Actually, just noticed mine making a very small faint clicking noise coming from the frame when I switch the mute button up and down (not the click from the switch). But it only happened when my phone was running warm due to an app. When my phone cooled down, the clicking noise stopped even when trying to reproduce it. I wonder if temperature to the body of the phone has any effect or contributes to the clicking.

My first post here after monitoring this thread closely. I replaced my iPhone 7+ Black three times because of this clicking sound on the edges of the phone when held in landscape. Some Genius Bar reps thought I was crazy, some thought it was totally unacceptable when they were able to reproduce the issue.
Now at my fourth 7+ Black and I'm happy to report that using a pentalobe screwdriver was THE SOLUTION for me as well. Tightening the screws actually made the sound even worse. Thus, I loosened them progressively until the clicking sound fully disappeared. I got my screwdriver kit on Amazon for less than 10 dollars btw. I'm so relieved and you will be too :)

I was recording a video with my old iPhone 6 not the Plus version. And the iPhone got quite hot as the video took long and guess what happened? I had the click at the right bottom side. And the noise was gone when the iPhone was cooled down.

I am not an engineer but I started to suspect, there might a micron level expansion of the body and it may cause this noise.

If you have this probem return or exchange it i notice the recent ones dont have this problem anymore

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem that I'm having. I have a 7 plus in black and everything about is perfect except whenever the phone is put under any amount of flex (from lifting it up or just holding it with two hands) the phone makes a slight creaking sound that sounds like something is loose (not a bending sound). The smallest amount of flex from everyday use causes the left side to make that sound which is quite audible. Another example is when I'm holding it with two hands, and press the top left and bottom right portions of the screen at the same time, it makes a slight click. Again, I'm not bending it or trying to bend it in any way. It's really annoying... I would love to exchange it for another one, but all of the apples stores within a 50 miles radius of me are completely out of stock.

*****************************************************************************************

This is not a normal creaking sound. I took my iPhone 7 Plus 128gb to the Apple Store with the same issue. The store first said they replaced the devices display it is a known issue and is not normal. I took it to my car and checked the phone. The creak was still there. I walked back into the Apple Store and demanded the screen be fixed. The manager replaced my entire device. There is something wrong with your phone. The issue is due to rushed manufacturing and improperly assembling some devices! I have x2 7 Plus phones and the other phone does not emit any creaking sound at all just like my new device. No creaking sound. The new iPhone 7 plus works like a dream. It's the best phone Apple has made. Go get your phone replaced!

Just do what I wrote there guys, it worked to my surprise and the clicking sound went away completely. It's been almost a week now and it's perfect.

I just bought the pentalobe screwdriver, but now I'm afraid of tightening it or loosening it will affect the water seal of the phone.

Damn, was about to trade in my 7 for the plus but not after seeing this!

So far no clicks on the 7 at all. My only issue (small) is the volume down isn't as "clicky" as the up button ... guess that's a bit too OCD lol

I decided to loosen and re-tighten the screw. I just did it on one side since I noticed it would only creak on a specific spot. I noticed they were screwed really tight. I loosened it a bit, and re-tightened it. The creaking stopped. It fixed it 100%. No more creaking!!

Thanks for the tip guys!

I dont believe screw will fix this cause i believe its adhesive issue on the screen.

I had the same problem, iPhone 7 plus. I noticed it after only having it 5 days the clicking and creaking sounds. Took it to the Apple Store they replaced the phone, two days later same thing with the replacement phone. None of the features on the phone seem to be experiencing interference because of this issue, however, when you spend hard earned money on something you don't want it to feel like it's cheap. If I wanted a phone that clicks and creaks I would of got an android.

Shame on apple for acting like I did something wrong to the phone upon exchanging it, now my phone clicks again, so do I go in there again trying to get another replacement, down-grade back to something else, or get a refund?

This is B.S.

Mine creaks right in the middle when slight pressure is applied. Doesn't bother me so far. My 6s has had the creaking sound when pressed on the apple logo since day 1 and never had any problem with it after over a year.

My first 7 plus did this if I pressed it in the bottom lower left corner, however it has since been replaced for having dust in the camera and my new one is fine.

FWIW Ive had several iPhone and iPads that have done variations of this over the years. iPhone 5 or the iPad mini may have been the first!

UK is getting cold and when I use my 7+ outside, the cracking, clicking noises are vanishing. It is apparently the adhesive used for the waterproof. Try by yourself as well, keep the phone in a cold place and see how it changes the clicking

No way ! That kinda makes me feel better about mine haha. I haven't had the chance to check out other phones myself.
[doublepost=1478471567][/doublepost]Mine is doing the same thing!!! I didn't notice it at first but now that I do it's all I notice. So annoying but glad I'm not the only one

Mine was replaced by the Genius Bar. No more noise

Manager at my local store told me a few people came in with the same issue. The Genius techs (2 of them) said they heard it and it should NOT happen.

If the screws don't fix it for you, or if you want some peace of mind, I recommend you go to the Genius Bar and at least see what they have to say about it. I got a replacement but it was, luckily, the last one they had in stock.
New? Or refurbished??

Hey MacRumors-Friends,
first: sorry for my bad english. I'm from Germany and i try my best. :D
My 7 plus had exactly those clicking noises, as in the video of iJustine. In the local Apple Store, my iPhone was replaced two times. Against a new device, no refurbished. Overall, I had three iPhone 7 Plus, all devices with the fancy clicking sound. Sometimes quieter, sometimes louder. I went a fourth time to the Apple Store. The employee said: so, that's the quality from Apple. If I'm not satisfied with it, I get my money back. They do no other replacement.

Today, I bought another iPhone 7 Plus (black, 128 GB) with Pick-up in the Apple Store. A Wonder: No noise!! Nothing! They really exist! But also on the 7 Plus test devices in the store, I've heard the clicking. Not on every Phone, because sometimes the sound is so quit, you can't hear it in a Store with so many people inside, they're talking. So, you need a lot of patience and perseverance for the replacement - or must be comfortable with the clicking. It's just luck. I'm satisfied now and can finally (!) enjoy my 7 Plus. :)

Saw the iJustine video and sure enough mine makes the same creaking... not enough to annoy me into an exchange but like others have said I hope it doesn't affect the water seal of the device.

I give up with the clicking problem. Literally all 7 plus versions have this problem. When the environment temp is low and the phone is getting cold, the clicking noise is gone. When it get warm starts again. I think it might be the adhesive for the waterproof or the casing is not as strong as the 6s.

I think the consensus here it this is a pretty common issue and the chances are you can keep playing the lottery exchange game and will more than likely receive a phone with the same and possibly more issues. The fact of the matter is this, there is no perfect phone. Its a mass produced item which in some way shape or form will be a flaw whether a user realizes it or not. Its all subjective to how OCD you are about your device. Its a phone, the intent is to use it and stop looking for issues. Just think, with the plans from the carriers its more than likely you will be upgrading in a mere 10 months to the latest and greatest. Why continue to spend time worry about a cracking noise already 2 months in to the product cycle. If it affects the function of the phone well that is a different story, but this has not been proven to do so. But in everyday use I will not be bending the phone, having my ear up to the back listening for a hiss or whatever other issues come about on these boards. Just enjoy it and be lucky you have it in hand as quite a few are still waiting (hard to believe) for theirs. That is great if the screwdriver trick worked for many that goes to show it may not be a defect after all.
