send a bug report to apple for the third time. hopefully we'll see 10.0.3 with a fix soon. seems like many UI things on the iPhone 7 are not as correct/smooth as on the older iPhones.

does anyones elses status bar disappear for a second after you kill an app and go back to the home screen?

Starting to think the graphics driver isn't optimized or has some sort of bug. I'm noticing reduced performance in Tweetbot too.

The phone as a whole feels like a speed demon but animations aren't smooth.

I think this animation issue is intentional and specific for the iPhone 7 because of the implementation of the new home button. There are two issues we see here:

(1) sluggish app closing animation

(2) closing animation starts for a few milliseconds when user attempts to double click the home button to go to the app switcher.

For (2) I think the issue here is that the phone for a few milliseconds registered your first press as an attempt to close an app. But once it registers the second press which followed very shortly it then quickly launched the app switcher animation.

And as for (1) I think this is intertwined with (2) the weird sluggish app closing animation tends to happen more only when you press the home button once and leave your finger touching the home button still. It tends NOT to happen when you quickly lift your finger from the home button once you press the home button. This is because when you still leave you finger touching the home button, the phone is preparing for two possible scenarios. (A) user intends to click the home button again to launch the app switcher (B) user simply just leaves the finger on the home button hence really wishing to close the app.

So guys. I think this is intentional. But surely there's a way to further smoothen the animations. Right?

the closing animation bug is still there, even when i lift my finger after pressing the home button once. for the 2. point you're right.

The animation stutter when closing apps is present regardless of how long I leave my thumb on the home button. Lift it quickly or let it sit on the button, the animation is the same.

I noticed the same with Tweetbot. I filed a report and they replied that they are checking into it.

Why doesn't it seem like the iPhone 7 just hasn't lots of issues? Cellular quirkiness, animation stuttering not present on older devices, audible CPU coil nose in videos/phone calls, Bluetooth connectivity issues I've heard of, problems with lightning headphones/adapter... etc etc?? I have one on the way and I hope it doesn't give me tons of fits :(

This happens pretty much every time we get a new iPhone.

I don't remember anything with the iPhone 6s or 6 though, I remember the 5s had awful respringing (as did all other 7.0.x devices).

I guess now that I think of it I remember lots of crap with "purple glare" with the camera on the iPhone 5 as well as battery issues and scuffs. iPhones 6 had shifting FaceTime camera and clicky corners. I don't remember anything with the 6s. Perhaps laggy 3D Touch on the Plus? Hmm.

I guess what I was getting at was I don't recall seeing this many newest-iPhone-specific *software* issues before.

This annoying bug is making me not like my new iPhone 7 Plus my 6S Plus was miles faster this is like years behind with the speed of animation
[doublepost=1475254907][/doublepost]what I can't believe is such a big problem can't be fixed with an update so quick, 10.1 should have fixed it even as beta 1, a brand new powerful phone that runs slower than older one, crazy, I bet even iOS 10.1 beta 2 won't help

Just got my 7+ and it has the app close stutter as well as the double click stutter for multitasking.

It HAS to be a software problem or else wouldn't it stutter when hitting home from the lockscreen too? Also, why does it work right if you close the app before it had a chance to open?

By the way. If you set the double click speed to Slow, the weirdness with the app switcher animation disappears.

I'm really hoping this isn't because of the 3D touch home button and I hope it can be solved in an update at some point because this is SLOPPY.

I've never liked that hokey zooming effect anyway. It doesn't do anything but cause a distraction. I always have my phone set to 'reduce motion' anyway. Can't believe anyone cares about this eye candy.

I do care about it.

Apple please fix it. Already did some bugreports on that. Gives me hope, that im not alone with this annoying problem. if this is fixed, my 7+ just has to stop hissing o_O. Then it would be nearly perfect.
plz excuse my bad english, im from germany
have a nice weekend

Du brauchst dich nicht für dein Englisch entschuldigen! Passt doch. Absolut einwandfrei ;)

I do do care about! Per default, the animations are enabled. In the AppleStore, the animations are enabled.
So the first thing you notice playing around with a new phone is stuttery animations... That has to be Prio1 at Apple!
I really hope it is just some kind of unoptimized driver and nothing "more" - like a problem with the A10 Fusion and it's "low power" cores....

I doubt it's because of the low power cores. Everything else is smooth, it's just the home button presses that are different.

I had an idea though. I noticed that the response time of the home button is sped up from the previous iPhones. Perhaps it's a timing issue. Since the home button is software controlled on the iPhone 7, they may have to either delay it artificially or start the background animation sooner.

I noticed something else too. When you double click the home button, it starts to close the app, but then realizes you double clicked and opens the task switcher.

This makes me think that the phone is just responding to your clicks too fast and then acts as if you've interrupted it.

Good news guys! It has nothing to do with the solid state home button. It's not a hardware limitation. It's completely software based. How do I know, you ask?

I enabled assistive touch and the effect is exactly the same as using the solid state home button.

It must be because the phone is simply too fast and Apple needs to adjust when the animations start and finish.

I think ios 10.1 will fix this bug. Hope for a release soon...

Ein Gleichgesinnter ;) Danke für dein Lob! Deins ist auch sehr gut :)!

It's so annoying that i dont even hand it to my friends. "oh thats the new iPhone?" -- "yes, its the fastest phone ever, but it can't even close apps smoothly"

It's really strange. For me it seems to be app specific. When I close facebook or Tweetbot it does not stutter.
