Over the weekend well-known mobile phone leaker Evan Blass predicted that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus would release the week of September 12. A short time later, he predicted that it should launch on Friday, September 16. Today, Blass has followed up and reported that pre-orders would take place on Friday, September 9.

Apple typically announces the newest iPhone a couple days before pre-orders start. With September 5 being Labor Day, it's likely Tuesday, September 6 would be the day of Apple's iPhone 7 event. The dates roughly line up with Apple's usual pattern for iPhone releases. Last year, Apple announced the iPhone on September 9, started pre-orders on September 12 and released it on September 25.

Blass is well known for leaking details and images from Android smartphones well before official confirmations. A couple days before predicting the release week of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, he revealed that the codenames for Apple's new smartphones are "Sonora" and "Dos Palos."

This year's iPhone models are not expected to feature significant design changes aside from the loss of the headphone jack. Instead, Apple is said to be introducing major new features for the 10th anniversary iPhone 8. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 is expected to get an improved camera and optimal image stabilization while the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus may gain a dual-lens camera system and 3 GB of RAM.

Other rumored features for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus include a faster TSMC-made A10 processor, repositioned antenna bands, faster LTE and Wi-Fi, a slightly larger battery, and a minimum 32 GB of base storage.

The trouble with that "belief" is that there is no credible source for it to come from.

The supply chains in China simply don't know what Apple have in mind for October 2017. They have no reason to know, and Apple does not give them information that they don't need. Furthermore the story has been going around for 6 months. 20 months before the assumed release of a new device.

At that point, only Apple's inner circle in Cupertino would know what was happening and why. And they don't leak things that they don't want leaked.

So really, this story doesn't hold water.

So lets assume steve would of never changed the phone size. Would sales of the 3.5" phone stay as popular? The sales of the 6 skyrocketed because everybody wanted more screen size options. I think steve would of evolved and understood times are different and would of capitalized the same way with the size of the phone and different models (after all he was a business man). He also had a say in the size increase of the 4" phone so he understood the need for change if it brought in new sales growth. Now design wise is what i was really talking about and comparing the first gen iPhone to the current is the best comparison throughout the years (besides the plastic ones of course-3/3gs).

I don't think Steve Jobs would have ever liked the design of the iPhone 6 series and upcoming iPhone 7. Yeah screen size must have become important to keep with the big screen smartphones demand in market.

I'm too. If not for apps like Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase, Reason and NI Complete 10 Ultimate that I have invested in, I wouldn't even turn my Mac on. I can do so much already on my iPad Pro 12.9 and Steinberg ported Cubase (Cubasis) to iPad anyway. I just wish that the rest of my apps for Mac will make a transition to iOS soon.

Same here. I use my iPP 12.9 twohundred times a day. Sometimes I might need to use a laptop, and I use my wife's Macbook Air which is usually readily available. But it's a rare occurence. I haven't touched my MBP in two months at least.
The combination iPP 12.9 and iPhone 6S+ is incredible.

But the 6/6s is the closest design wise to the original iPhone. iPhone 4/4s & 5/5s are the complete opposite with their blocky design.

I wonder if Apple may surprise us as it did with the SE. Modest upgrade in performance, but particularly appealing because of the its modest purchase price. Will we see a similar performance?

Must be able to charge using my Apple Watch charger if you're going to convince me to buy the phone without a headphone jack. Improved water resistance is a major plus, too. If it can't be charged while I'm listening to music, I'll just upgrade from my 6 plus to a used 6S plus and wait until next gen. I'll bet they backpedal pretty damn fast if sales dive because of lack of headphone jack.

Why not say when the keynote will be first?

Is there going to be a keynote this time? I mean what can they say?

Spend 5 minutes going over the numbers where the 6s is this first phone that sold fewer units than the one before.

Then explain that they couldn't bring us an all new phone this time, so here's the rewarmed 6s mark 2. It's just like the 6 except we innovated away the headphone jack. That should eat up another 10 minutes most. So that leaves a 1 hour, 45 minutes of stunned silence.

I suppose they can work in a one more thing. "Oh yeah, we gimped your MacBook Pros even more so you may as well just give up buy an iPad pro now."

I really believe that Steve wanted only one iPhone size. With more and more different models you never can have a perfect product.

Me too think that the new iPhone of 2017 will be out in June.

Hi
I do think June because 1st gen was released on June 29, 2007 so I think it will be June 2017 for the 10th anniversary.
I have saved £30 as my 6 is due an upgrade this September - I can now upgrade May '17

My plan for the first time in a long time is to just buy a 6S when everyone starts dumping phones. Its cheaper, its a win win for me and the person selling, and the new phones just aren't that compelling for me personally.

The point is you really have no idea what Jobs would have liked or not liked. It's all conjecture as you have absolutely no evidence to support your argument. The fact that you don't like it, well that's something else entirely.

Did Apple do anything all that special for the 10th anniversary of the iPod, or any other product? I don't remember anything out of the ordinary. Why would they suddenly make a big deal out of the 10th anniversary of the iPhone?
