iPhone 7/Plus iPhone 7 plus annoying clicking/creaking sound

I think the consensus here it this is a pretty common issue and the chances are you can keep playing the lottery exchange game and will more than likely receive a phone with the same and possibly more issues. The fact of the matter is this, there is no perfect phone. Its a mass produced item which in some way shape or form will be a flaw whether a user realizes it or not. Its all subjective to how OCD you are about your device. Its a phone, the intent is to use it and stop looking for issues. Just think, with the plans from the carriers its more than likely you will be upgrading in a mere 10 months to the latest and greatest. Why continue to spend time worry about a cracking noise already 2 months in to the product cycle. If it affects the function of the phone well that is a different story, but this has not been proven to do so. But in everyday use I will not be bending the phone, having my ear up to the back listening for a hiss or whatever other issues come about on these boards. Just enjoy it and be lucky you have it in hand as quite a few are still waiting (hard to believe) for theirs. That is great if the screwdriver trick worked for many that goes to show it may not be a defect after all.

This. I'll take a minor click over a bad screen (yellow, uneven, interlace issue, etc.), or any of the other issues popping up on these boards, all day.

Totally agree with you. The replaced ones were ruining my phone calls, clicks were heard by the mic. No, it only clicks under twisting and I am not doing it.

Anyway, I will use the upgrade programme next year and swap it with a new iPhone

Thanks to earlier posters for their advice: after experiencing this on my 7 Plus I bought an iPhone screwdriver from Amazon for £1.99, tightened the screws and no more creaking. :)

Try to tighten the two screws near the lightning connector. Fixed my Iphone 6 when the screen made a clicking sound med touching it!

Tried it. It does make the clicking sound softer and may have removed the pressure 3D force clicks away. Nevertheless, it doesnt completely remove the click when u flex your phone. So I suggest everyone to tighten the screws and not flex the phone anymore as it makes it worst.

It's the weirdest thing. I noticed a couple weeks ago my phone was creaking, especially when applying pressure to the lower right corner, now it's seemingly moved to the top right corner.

My iphone 7 plus matte black started to creak and click 2 weeks in and it has gotten to the point where I would hear it creak when I press the home button (or lack of button). I noticed the temp sensitive thing as well (creak more when warm, less when cold). Long story short, got a replacement and it did the same thing so I decided wasn't worth trying the lottery system and decided to give the screws a shot.

Just tightened the screws on the bottom like people have mentioned and solved my issue completely. No creaking or clicking even under lightly pressured twist. I didn't want to strip them as they were so tiny. I tightened in small increments and tested as I went along. I noticed there was definitely less flex to the phone as I tightened. Had to tighten to the point where I felt uncomfortable to tighten any further and creaking and clicking was completely gone. Perform at your own risk and be extra careful. Hope this helps as I was pretty frustrated before (more than I thought). Happy camper now. Good luck!

Add me to this group and I have a 7.

Can hear it clicking when I 3D Touch. Tightened screws and it made no difference at all.

Showed to apple at the bar and they replaced. Next one did it. Tired of exchanging. Not sure what I'll do now.

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem that I'm having. I have a 7 plus in black and everything about is perfect except whenever the phone is put under any amount of flex (from lifting it up or just holding it with two hands) the phone makes a slight creaking sound that sounds like something is loose (not a bending sound). The smallest amount of flex from everyday use causes the left side to make that sound which is quite audible. Another example is when I'm holding it with two hands, and press the top left and bottom right portions of the screen at the same time, it makes a slight click. Again, I'm not bending it or trying to bend it in any way. It's really annoying... I would love to exchange it for another one, but all of the apples stores within a 50 miles radius of me are completely out of stock.
I just noticed mine make a creaking sound when I put it inside a Speck Presidio casing which is very tight.

Count me in on this issue too. I actually found this thread by googling "iPhone 7 creaking issue". Since I'll likely only have the phone for a year, I'm not sure that it will manifest into anything worse in that timeframe (ala Touch disease on iPhone 6 Plus) but it definitely makes the phone feel a little less premium than it should.

To me it almost sounds like an adhesive/glue cracking apart - could be digitizer adhesive or maybe adhesive for one of the internal components (battery, Taptic Engine, etc.). It's definitely not a comforting sound.

Hello everybody. Im a vietnamese guy, i bought iphone 7 plus matte black couple days ago, everything seem fine and until yesterdaty i dont know this crack issue exits, its terrible on my iphone, crack sound at lower part near home button, and at camera part when i try gently twist the iphone, i search internet and happily i found this useful thread, after read all 15 pages, i try screwdriver solution, and WOW its work!!! i try to loose both screw and tight both to same level, now the crack sound almost gone, nothing at lower part near home button, but there still little bit sound at camera part, its not fix at all, but better than before, actually i have try multiple times, loose and tight, loose and tight...., i realize when that two screw not at same tight or same loose level, the crack sound happen, so i loose it all, and tight it to same level.
My eng is very bad, i just to share my exp about fix this annoying crack sound, and thank all of you for this screwdriver solution :).

Hi Everybody,

My iPhone started clicking too. I brought it to the Apple Store and they tightened the screws, seemingly contradictory to what some have posted here which is to loosen the screws a little. After I got the phone back, they said "we tightened the screws and fixed it!". Believe it or not, it was actually clicking a lot worse and louder.

So I showed it to them and the Apple Store insisted that they wanted to perform a full screen replacement??? Does this next step make sense?

(I'm concerned about a full screen replacement because out of all my iPhones and models over the years, the one that had its screen replaced by an Apple Store is the only one where the screen is popping off. The warranty on that labor is only 90 days, so I'm not really that fond of the idea. I could be wrong and am guessing, but wouldn't the factory build probably have a better and more precise screen replacement process?)

I appreciate all responses. Thanks to all fellow creaking iphone friends.

After 3 weeks with "engineers", I finally received a 7 that doesn't do this.

All Apple told me was that they were aware of the problem. Never shared why its doing it.

I see where you're coming from, between the case and the phone. That squeaky sound is normal. Just like a rubber and a floor.
Try twisting it gently without a case and notice the creaking sound.
[doublepost=1480436138][/doublepost]So I just thoroughly checked my 7+ and it only creaks at the lower right portion when squeezed or a small amount of pressure is applied.

[doublepost=1480486989][/doublepost]Hi I ha
I have a 7+ black and my phone also clicks when twisted gently i am happy to know mines not the only one but I am still curious to find out why this phone does that

I took my Matte Black 7+ Plus to the apple store.... my phone started out making the faintest click noise.... and then a month later it got worse.... they replaced the screen and it seems a lot better... the repair guy said he had to put on 3 different screens to get it to stop clicking..

Also my screen has a lot bluer tint...

Did you ask them if the replacement of the screen compromised the water resistance of the phone?

I had to have a repair on my camera as I had dust in it, they said they would take the phone apart and clean it.

I was concerned about the water resistance, the genius told me that they have a machine that re seals them.
