Too bad Apple consumers are still willing to get ripped off, lol.

Have fun burning through data and paying overage chargers.

So, one can pay for a US$ 700 phone but not have WiFi at home or work? The "inconveniences" of cloud storage would be understandable if it were 2011-2013. I have friends in third world countries (Caribbean Islands) getting affordable 100Mbps internet connections. Now with Gigabit services being rolled to the public in first world countries, it will be even less of a problem. No one sane uses their cellular data to retrieve large amounts of data. Stop making it an issue. It isn't. 16 GB iPhone owner here (with 5.8 GBs left, 42 apps installed, large library in apple music and google photos), have never felt constrained or annoyed that I don't have my entire digital existence on a phone. Oh wait, I do, I just need an internet connection which I always have. You know, being 2016 and everything.

Give it a year before you're all complaining about 32 GB.

Lol yea

We can only hope this is True. Lets also hope that 64GB option starts at only $50 more, but, I may be too greedy here.

Agreed although if we can keep prices at even the same current price points I could be happy. I'm one of those ones who has to commit to a 20-some month payment plan as is so if I can't do that and have it be worth it or affordability is an issue I may as much as I love Apple have to say bye bye once my 6 becomes a brick

Given the dirt cheap price of flash memory nowadays, it should be 64, 128 and 256 GB local storage for the iPhone 7 models. And with good reason: Apple has been rumored to be working on a new version of Apple Lossless audio compression with far higher quality audio than the current Apple Lossless format--possibly as high as the equivalent of 24-bit 96 kHz sampling rate, the same format used on Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio encoding used on Blu-ray discs. Such a new format will obviously need a lot more local storage, and bumping up the local storage to 64, 128 or 256 GB would fill this need.

Don't need a year. 32 GB is not really that much better than 16 anymore. Should be 64, 128, 256. That would work for a long time to come.
And then next year, people will complain about 64gb not being enough, and so on.

People just want more stuff for free. Understandable, but I don't see how this is any more valid than not upsizing your meal at MacDonalds and then complaining that you didn't get enough fries and drinks. Just choose the option which best suits your needs, pay and move on.

Yeah WSJ is right on the money. Apple was milking everyone for $100 extra bucks for years. Now is pretty much the perfect time to up it to 32GB. Apple knows with the recent decline in sales and the lack of upgrades in the upcoming model are gonna make for some abysmal sales this year since people are gonna hold out til next year. So its the perfect way to intice a perticulat user group. Just like the screen size upgrade timeline, apple could've done it before, they just didnt have a reason to.

It is an issue, you're just being an Apple apologist.

You're not always going to be around wifi. Furthermore; what a pain in the ass to have to rely on data to retrieve your files.

Nope, 16gb is too little. Apps have been increasing in size and one of the big selling point is the ability to record 4K video.
I always paid the extra $100 to get the next size. Just saying, it costs nothing for Apple to make the base model at 32gb.

You know, there are people that do not install dozens of apps. I am only using 11GB, and I keep videos and songs on the phone that I should actually remove. 16GB in no way gives me issues.

So what?

You don't speak for everyone. I'm on a 16gb Nexus 5 and I'm perfectly fine with it, but I have to admit that it is a limitation for MANY people.

I'll be honest, I have hated the last 3 years of 16 GB of base storage and I think it's ridiculous to find it in a $650 phone. It's not even enough for my basic user Dad who barely has any apps, no music, no TV shows, no movies, and no games. Pictures and messages is it and yet he still runs out of space constantly. 32 GB has been the standard for 2-3 years on some Android phones and I think this upgrade for the iPhone storage is long overdue.

I will say though that I always upgrade to the mid tier storage no matter what since I know I need the space. The base model never has enough storage, no matter what product it is.

It is projected that there won't be a 64 GB version, only 32 and 128 GB (and 256 GB but possibly only on the 5.5" version). The incentive to upgrade from 32 GB to 128 GB will still be strong as 'only' $100 more gives you four times as much storage. You have to leave it to them, Apple is good at getting your money.

Well, if Apple prices it like the iPad Pro storage upgrades, it will be $150 to go from 32 to 128 GB instead of $100. Really hoping Apple doesn't do this.

Ever hear of iCloud? Doesnt matter how much local storage you have.
lol ever heard of 5GB free, Apple so cheap, **** me long time?:D

You going to pay for 500GB/month storage for 4K videos? Have you ever even shot on 4K?

What gives you the idea that you shouldn't have to pay for iCloud storage? 5 GB is enough for most people, considering there are many things that don't count toward that 5 GB.

Why should your needs be the default? I pay for the 1TB of storage. Should my needs be default?

Honestly, I'd wager that most 'average' users phones no longer back up to iCloud because they fill them with text chat archives and photos. The "you do not have enough iCloud storage, this iPhone has not been backed up in 6 months" is simply a lock screen inconvenience to these novice users who will still blame Apple when they have a device failure and lose all their media and communications.

I'm okay with the larger phone being more advanced if the components genuinely don't fit into the smaller one like perhaps the two lenses camera.

However, I imagine something like additional ram could be included in both, not just the larger one.

If so, I find that to be very disappointing. My preference for the smaller form factor shouldn't shut me out of upgrades that needlessly are left out in an effort to get me to settle for a larger form factor for more money.
