Apple isn't doomed. iPhone 8 is.

I actually think that more people are going to balk at Apple's iPhone X pricing than expected.

$1000+ is a lot of money for a device who's battery & display's longevity will be shorter than the previous model.

OLED is organic. It decays. Wireless charging shortens battery life. I simply do not see these 2 features worth that much extra money. Plus, the clunkiness of unlocking the device Ho Ho Ho! style like Craig Federighi so unsuccessfully did.

1) Sure about that? because the part you look at all day...

iPhone 8

2) If they don't care about looks, they properly neither care about having the latest and just keeping using the one they have.

1) Clearly you’re just trying to mock Apple. You can’t be serious, complaining the iPhone screen side looks the same a few years in a row. You can’t be that stupid.

2) evidence? Most people here either care about performance or are too simple to care about performance and just hope their friends see the “all new” design.

No problem.
Will rise prices to (market decline + 25%) excl. AppleTax
[doublepost=1508430624][/doublepost]
Whaha !
Guess the iPhone 9 will be the 8 with new emojies and 2 new wallpapers - to further diversify looks
(otherwise it would cannibalize the X...)
Man, people will celebrate a dozen Bezel years bigtime !
So you’d love it if Apple came out with an “all new redesign” that had half a GB of ram but looked like a cardboard box. Because it’s all new and different.

Man some people are so ignorant. Can’t see design changes because they aren’t presented with fireworks and light shows.

I've yet to see any speed test that blew me away. "Significant camera upgrades" obviously isn't fooling anyone. True Tone Display? Seriously, that's so important? And finally, it's a proven fact that wireless charging only degrades the battery faster, hence shorter lifespan.

And #1, I can get a refurbished iPhone 7 in pristine condition much cheaper than your $130 discount and with more storage.

Keep selling it for Timmy Boy. You must not have worked in sales very long nor him.

OH, one last thing, IOS 11 means I lose all my free games too or as Steve Jobs once said, "Bag O' Hurt"! :D

It's a solid 30% speed increase for about a 20% increase in price. No, it doesn't blow you away, but that doesn't mean it's not worth the premium.
Double the frame rate on 4K video is a pretty huge deal. It doesn't have to fool anyone when it's true.
I never said True Tone is "so important". I listed it among many improved features.
Wireless charging doesn't degrade the battery faster. I don't know where you got that false information.
You can get a refurbished iPhone 6S for even cheaper than the refurbished 7. Your point? I'm comparing retail prices of new products, not promotional rates on used products.

Yeah, Tim must not be very good at sales. I mean, his company is the most valuable in the world, ever, but since you don't like one of his products that must just be a fluke, right?

There is no reason why Apple would not sell 200 million phones this year considering carrier plans but there is a possibility that the bulk of it might still be iPhone 7 considering the competitive price cut and the more robust aluminium casing. I hear very little excitement about the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X among non-IT people. I am not sure whether thin bezels, animated poos, portrait mode and wireless charging make enough selling points when people really want improved batteries and unbreakable glass.

Yup--all true

If Apple is selling the 8/8 plus, but not as quickly as they sold the 7/7 plus, and they know they have the X release coming, why would they not slow down production on the 8/8 plus phones to have lines ready to produce the X if the demand is high?

If the demand for the X is lower than they expect, they'll shift some lines back over to the 8/8 plus. This is just how things are manufactured.

I bet.

I mean why in the hell would you buy an iPhone 8 when it's about to be outdated (in terms of design).

iPhone X is a superior design. It's new, it's fresh. I'm not sure why Apple thinks they can get away with releasing phones with the same design for 4 years in a row. Granted, there's only so much you can do with a rectangle, but still.

That's one (valid) way to look at it. Another is, why in hell would someone spend $200 more for an iPhone X than they spent on their previous phone?

The predicted number of iPhone X buyers (which seems to be reinforced by these production numbers) is a fair answer to that question; lots more seem to want iPhone X than the media coverage and forum posts suggested prior to the Keynote ("$1,000 iPhone? No way!!!!").

What'll be interesting to me is whether iPhone X will temporarily push average selling price upwards, or whether it's a more lasting shift - an iPhone XI selling at $1k in similar quantities to the iPhone X.

... and there will probably still be shortages of the iP X, during the first few months of availability.

Okay... so here's the gamble. A fan base is a fickle thing, and not always easy to predict. So if you're part of that online-at-midnight fan base and want to actually have an iP X in hand on launch day, do you: go high and order an iP X/256, in the hopes that enough of the other early adopters are going to choke on their cornflakes at the prospect of tossing down yet another $150 for an already expensive product? Or do you go low and order an iP X/64, on the premise that the majority of the other early adopters are going to be fanatical enough that they'll splurge on the most expensive model?

Choices, choices...

They could drop that to 10% and there will still be plenty about :D

Looking forward to seeing what the demand is like for the X though, really hope to get a launch day delivery this year.

