I already switched to the S7. I needed a new phone and wasnt willing to give Apple another $100 for the upgrade.

It is projected that there won't be a 64 GB version, only 32 and 128 GB (and 256 GB but possibly only on the 5.5" version). The incentive to upgrade from 32 GB to 128 GB will still be strong as 'only' $100 more gives you four times as much storage. You have to leave it to them, Apple is good at getting your money.
But the 64GB owners would get 2x the storage without spending anymore money. Just like what happened with 32GB owners.

Now that the 32gb base model will be available two years too late, it is just in time for 32gb to now be a painful experience with live photos and 4K video and the next highest tier (128gb) will be $149 higher like the iPads are now.

Exactly! The cloud isn't the answer here. Apple is still being way to stingy considering the capabilities embedded in their phones.

I've waited out the 6 series and the added storage plus the black option, plus the antenna redesign and better camera will get me to upgrade one of my phones this year rather than for next years

People need to realise that Apple will just increase the price anyway. It's not like the new 32gb model will cost the same as an old 16gb. If you needed more storage, stop complaining that the base model isn't enough, and buy a phone with more storage!
Exactly. Some people think Apple is some sort of charity... they're just like any other company. If you want more, you have to pay more.

I wish Apple would buy Dropbox and have it replace as much of iCloud as is realistically possible.

I'm not saying there should be a model for everything. I'm saying it's ridiculous that a jump from 32gb to 128gb (four times the storage) is a $100 difference, and a jump from 128gb to 256gb (twice the storage) is also a $100 difference. The base storage should be higher.
Should be higher because us consumers want more bang for our buck? That would be nice... but most companies want more buck for less bang because thats how they make more profits.

I've been buying the higher capacity "s" model every 2 years on contract for a while now. And I always get very close to what I paid for my previous one when I sell it, thanks to the iPhones excellence resale value. So not an issue spending a little more here. Great to see the boost in base storage tho.

The problem with that is that the cost of flash memory has dropped like a rock.

Now that's innovation!!!

All kidding aside, I'll believe it when I see it during their announcement.

Cool. 32GB is plenty for me. Currently using 25.8GB, with quite a bit of stuff I never used installed. I think 32GB is a reasonable entry level. 16GB is way too small.

I think I shall post my response to this news in 2022, no-one needs it yet.

I hate to be one of those people who says what Steve would've done, but when he was CEO, every bump in capacity was double the one before it.

iPhone 2G: 4gb, 8gb, 16gb
iPhone 3G: 8gb, 16gb
iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4: 8gb, 16gb, 32gb
iPhone 4s, 5, and 5s: 16gb, 32gb, 64gb
iPhone 6 and 6s: 16gb, 64gb, 128gb. Top storage increased, 16gb isn't dropped. Inconsistent with past.

We all know the 16GB model is a way to charge extra for the other models. I understand companies will try to maximize profits but this marketing strategy reminds me of Microsoft Windows:
-Starter
-Home Basic
-Home premium
-Pro
-Enterprise
-Ultimate
Am I forgetting something?

Steve Jobs made fun of it in some keynote presentation. If I were the CEO of Apple, I would make only two versions. 64GB and 128GB. I don't have ANY game installed nor big app AND I remove all pics from my phone (I backup to computer). If you go out to take pictures and make a FEW (below 2min) videos in slow-mo, forget about the 16GB.

But heck, what do I know? I'm just some fat keyboard warrior from Kansas!
