I find this behaviour infuriating - there's nothing radically different here about size or colours - it's very easy to walk into any number of shops in any town during the last two years to pick up a 6 or 6S and just decide right there & then.

Yes, Apple do offer a return policy, but I personally think it's taking the pish to order a selection with premeditated intent to likely take it back, particularly whilst leaning on the peer support of a forum full of people excited to receive their preorder & disappointed by the lead time & new pricing.

Returns mess up the stock system and add to the retail price of products for the rest of us who are able to make a straightforward decision on an everyday item. Adopting a child, choosing a pension or buying a house needs some thinking about, picking a sodding phone means looking at a website or walking to a shop tops.

spending on what is close to £1000 on a consumer electronics device is not something all can do lightly. Most people want to make an informed choice and fondling the phone for a few minutes in a busy store might not be enough time to make a choice. will it fit in my man bag? can i slide it into my skinny jeans? can I hold it in one hand to text while on the loo? all questions that can't be answered in store.

Apple have not had their arm twisted to over this returns policy, they do so to provide a greater level of customer service and experience. Every customer is entitled to take them up on this.

For people who've ordered Apple Products from places like John Lewis, how is the experience and customer service? My only worry is that if the device fails or has issues after the first year, they won't be as helpful.

My sisters phone had the infamous error 53 Touch ID issue despite being in great condition but Apple refused to help as the warranty was over and I had to convince EE to replace in under the Consumer Law Act.

On the other hand my dads iPhone 6 Plus bought direct from Apple suffered from the Touch disease issue early this year, again it was out of warranty. But as soon as I mentioned Consumer Law they replaced it instantly no questions asked.

If there was a hardware/manufacturing fault, would it be easy to have it replaced/repaired by JL after the 12 months within 24? Other personal experiences and online stories have me almost certain that Carphone Wharehouse and Currys PC World have terrible customer service, not sure about how John Lewis handles these things as I've never bought any electrical items from them.

If an iPhone breaks after a year, it breaks after a year. Buy AppleCare if that bothers you.

This is a total misapplication of the consumer law and you got goodwill replacements both times.

Just a heads up for anyone on EE who doesn't manage to get their Visual Transcript working, for Voicemails, on their new phones - apparently, EE do not support it so we're out of luck. :(

but with John Lewis specifically you do have the 2nd year in which Apple could tell you to sod off but JL would repair/replace at their discretion

Well the poster in question is very in decisive. Despite the fact that the plus and regular iPhone have both been available for two years. She's anxious about getting the plus because she doesn't know if she can live with the size. It would be better for her to actually experience the plus day to day and then decide if she wants to stick with it. I'm only advising the poster to use one at a time. Also someone ordering multiple rose gold models isn't going to hinder anyone who wants one of the blacks is it?

Noooooo that's a shame :( EE is the one network that actually supports all of the cool new features such as VoLTE and WiFi Calling

My guess is that it might be limited to the US at first, I do recall reading that somewhere a while ago during the betas.

What does "unlocked" mean on the availability page? :)

Very interesting!

This has only ever been the case in America before, and it's used to determined the difference between Carrier sales and unlocked sim free ones.

I would imagine in this case, it means they're saying stock is available for non-iPP sales, but it could mean sim free only (so you can't reserve for a new carrier contract in store) - i'll find out after lunch for sure!

Well done for noticing. I care don't include "UNLOCKED" as a valid available status in my timeline code, so might need to adjust :)

Edit: Indeed, if it says "UNLOCKED" that means the store will have stock, but not for iPP. I guess they're getting ready for Saturday's standard reservation unlock.

A bunch of new stock went live at lunchtime today too for a few stores. If you're at Liverpool One, Buchanan Street, Churchill Square, Highcross, Trinity Leeds, Trafford Centre, Victoria Square or Chapelfield and haven't reserved what you wanted yet, take a look :)

Yes but I've never seen ANY iPhone 7+ black (normal) 28GB/128GB ever since it came out

In my experience John Lewis is possibly the best place to buy anything in terms of customer care after purchase.

Anyone else's order "Preparing for dispatch" but NOT showing on their Apple Support Profile?

I've got two Black 128gb 7's due for delivery Friday.

does anyone think apple will start to dispatch the phones anytime today for the ones with 16th date?

If they break through no fault of the user, why should we have to pay? The EE diagnostics report showed no damage to the device and that the Touch ID sensor had failed. I'm sure you've read up on the Touch Disease issue and that it's a design flaw.

Misapplication would be asking for a free repair if damage is user inflicted.

Does yours squeak when squeezed? Mine squeaks... last one didn't.

I really like the look of those leather cases but they're just so unreasonably expensive for a phone case. Going caseless this year I think, also because I'll be on the IUP.

Maybe.

They have done in the past. They've also dispatched early but under instruction to couriers not to deliver before the release date. But sometimes they don't bother and they start arriving early.

Well if your delivery is the 16th, they'd have to dispatch your phone pretty soon wouldn't they. So tonight maybe, but most likely tomorrow.

Has anyone with Friday in store pickup went to preparing to dispatch or anything yet. I'm still on processing.
No. And I don't think we'll see "Preparing for Dispatch" either.

What I think we've done is essentially reserved a phone from the batch that the store will get. The phones are probably already at the stores. I think the next step we'll see is that it's ready for pickup.

I have a mint condition iphone 6, any idea where i can trade it in for money?

I had a pretty mint iPhone 6 64GB that I sent to MusicMagpie last week, they said i would get £240 for it so hopefully...
Related, im borrowing my dads iPhone 5, wow the difference not just in size but in speed, is amazing. It'll tide me over for a couple of weeks as im not expecting to get a 7+ between now and next friday...

Um no... the warranty is 2 years under UK/EU consumer law.

Luckily apple stores know all about this, and I've used it without issues also. They don't argue, and put "covered under local law" on the repair bill, which is zero'd.

All are completely unavailable. They probably ran out within seconds whenever the stock was updated.