You assume that you can shift lines at a switch of a button when manufacturing is highly optimized to mass-produce and it takes several months to slowly ramp up and improve yields. The iPhone X has new components like the 'notch' and an OLED screen with thin bezels that might require specialized equipment. Although I doubt it is as easy as you make it seem, please note that I am not a specialist.

Order one of each, size color etc.--then keep the one you get first--cancel the others

While I enjoy my 8 Plus very much, it doesn't compare to a new design and an OLED screen (finally).

So many of us waiting for the X with open arms. Pre-orders and launch day are going to be a mad house.

You’re buying both the 8 and the X?

Im glad people are trying out new phones. I go through phones like underwear. I've tried the Pixel, the One Plus 5, the S8+, and a Note 8 all in the last coupld of months waiting for the X. All beautiful wonderful phones, but without software updates, having a million choices to control your texts, messages, everything needing permissions to everything, its terrible for those already invested in an Apple ecosystem. My group chats with iPhoners never work or go through. I cant not be able to talk to my wife and kids in our group chats so I stick with Apple. I feel people will find the same issues as I have and come back. A lot of people always do.
You probably live in the USA and there it’s convenient to use messages. Over here WhatsApp is the standard and is working cross platform. Also iTunes has lost to Spotify and Apple Pay still doesn’t work. Together with lagging services like maps and Siri (google maps and google now work so much better) and the outrageous prices Apple is asking for their phones... for example an Galaxy S8 is even cheaper than an iPhone 7 (not even the iPhone 7 Plus) it’s no competition at the moment and most of my friends already switched to an android phone and don’t regret it for a second. It’s sad how fast things change and I don’t believe Apple is willing to turn that tide unless they see a drop in profits.

I think that Apple already lost out to Android phones over here and a € 1299 iPhone X won’t change that.

I’m hoping for an all screen Amoled iPhone SE to debut soon. But knowing Apple, it will have the same form factor and screens.

I'm not surprised at all in a 50% production cut on the 8 and 8 plus. I would rather be surprised if they actually sell well.

It’s not Apple bashing, but they've themselves to blame for this downfall. Especially in my country. Same for their computers, iPads and iTV's. At those prices they’re dead on arrival.

o_O iPhone 7 (not even the iPhone 7 Plus) is even more expensive than the Galaxy S8 over here. You can figure out yourself what people choose over here when you compare the phone 8 with a Galaxy S8 and the tons of cheaper Chinese brands. I would actually be surprised if the iPhone 8 is a success. For me it’s proof that Apple is really out of touch with the real world especially outside the USA.

Hmmm... same specifications for cheaper.... but worried about some design? Yeah I’m pretty sure having an 8 only prohibits you from having animated emojis lmao.

And a phone with a design from several years ago. You either go iPhone X/Samsung S8/Pixel 2 XL for 2017, or not at all.
[doublepost=1508436539][/doublepost]I'm just trying to decide if the bigger OLED screen is worth the extra $200.
[doublepost=1508436845][/doublepost]
Because I wanted the 8? :eek:

I'll get the 8 if my 6S Plus dies. But it looks like I'll have another year with it. Hoping 11.1 fixes my issues.

Ding. Ding. Ding.
Should the bulk of us accept that price point, we are rewarding the decision-making that led to the price increase... even encouraging them to do it again not too far down the road.

There is no reason these phones should go up in price every year..... look at other consumer electronics, 4 K TV's, blue-ray players etc., they are a fraction of the price they started out with.

They sell hundreds of millions of phones per year....

The iPhone 8 isn’t supposed to be the high-demand phone. It’s replacing the 6S and 7 as the future lower priced counterparts to the flagship. Why did anybody expect otherwise?

Because your 'midrange phone' the iPhone 7 (not even the 7 plus) is higher priced than a flagship phone like the Galaxy S8 overhere. The iPhone 8 (really looks outdated compared to other brands and won’t sell in huge numbers because of their outrageous high prices and outdated appearance.

The 8 and 8+ are a disaster mostly because of Price, and to a lesser extent because of the amount of DRAM ... if each was listed for $100 less than current, AND each had 1 GB more DRAM, then they would both be more financially attractive AND differentiated, via the 7 and 7 +, and IMO, could be selling like Hot Cakes !

* 8 $699 -> $599 (and w/ 3 GB of DRAM)

* 8+ $799 -> $699 (and w/ 4 GB of DRAM)

NOT Rocket Science, but Apple's Upper Mgmt clearly over-played their Hand on Sept 12 wrt the 8 / 8+ !

The X is only $200 more than the 8 Plus. Now with monthly payment plans it's minor cost difference each month. This is not a surprise at all...

Ah, the typical "But I can afford the payment" statement. Knew there would be one here. Have you been to a car dealer lately?
