm losing my patience here. They cant, and wont admit that they have some poorly manufactured iPhone 6s! You know what they offered me? They will replace the phone for half of the original price, and then what? The replacement phone will have the same issue just like the TS? NO THANKS! F*ck them. They care only for money. I want to throw this phone on their faces.
[doublepost=1465890738][/doublepost]
Sorry to hear that. So they really wont replace "some" of their poorly manufactured products. I wasted my time contacting them. The senior advisor even told me not to worry. A big LOL

Same problem here with iPhone 6s Space Gray. I'm from Philippines. A Senior Advisor is already taking care of this issue, but it's almost a month now and I still don't have a clear update on what to expect from them. Upon reading this thread, I'm a bit glad that It's not only me who has this problem. My phone is getting worse everyday, those corrosion and chipping(or whatever they call that) at the side is very unusual, it's like they're magically appearing. I've been taking very good care of this phone.

I understand you. The corrosions are magically appearing. I brought mine to one of the apple service centre in singapore last year and the guy there dismissed it as cosmetic damages as well. I have been in contact with 2 Apple Product Specialist through Apple support (since 16 May 2016) and both are slow in their reply/rarely reply emails. Promised to call but 5 out of 7 promised times were not fulfilled.
Apple mentioned that they understand that i am upset over this issue but there is nothing they can do about if their engineering team says it is cosmetic damage. they also tried to tell me how it is the casing problem, the weather/surrounding/atmosphere problem, everything but Apple's problem. I will still follow up on the issue until I get a satisfactory response.

Nothing will amaze me more than no matter how many times a known issue is brought to an apple employee and they we say it never existed. Meanwhile there are countless people facing similar issues all over the world. They must hate when a somewhat learned consumer walks in their doors.

Any ideas on how to get Apples' attention, folks? Create a blog post or a video and make it viral perhaps? 'Cuz these phone's sure ain't cheap. We all should get what we've paid for. We deserve a phone with excellent quality both software and hardware and not a zombie-ugly looking phone only after several months of delicate usage.

hI GLENNASEA, I am also from the philippines and would like to ask for your advice. their team actually insisted that this was not cover from the warranty.

I bought a 6s on release. Over time, more and more chips have been appearing. Despite not using a case, I treat my phone very well: I don't place it on hard surfaces, I don't drop it, I don't put it in a pocket with anything else (like keys, coins, etc).

I've owned several other aluminium Apple products (iPad 1, Macbook Air 2013, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro) and none of them have gotten a mark on them (I used them all without a case).

Sadly, unless an angry mob of people enough to shake the media complains about this. Apple wouldn't make a move to circumvent this issue. We were only able to convince Apple to fix the screen of my rMBP because they already started addressing the issue abroad... And still, it took us 3 solid weeks to get a favorable nod from their technicians.

I guess one of the things that we can do right now is to encourage people who are having the same problem with their 6s's to speak up and hope that one of these days, Apple would learn that this could potentially drive away their loyal consumers from purchasing the iPhone7 (which I doubt) and finally offer a replacement. Baby steps, my friend. Baby steps.

Bendgate; Staingate; Chipgate... Yay! I wonder what kind of -gate are we going to get next with the iPhone7 and MacbookPro 2016... Isn't it exciting? Haha! Way to go :apple:! :D

Just when I thought Rose Golds are only affected. :'( I feel your pain... I sure hope you find a pretty case that suits your taste to temporary cover the "corrosions" soon...

comtacted apple again and apple has insisted that it is an enclosure ware issue and they can't replace it as it is not under Apple's warranty. They kept going on and on about how cases are at fault and there is nothing they can do about it. The apple specialist kept going on and on about not being able to do anything as the phone is perfectly fine except for the scratches/corrosion along the rims and bezel. All in all, apple is not doing anything about it and they think it is not their fault. Engineering team (team that makes that iphones apparently) classified it as cosmetic damages and they have the last say. Completely pushed the blame to the phone case and chemicals used by the phone case that caused the blemishes and Apple is not at fault. My phone is also experiencing a small flaking of the rose gold paint so the guy advised me to wait it out and if more flaking happens then they can get the engineering team to look at it again. So basically they can't do anything about the aluminium chippings/corrosion/scratches/blemishes

My iPhone is a 6s space grey, bought in december last year and corrosions/chipping started around january. didnt give much thought to it for the first week because it was kinda minor.. but then it got worse so brought it to Alab SG, where i only got a number to call.. quite disappointing but anyway still called the number, explained the situation, sent photos of evidence and manage to get replacement approval!! I'm quite pleased with overall experience, very smooth and fast. maybe it depends on your luck.. calling them personally instead of going to the store was definitely easier

After getting my first space grey 6S plus replaced for a problem with the screen, I experienced this chipping problem on the second one. I have no photos, but it looked somewhat like the mmmaco's one, but with less chipping on the back.

I contacted Apple via their website chat, and I explained the problem in detail. They told me to send it in for their technicians team to examine it. After a little more than a week, I had a shiny, factory new (produced at the end of may) iPhone 6S plus.
I'm very sorry to hear that many of you didn't have the same experience I had, but my advice, to the ones that haven't contacted Apple yet, is to speak with them, there's a chance they will exchange your iPhone for free.

That looks terrible. Any chance to get a replacement?

P.S.: I just remember the "iPhone Snob #1" who denied the existance of this problem... I wonder what would he say in this (same) thread with 524 posts?
