Even 32GB on the low end is criminal.
I don't agree. 16 could never work for me (short of deleting a whole lot of stuff I actually want) but 32 might. It would require more management than my 64, but I could do it.

32 on the low end will save a decent number of people from the upsell. Not all by any means, but some.

You don't need a year as 32 GB is already a joke. 16 GB was a pathetic insult form Apple but 32 Gb isn't much of an improvements. This especially considering how long we have been at 15 GB.
Yeah, I guess I would say the same thing if I were completely clueless about that market, typical iPhone users, and cost structure of it all.

Please, 32 should be base. 16 is a bad joke.
I get the revenue part but Apple should provide a fair experience and the 16gb won't allow it.
You realize that more than half of all iPhone buyers each year take home a 16 GB model and give it a 98% satisfaction rating? Year after year.

Your argument does not hold water. At all.

I think what you meant to say is that 16 GB doesn't work for you personally, and thus you are a likely customer of one of the other two tiers that Apple offers.

We can only hope this is True. Lets also hope that 64GB option starts at only $50 more, but, I may be too greedy here.

I've always paid the $100 premium to go to 64G (that's a 4X increase). I hope they don't expect to stick with the same premium for only a 2x increase (lets be realistic, they do). Which sucks as I only have 20G free on my 64G, but I'll now just save the $100 and start deleting more apps/photos.

They know their iPhone is popular and even though none of the other major companies could pull off 16GB the last couple years...Apple does.

I welcome the change!
The fact that they were still selling a 16 gigabyte phone in 2016 is hardly something to cheer. Apple has been extremely stingy and rather than always only focusing on their profits it's about time that they start listening to user demands.

I'm guessing storage upgrades will mirror the iPad Pro now, $150 for 128GB, and $300 for 256GB.

For the past 2 generations, had the base been 32GB I would not have gone with the 64GB. Now that I've been conditioned to make use of 64GB, I'd now have to pay an extra $150 for a capacity bump, assuming it will in fact mirror the iPad Pro capacity upgrades.

Apple still wins.

This is so true. This is what samsung did with the new galaxy model.

Maybe Apple will make the 32 have 1GB RAM. I just can't believe they would do something right.

I hate to be one of those people who says what Steve would've done, but when he was CEO, every bump in capacity was double the one before it.

iPhone 2G: 4gb, 8gb, 16gb
iPhone 3G: 8gb, 16gb
iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4: 8gb, 16gb, 32gb
iPhone 4s, 5, and 5s: 16gb, 32gb, 64gb
iPhone 6 and 6s: 16gb, 64gb, 128gb. Top storage increased, 16gb isn't dropped. Inconsistent with past.
Inconsistent for sure but so is the iPhone ASP when that happened. It makes sense from a business perspective.

It does seem like they would need to do some crippling of the base model. Their profits the past few years have been significantly improved in part because of the upselling resulting from a 16Gb base model. Making the base model actually usable would be effectively a price cut to the iPhone, their biggest product, and cause profits and stock prices to drop. Unless the iPhone 7 is so compelling that that concern is unfounded.

As I typed this, thewebb demonstrated what I was saying better than I could

A corporation often will buy tens of thousands of phones for employees. They are the buyers who want 16GB phones. The company provides a phone for employees to do work on using specific apps which can be done just fine using 16gb of storage.
As long as the prices stay the same, no complaints. But if the price goes up, then it's perhaps time to switch to a cheaper platform that fits the bill.

You don't need 16GB, with your single phone purchase? Great, go buy a larger phone. Just understand there are larger forces at work regarding 16GB phones, and these models exist for a reason. Someone who is in charge of buying thousands and thousands of phones needs to consider every penny.
