Uhm, so... Creaking got MUCH worse in a day and witohout any reason at all, so I decided to mess with the screws again.
While I was loosening one of them, screen made audible creak without any pressure applied by me or anything.
So, now I'm sitting here, trying to twist the phone (with screws noticeably loose) in my hand, and, well, nothing happens. No creaks, no clicks. What the...

Looks like my initial conclusion was totally wrong: screws DO apply enough tension to hold the phone together. Not only that but they basically apply too much tension.

Good idea, I will remove the 2 screws so that my phone wont click anymore. Goodbye "clickgate" :)

My daughter got her RG 128gb 7+ today. I checked it over. No creak/clicking at all. I didn't try to bend it in half, but I did give it a good real world use test. Based on the videos I have seen, this phone does not have it.

You're twisting it wrong.

You should complain to Apple that your daughter's 7 plus does not have the new feature that most people have :)

Goodbye also warranty and native water protection.
I tried to tie the screws alternately by a small amount each to catch that moment, when clicking is noticeable again. So now they're both almost fully tied, peeking from the housing by 0.1~0.2 mm. Works for now at least.

My next step is to buy aluminum bumper. Which are all ugly af but I hope it will prevent accidental twists and further curving of the housing.

Does your phone still click as bad as before? Or it has completely stopped clicking no matter how you twist it?

I try not to twist it hard since I noticed that it can literally separate the parts of the phone and increase the gap between housing and screen frame.
But yes, that method definitely helped a lot for normal use conditions at least.

After seeing so many mixed things about loosening and tightening the screws I gave in and ordered a pentalobe screwdriver. The creaking was getting worse and it was driving me crazy. I posted a video a couple pages back of how bad it was.
Instead of tightening the screws I did what some had said and loosened them a tiny bit. The creaking was instantly much quieter and the screws are still very secure.
Before loosening them I was able to make the phone creak or click by normal usage such as holding it firmly and force touching the screen or pushing one of the bottom corners. After slightly loosening them I'm unable to recreate the sound unless I twist opposite corners of the phone or do a very firm force touch.

All in all the problem is still there, and could become worse, but for $5 the annoyance factor went from a 9/10 to a 1/10.

Same here.

Any progress with new batches? Still creaking? I hate apple this year, why they just can't do iPhone right after so many iterations? I've changed the watch because of solid piece of gunk under display. Then iPhone because of loud hissing. Than iPhone case, because it was poorly made. It's just not acceptable for money they ask.

No luck bro, I have bought 4 iphone 7 pluses, and I returned 3 of them and keep the one that has the least problem. All them ranging from week 39 to week 41. Overall, the problem still persit regardless of the production weeks or batches :))

I've replaced my 7+ 3 times and all of them have the clicking noise. The Apple store noted that I couldn't bring the phone back in to get another replacement for the same issue. In any case, I went out and bought a pentalobe screwdriver and tried tightening screws. No change. However, I loosened both screws and twisted the phone to make it click. After a couple twists, the clicking stopped and I proceeded to tighten the screws back slightly. Since then no problems. If you're still having this issue I suggest giving that a try.

The phone stopped clicking!!! Looks like something inside the phone was snapped or broken ;)) that's why it doesnt click any more

"Store noted"!? WT#! Write an email to Mr. Cook to check the grammar in the note.

I have already exchanged my phone for this but the problem remained. It was a different corner that makes most of the noise now.
This is very disturbing in the long run and it makes me scared of using my phone.
When I asked for the exchange, they emphasized this is an exception that they make the exchange.
This is definitely in the design and I would guess the same problem will remain in the first few patches at least.
Not sure if this is specific for Jet black, I have't tried any other 7+.
I have used all the Iphone since 3GS (except for 5c and 6s and Yes I bought both 6 and 6+ because I was not sure about the size) and this is the first time it has this issue.
I am not sure if I am really picky or paranoid but I do like my phone less because of this.

Hi all,

I have just bought a pendalobe screedriver, I tried loosening it and tightening it a few time. As I remove the scews completely out of the body, the phone does not creak regardless of how you try to replicate the noise. When I tighten the screws, the phone starts to make the noise again.

Now what I am thinking is that iphone 7 plus was made to resist water and dust so that aome components were added to the gap between the phone metal housing and the front glass. Since the 7 plus is larger than the 7 and it will physically more flexible, when the phone is twisted, everything inside will rub against another, making the creaking sounds.

My iPhone 7+ (matte black) makes clicking sound not only when I twist it, but also when I just press it hard (a bit harder than 3d touching) with my finger on the bottom side of the screen or on the left and the right side of the home button.

Anyone has this issue? Is this common as well?

Mine doesn't do it when I twist it, but it does when I press it on the lower left side, and only when I press harder than activating 3D Touch. It's not worth replacing it, IMO, because it only does it when I press hard and I worry that I would get a replacement with worse issues. My iPhone 7+ is otherwise fine.

I just found that mine even sometimes makes the sound when I press it less hard (just as hard as activating 3d touch)... But I'm not going to replace it either because of the same reason. Thank you.
