Just looked at the part numbers used by Apple and what the other retailer are using and they are exactly the same as Apple, so hardware wise they are the same anything around "this will lock on the first use" is BS and even if it isn't is only ~£10 to remove a lock, so dont worry about it... :)

Apple iPhone 7 Plus 256Gb - Black

Direct Apple Part Number:
Part number: MN4W2B/A

Very.co.uk
MPN: MN4W2B/A
EAN: 190198045348

Argos:
EAN: 190198045348

Yay. Just managed to order 2 X 7s at Watford store for release day. I have been allocated a pick up time. So does this mean I can just turn up then or do I have to queue for hours beforehand?

Still no movement on Jet Black Plus models

I agree people shouldn't get too hung up over it however it clearly isn't BS as multiple people have confirmed that previous iPhones from CPW and other retailers do indeed lock to the first SIM. I assume it's related to IMEI ranges allocated to each retailer.

All the iPhones are the same, there isn't separate locked and unlocked stock. Instead Apple maintain a database of the lock status of each phone, when the phone is activated it then checks the lock status with Apple and will lock or not lock depending on what Apple says. So the unlocked phones direct from Apple will say keep it unlocked, the phones issued to CPW are recorded as contract phones that should be locked and so get locked to the first sim. John Lewis phones are recorded as unlocked so won't lock, and same probably applies to Argos and Very. CPW have just been sneaky in the past selling phones sim-free which are not unlocked which creates the confusion every year on here.

With some of the Jet black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus i do expect some of them to be on launch day (or a little earlier) as i've just been on the apple store and the jet black iPhone 7 has 3 - 4 Weeks while the iPhone 7 Plus has November

Cancelled my very order... Feel better now :) will take the silver one from Apple on Friday and probably cancel the black one from Apple, currently scheduled for early October, unless the date changes.
Were you able to cancel your Very order successfully? I'm having an issue, where I have got to wait until they confirm my cancellation, my email says I shouldn't be expecting the phone until October so surely it should be a straight forward cancel, there customer service is terrible, I wouldn't recommend Very to anyone. Made a bit of a mistake here to be honest, wish I just went with Apple!

It said something about 'can't guarantee...' But I can refuse the delivery.

There will be two queues. One for reservations and one for walk ins. Apple staff will direct you to reservation queue if you ask. I would turn up 10 -15 mins before hand and you be in and out fairly quickly. It is not like it was in years gone by where you had to queue for 6-8 hours hoping to get an iPhone in the colour and size you wanted.

Thanks. Was hoping that would be the case.

It's not based on part number. It's based on the IMEI number.

Apple have the ranges of ones allocated to a network (O2, etc) and ones that are retailers. The network Ones are set to lock to that network. Some of The retailer ones are set to lock to the network of the first sim they put in, mainly due to to them being sold as PAYG, but some are also sim only truly unlocked and the retailers tend to mix the stock up, depending on demand. I know Argos do this. That's why some are locked from them and some aren't.

There's not going to be walk-ins this year.

That's pretty crap though isn't it! So you are sold what you believe to be an unclocked phone, stick in your O2 sim and bang it's locked to them. You then have to pay O2 to unlock a phone which they didn't even provide.

That's my local store. Says nothing is available- no 7 or 7s phones at all.

Sorry - can someone clarify (lost the plot in this thread)

If I reserve for pickup do I pay via ApplePay on my phone or purely reserve it and pay in store?

Reason I ask is that I use a card I only have stored in ApplePay- the actual physical credit card is 200miles away at my folks house.

You pay when you pick it up.
