My thoughts exactly. The launches of 8 and 8 Plus are looking to be a big embarrassment for Tim / Apple.

They have egg on their face with this one.

I don't quite agree. Actually, I vehemently disagree.

You are forgetting two large groups of customers who are not ordering an iPhone 8 now: First, all those who decided to buy an iPhone X. Second, all those who decided they can't make up their mind between an iPhone 8 and iPhone X and wait until they can go to the store, put each in their hand, try them out and decide. Both groups are most likely as large as the group who buys today. In other words, there will be twice as many sales as today, once the iPhone X is available.

I suspect they've shot themselves in the foot. They're high prices to pay for the 8 and people will not want to pay those prices to feel like they've gotten second best. On the other hand, the price of the X is I suspect too high for most people so they will go neither. On the other hand there are the numerous similar phones which are touted as equally premium but are significantly more affordable. I would think the competition will pick up quite a few people as the easy and sensible choice.

Few people see the high price of the X. Most in the US see either ~$40/month for the 8 or ~$50/month for the X. I think the X is going to be the surprise blow out like the 7+ was last year. 1-2 week estimates on the 8 can also mean that Apple understands the demand. They have years of data to go off of now, but the X does throw a wrinkle into things.

what happens to face id when in a year or two, samsungs starts putting fingerprint sensor behind screen.
There are two possibilities really: People will happily keep using FaceId, or Apple will put a fingerprint sensor behind the screen within six months.

I'm disappointed that there wasn't a Blush Gold iphone x with a white front option however I did order through Amazon a white front screen protector for my future silver iPhone x. The reason why I didn't preorder the gold iPhone 8 plus is because of what happened to me for the iPhone 6 in which everybody at the time convinced one another to go for the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 because the iPhone 6 Plus was going to be too big so I did preorder the regular 6 only to experience instant regret when I actually held a plus model in my hand at the Apple Store realizing that the iPhone 6 was too small and had lower resolution than the plus. Then I had to wait another month to get the plus as I returned the regular 6. I feel that if I go for the 8 plus instead, I will experience that same regret. So I choose to just wait for the iPhone X.
Heh my logic was that the wait for the X could be long enough that I would just order the 8+ which has most
of the stuff the X has and just wait to upgrade to next years XS. If the 8+ is too big I guess I can just return it?
I ordered the LTE watch 3 so that may help as far as having to hold the phone one handed.
I did notice that the X does not have reachability so maybe the 8+ will be a better choice until they bring that back.

Just checked My UPS and my shipment is there!
[doublepost=1505651115][/doublepost]My 8+ is shipping UPS, AW3 LTE says "standard shipping," I'm assuming that means USPS?
Where does it say standard shipping? I assume you mean Apple.com, and that just means the shipping speed. Apple doesn’t ship high cost items via USPS; or any items that I even know of other than flat mail.

Ya know whats funny, when pre orders are hectic and delivery days slip immediatly people bitch and when they gomsmooth people say" ohhh apple sucks they screwed up this time
' people are never happy.act like Little girls

What some posters do: They decide that Apple has messed up, that Tim Cook is the worst CEO and needs to be fired. Then they wait for the news, and whatever the news is, they twist it to their agenda.

It's a hard choice this year lol! Go for the gold iPhone 8 Plus which I personally do like or go for the flagship X with higher resolution but no gold aaarggg!

Heh hard choices this year! I have a 6 so I was ready for a new phone last fall and waited too long.
I wasn't patient enough to wait 3-5 months for the X ;(
I'm wondering if Apple will bring out the gold X at a later date?

My thoughts exactly! A gold iPhone X would've sealed the deal for me. They will probably release the gold option as well as a 128 GB option in Feb/Mar 2018 when the sales slow down a bit. I prordered a gold 8+ because of the long wait for the X and for aesthetics.

Probably one of the weakest launches in recent history.

All iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models available in 1-2 weeks.

