So I spoke to someone at the Covent Garden store business team to confirm and initially they were under the impression that iPhone Upgrade Programme reservations were only for that. I mentioned that I'd seen words to the effect of the below so he put me on hold to check. Came back and said actually, the terms of the reservation is for a phone, so paying in full on the day is fine. Wooh!

Obviously given the aforementioned it's understandable some staff may be misinformed!

Some clarification regarding the iPhone Upgrade Programme reservations and being able to switch to paying in full up front.

The FAQ you get once a reservation is made reads:

Additionally I called Apple and here is a transcript of the response:

...which all makes me very happy!

I have been reading a few other blog posts and they state that shipping dates for the JB 256GB iPhones were Sep 26 - Oct 3 right from the get-go. Not sure if this is 100% true but considering the fact I haven't found anyone in the UK who has ordered the same iPhone as me and getting it delivered on launch day, it is making me believe there is some truth to it.
Actually I misread. I am 128GB but I belive the same is true for both.

Yup. I can confirm that my brother, who works at Covent Garden, says they've been told today that they're now doing this, after previously being told they weren't.

I'm thinking I might punt for a 128Gb matte Black plus after all. Off work next week, so trying my luck on daily reservations at all stores I can get to.

I've just noticed that they've changed the buttons on the Apple leather cases, wonder why they've done this?

....yea, they almost look metallic here:

Personally, I like the change!

The upgrade programme can only be done in store. If you pay full price and get it delivered to your home you'd have to take it back to the store return it and then purchase the phone on the upgrade programme. The plan guarantees you a new phone every year provided that you pay your monthly instalments and trade in your iPhone after one year/pay of the balance. However you are not guaranteed of getting the phone you want every year on launch day. Many from the US were not able to reserve the phone they wanted on the upgrade programme for launch day.

Well, then I just pay outright. Not having a phone guaranteed on release day is a deal breaker. Don't mind paying outright.

I don't understand why people think that the Upgrade Programme is some method of getting guaranteed launch day delivery.

You can't guarantee launch day delivery, ever, on anything, unless you're some sort of insider.

If throwing a bunch of money upfront isn't enough to guarantee launch day delivery, I don't see how £40/month would be.

So I've been following this thread for a few days, thought I'd add my experience.
Ordered a 7Plus 128GB black
I ordered through my carrier (Three) as an upgrade, finished the upgrade at about 9.30am on the day, can't even get a closer estimate to delivery than "by the 30th" But the three website is still showing delivery for orders placed as 22nd-23rd september so *shrugs*

Can we talk about insurance for a bit?

Who currently covers your iPhone (and other devices)?
Are they any good?
Does anybody have any claim horror stories? (so I and others can avoid that company)

Thanks for any help you can offer

Has anyone in the UK had their orders move from "Processing Items" for the 7 Plus (black) I ordered literally as soon as the page came on and the estimated delivery is now 20-22nd. o_O Driving me insane having to keep checking!!!

As a little undocumented bonus for those here, if you're using the iPhone current stock checker, you can append ?store=RXXX (where XXX is your numeric store ID) to only view that store, or if you're waiting for a specific model, you can add ?only=Plus to view pluses, or ?only=Jet for jet blacks, or basically any part of the model name, and you can combine these, so to view only 128GB Plus models in Bath, you can use https://code.gladdy.uk/iphone/?store=R335&only=Plus+128GB

I know the massive table is a bit of a beast - especially on mobile, so this might help :)

Many thanks for this its brilliant. Is it possible to provide multiple store ids? I'm luck to live close to 3 stores, Lakeside, Bluewater and Bromley so it would be great if I could just display those 3 stores.

Thanks!

Thought I'd chime in.

Placed order at 8:03, Email confirmation received 8:05 on the 9th for 2 x iPhone 7 Plus Matte Black 128GB.

Order still in processing and expected delivery date between 27-29th. Delivery to Worcestershire.

I've ordered the same model and colour as you, (Im in south London) and I got confirmation at 8:03 but I've not had a bump yet!

Thought I would share my experience. I ordered the Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus 256GB. Got email confirmation at 8:04am and the email stated the iPhone delivers 26 Sept - 3 Oct. I live in Manchester BTW. My status still hasn't changed from processing. Wondering if anyone else also ordered the same and has had any changes to status?

I really don't think the 'delivery bumps' are based on where you live!!! My order confirmation email was received at 8:39am Friday morning, and my delivery date showed 26th-28th September. However, before the weekend was finished, the order now shows as 20th-22nd September even though it still shows as processing.

Isn't that just a credit check to make sure your debit account is valid?

The £2 charge is for the credit / security check. EE collect your monthly payment via DD approx 7 days after your bill is generated. You get your first bill approx 24 hours after EE set-up your new plan.

...ahh perfect, thanks for clarifying.

...ahh, cheers for that link, couldn't find the article.
:p

AppleCare+ or nothing in my humble opinion. Nearly every insurance provider I've seen gives you some crappy used unofficial refurb thing if you break your phone - and the ones who don't will take at least a week to get you a new phone.

I remember 2 years ago when ordering my iPhone 6 Plus through Verizon and a lot of us were able to request a "jump the line request" and get our phones on launch day. Anyone try that again this year with success?
