Agreed. If the iPad Pro is any indication, they are just going to increase the price by $50. If not, I'll believe it when I see it.

I suspect not. The SE price is the sign that Apple is going to drop the price of the 7 by $50. There is too big a spread between the product lines in price right now. And let's not pretend that Apple never drops the price of its products. It does. Apple has to compete against other smartphones. And basically everyone is dropping their flagship prices. And they are throwing in extras like buy one get one free or adding in a VR viewer. It is time for the base flagship phone to drop to $599. And since 32gb is going to be enough for a lot of people, that means the actual price will drop even more for folks.

Apple knows that if it doesn't refresh the form factor that it will have some issues selling the 7 at high volumes for the next twelves months. More consistent with their past practices to have the price drop on day one and then "hold the door" for the next twelve months. Also there are going to be some savings by not having major changes to this year's phone. That will protect some of Apple's margins even if they give back $50 or so in average sale price.

Apple needs to do the same thing as google and drop the monthly fees on iCloud. They can charge for full resolution photos fort those that want it, and can do reduced resolution like Google Photos for free. They also need to bring back iPhoto... the photos app SUCKS!

It's "rumoured" they are adding more functionality in iOS 10 to the Photos app (more features like the iPhoto app for iOS they pulled a couple of years ago).

Whilst I'm happy with my iPad Pro 9.7" it was a slap in the face it cost £100 more for half the storage (compared to iPad Air 2).

Storage is never enough. Soon people will start complaining about 32GB if this really happens.

While I don't disagree, the cost of flash storage has dropped significantly, and it doesn't make sense to keep the 16GB option when storage prices are so low. There is a $5 different in price between a 16GB and 32GB MicroSD Card and a $15 difference between 16GB and 64GB MicroSD Card (based on bestbuy.com prices). The fact that Apple charges a $100 to bump up the storage is a rip off, but they have to keep those margins somehow I guess.

I can't believe all you Apple complainers. Before my first iPhone, I had a Palm Treo. It crashed every day. I complained to Palm and all they would say is it must be some program I installed that is making it crash. I removed all the programs installed and still the same thing and Palm wouldn't do anything about it. A friend of mine switched to Samsung last year from his iPhone 5. At first, he loved it then it started crashing. He called up Samsung and guess what? They said it must be an app he installed that is causing it to crash. He removed all the apps and it is still crashing. No Updates to fix it. So now he will switch back to an iPhone when the iPhone 7 comes out.

I fully agree, but that doesn't change the fact that a 16gb base model iphone in 2016 is... 'not reasonable' to most users. Definitely not reasonable when Apple claims that phone is the best of the best.

This is why Apple is a billion dollar company and on its way to being the first company worth a trillion dollars. They milked the 16gb for a long as the could. even with tech blogs (like they card about what tech "blogs" say) frowned on the 16gb, consumers still bought the 16gb. Apple easy probably saved over 100million by not jumping on the 32gb base model bandwagon right away.

It seems to be Apples new model, who cares if you're last to the show. Let everyone else lose money and drive the building of 32gb flash storage price point down to where it's worth it to install in devices.

Yes storing pictures may well be an over estimation.
No reason not to put in 64GB, the cost is negligible.
The cost is an absolute no issue calculated over the contract lifetime for most people.

He left Apple over $100 for more storage? Clearly he's missing the point of using an Apple product.
My friend left to Android for a variety of reasons. They come down to what seems like really great disappointment with Apple not being progressive anymore.

The 16GB model is mostly used for bare essentials. That's why it's the base model. If people need more they'll just have to pay for the extra storage. What's the problem with it?! That's how every business work. You can't go to a restaurant and say in 2016 that much food is not enough.

Simply, the 32g module became the same industrial price as the 16. All about the margins, people.

I was going to say, is this now the case? If so then yes it will happen. Last I checked there was still a margin of around $4, which in terms of iPhone revenue, could be upwards of half to 3/4 of a billion dollars per year. Apple would have been foolish to give that up.

Smartphones have reached a peak. There's only so much you can do to a rectangular prism with a screen on it. Most people also only use their phone for calls, surfing, emails, snapchat, instagram, and facebook which all can be done fine on a 2-3 year old smartphone.
Heck you can do those on a 5 year smartphone so why buy another one? It about bringing something new and unexpected....a new twist on the same old that shows true innovation.

So after that announcement people should only buy a new iPhone every 3 years then. That is the only time you will see Apple actually try to give people a reason to buy an iPhone.

ATM, I really cant see a reason to upgrade from my iPhone 6+ (not 6s+). I don't see the iPhone 7(anything) to be a reason either unless there is some major wow thats not yet leaked.

I'm starting to feel the same way, but I'm getting it. I have a 6 now and have wanted a plus model since the 6s came out. My contract ends when the 7 arrives so I'll finally get the bigger screen. I'm also switching provider where I'll have the option every 12 months to switch to a new phone. So I won't miss the (according to rumors) amazing iPhone 7s/8.