I predict the same situation that happened in 2016 where Tim Cook's pay was reduced due to lower than expected demand for the iPhone 6S.

Because everyone is waiting for the iPhone X. How is this not obvious ?

Apple watch at $600...
While iPhone 8 is just $200 more. Kinda pricey for such small thing.

The Apple Watch Sport is only $400. I have a series 2 and love it.

Agreed. Though come to think of it, do we know it is a weak launch? Or is it exactly what Apple planned for?

They might but from the looks of it I doubt it.

Despite the criticisms and claims that the X is the only valuable option,

I'm genuinely excited to get my iPhone 8! I still haven't decided if I'm getting the Watch though.
Agreed! Getting the 8+!!
Highly recommend the Apple Watch Sport! I love my series 2 and the series 3 would be all the better.

What's worst for me and I know I'm the minority here is that even if there were to be a gold iPhone x in the future it would only come in a black face cover. I personally wanted the Blush Gold from the leaks with a white front. So yeah major dissapointment here for me

Why do we think that meeting demand equals a weak launch? I bought the iPhone 8+ and am not complaining that it will arrive on time. For all we know, this is going exactly according to plan.

Also have to consider another combination: 8 isn't enough of an upgrade, and X is too expensive.

I'm hoping a lot are abstaining from upgrade in general this year. The high price of the X, the availability of the 8, the price dip of the 7, holding off on launch for more units to be made...maybe all of that might make it possible for an easier time at preorder/day 1.

Whether it is enough to upgrade is all dependent on your needs/desires. I have held onto my 5S for 4 years. It met my needs. Now it is time to upgrade.
[doublepost=1505658949][/doublepost]

I recommend you buy the 8+. I have a 5S and this is what I've been waiting for. You get the most refined 6-type model with the same chip and [edit:*almost*] the same rear-camera as the X. The 8+ even has longer battery than the X. And is $250 less (due to increased AppleCare).

I am staying out of the iPhone upgrades this year as many will do in Europe. The prices are crazy! I got my iPhone 6 at E700 ($770 at the exchange rate from that time). Now the prices for iPhone 8 are starting from E840 (over $1000  - this is almost 30% percent more)... They raised the prices in Europe when the dollar was low in respect to Euro but they forgot to lower them now when the exchange rate is pretty much the same as 4 years ago.
I suspect that many people will refrain from the upgrade for the same reason. More and more Apple is establishing a pricing policy that will alienate the part of the users that are not in its core fan base.

And no iPhone Upgrade Program in EU, so either you buy it outright or chose a plan with a carrier.
I think they won't sell many X in Europe, they may have more success with 7 now that they cut the price. Still a great phone and now more affordable, it may be a good choice for people with old iPhones needing to upgrade

Trying phones has never been an issue previously. Many like myself have been through all this far too many times to not pre-order on the day, as

1. There is a no questions asked return policy for 14 days
2. Preorders slip so fast you are better of pre-ordering in the day to get your place in line and going to a store to try one, you can always cancel.

There is also a large group of people potentially who see the 8 as such a small upgrade over the 7 and see the x as too expensive .

I fell into this group, the 8 plus at £949 is not worth it for a 7S and x at £1150 crazy. I bought a mint 7 plus for £650 with Apple care (product red)

I just got priced out ..... seems I'm not the only one .

Let's be honest, most want the latest iPhone, hence the 8 is not selling, And the x could be too expansive , especially at 64 is too small for most

UK has it, its like £69 upfront and £64 a month , that over £800 per year..... no thanks

How long do you think it will be before the Apple Watch will be available for Apple Store Pickup? I want to get the Series 3 Apple Watch (no cellular) as soon as possible.
If I preorder it I would need to pay an extra $26 tax as opposed to going across the state line to an Apple Store with no tax.
Any idea how long before new Apple products typically become available for Apple Store Pickup? Thanks!

Guy at work preordered his cellular model and it was available for in store pickup. That is how he is getting his.
