Watched it not long ago, I'm not sure how factually accurate it is but I quite enjoyed it!
Is that the Michael Fassbender one? The relationship with his daughter Lisa was interesting to watch. Woz kept going on about the Apple 2 team getting credit all through the movie lol

I've also seen the Ashton Kutcher one too.
My bank have royally screwed me over thanks to their fraud prevention. Struggling to get a card authorised for payment at the moment :(
I had the same issue. Are you with Halifax? Mine eventually got authorised just before 7 and the transaction is in my pending transactions. My order is still showing as processing items though. I hope i still get my launch day delivery.

How does a debit card work?

When paying by debit card, the money comes directly out of your bank account. It’s the same as withdrawing cash and handing it over – but safer because there’s a bit of fraud protection and the card is easy to cancel if it’s lost or stolen.

When you use your card in a cash machine or most shops you will be asked to type in your PIN code, unless you’re using contactless to pay.

Does that help?
But you aren't paying - it is a pre-authorisation to ensure available funds but they haven't got the money yet or taken it from your bank. Seriously, you are wrong and you haven't paid yet. Do a Google search for pre-authorisation if you must but it has already been explained several times.

If you track via the website (the app doesn't give you the full version as such) and click on that blue right arrow above "Cancel Items" it gives you a more detailed description.

It looks like it is very similar to it being delivered to a house, instead being shipped to the Apple Store. (Look at the middle three, they talk about it being shipped to the store and that you'll get a notification when it's ready.)

See image.
Yes that's what I think. You are just getting it shipped to the store instead of your house. So you still pay before hand and then pick it up at the store.

Just got off chat with Apple (a very long waiting period) and they said they can't change the address on my Watch order without it slipping the delivery date. Which eliminates the point, so I'll just have to deal with a failed launch day delivery and a re-delivery attempt the following Monday.

Meanwhile it's looking more and more like my iPhone won't arrive on launch day when I am actually present at the right address, so I'm going to have to hike back from Norwich / Uni campus to get it when it eventually decides to arrive before the 29th.

Yes. That's what I think. We finally nailed it I think!!

That's better IMO, I know we have to go and collect it but I'll have it in my hands by 0830 and I won't need to wait in all day at home!!

I think this year Apple are charging for store pickups so you commit to buy it.

Will probably get rid of the scalpers and also wasted reservations where someone reserves in store and then doesnt turn up so genuine buyers are not missing out.

Glad its like this because not many will abuse it only genuine buyers will reserve the phone they want

One last try ....

You go to a hotel, they 'authorise' your card for £50 in case you charge drinks or food to your room, or use the minbar. That doesn't mean they've taken £50 from your account.

They'll only take the money when you charge stuff to your room.

In this case, Apple have reserved £xxx in your account to make sure your card is good for it.

When Apple will only take you money when they dispatch your phone.

Have it whichever way you want, if you want to believe Apple have taken our money, and that makes you feel better, then so be it .... but they haven't until it's no longer 'pending' and has been deducted from your actual balance.

Have a nice night 8-/

I'm on a course so can't keep up with this entire thread. I usually pick up in store but had to opt for delivery due to my course over the next few weeks. Few questions for everyone

I ordered jet black 128gb 7 at 0812, delivery 26th sept-3rd October. Anyone else in the same boat?

Also, what's it like for getting improved shipping nearer launch? Never ordered for delivery before, just collected on launch day

So why on my online banking does it have an authorisation number next to it?
the same as other purchases from shops "today" which have an authorisation number in the same format?

Just got off the phone with John Lewis card services. My payment for the phone is not showing up...

I am devastated....

I haven't been following this "conversation" between the two of you, but, you're right. Apple does a check on your account and only takes the money once the phone has shipped.

Any chance we could stop arguing about pending card payments (I'd trust the guy who spent 23 years working for a credit card agency FWIW) and look forward to changing order status'?

Lol, well I trust the government website which proves the fact to be honest, but each to their own

Every authorisation has a reference number - otherwise how else would you or they 'refer' to it if required?

And yes, let's drop this now and look forward to our new phones, whenever the feck they arrive!

No. I pay in-Store on the day. That's what the guy said today and that's what's happened the past two years.

My bank balance is still the same... I'll keep an eye on it.
Why would your bank balance change at all if you used reserve link?

It sucks, but people are misdirecting their anger at Apple (I'm not implying you are!).

Apple are profiteering.

I'm no apologist for the Brexit movement, far from it. But,.. the price increases are more than exchange rate based. They're creaming the market.
[doublepost=1473450974][/doublepost]
The b*ttf*** is only partially apples doing. Most of the blame lies with Brexit causing a weak £.

I agree in part. Although I believe most of the price increase is pure business. Apple knows full well the UK is their biggest market in (or soon to be out of) Europe, so with high demand comes HIGH prices.

Ok last post on this because it's not fair on others
So your saying the shop from today which again is in the same format as the apple transaction has not taken my money?

Lol, well I trust the government website which proves the fact to be honest, but each to their own

From the Apple website

When Apple charges your account
When you place an order, Apple contacts the bank that issued your credit or debit card to confirm that it's a valid account, and requests a pre-authorization (which holds the funds for the full or partial purchase amount). While your order is being processed, the funds pre-authorized by the bank will be unavailable and may display as "pending" on your card's online statement. Once your order is dispatched, your card is charged. If you cancel your order before your card is charged, however, pre-authorization amounts on your credit card account can take up to 30 days before you can use that credit again. Pre-authorization amounts on your debit card account can take up to 10 days. Contact your financial institution for more information and specific timeframes.
