Considering the rumoured iPhone 8 design and price, I've been seriously considering switching over after 8 years of owning the iPhone. Not much has changed and iOS 11 is kinda underwhelming. Been putting off switching over to the other side for a while now and I think it's time I took the plunge.

Still going to wait for the Apple keynote just in case there's any surprises and for the Google Pixel announcement, but I think following todays Galaxy Note 8 announcement, it's looking like the prime candidate for me to switch over. The competition is too good these days to resist.

I'll take an underwhelming iOS over Android any day. The Note 8 looks beautiful and the hardware across the board on that side of the fence seems to be getting nicer and nicer. But im sorry, I just cannot get past Android. It is just nowhere near as smooth and fluid as iOS is. Not even close even.

Great! Going to be in Philadelphia on the 15th, so I was hoping that pre orders would be that night as opposed to launch that morning. Trying to stand in line and then catch a flight...not a good idea.

I wonder if we will get the iPhone Pro with pencil and such like the iPad pro. I actually would appreciate an iPhone Pro model. Maybe it would work with the iPad pro accessories (like the magic keyboard and pencil).

Would be nice if Apple released all iPhones as "world phones" instead of segmenting. It's ridiculous that Apple charges the same $ for phones that have less functionality as far as where it can be used. I understood when cellcos were subsidizing phones but we are paying full boat now. Makes sense we should get full phones. Either that or make SIM-Free phones available on Day One instead of Month Two.

TouchID better be present on this phone. It could easily be placed into the Apple logo on the back.

You won't miss Touch ID if they have good 3D facial recognition instead. Your phone will be unlocked before you'd even got your finger on the button.

Oh, and USB-C. Catch up with the times, Apple! Lightning is sucky proprietary crap.

This. Since we're apparently ditching the headphone jack, the world needs ONE standard connector so that accessories are inter-operable.

It will not have usb-c it will have lightning.

Bummer. Lightning really needs to die.

As much as I think that would be interesting.

I doubt Apple will add Pencil support to the iPhone, it’s like users requesting touch input on the Mac... The iPhone is not something Apple view as a drawing device compared to the iPad.

Are you referring to CDMA and GSM based iPhones? If so, I think there was a few years where they were able to get all radios into a single model. Maybe it was the 6 or 6s? Beyond that, I’ve almost always purchased an unlocked iPhone from apple on launch day. Is that what you mean by sim-free?

I have to you agree with you! The Samsung hardware has got really nice these past couple of years but the software is terrible, TouchWiz and Andriod is just a BIG NO for me, also the lack of updates (including security updates) is off putting. Even with the 6GB Ram in the Note 8 I bet after a couple of month it will start to lag, my iPhone 7 Plus is nearly 12 months old and no lag, no crashes no problems whatsoever and regular updates make it very appealing all wrapped up in a nice ecosystem, I'm not going anywhere except for the iPhone 8 next month :)

I see some cases on eBay for the iPhone 8 that has a circle cutout for the apple logo on the back, if some of the bigger case makers has that too it could be a sign they did put a fingerprint scanner there.

As we approach the end of August and the time that Apple typically sends out invitations for its annual iPhone reveal event, a new report by Mac4Ever [Google Translate] has pegged this year's iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, and iPhone 7s Plus event date as Tuesday, September 12. The site then predicted the three new iPhone models will go on sale a week and a half later, on Friday, September 22.

The weekdays match a pattern that Apple historically follows each year, setting an event on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and then actually launching the new iPhone a few weeks later, on a Friday. Mac4Ever's prediction is sourced by information gained from a few French telephone carriers, but at this point any general event date guess on a Tuesday or Wednesday in early September could end up as the winning date chosen by Apple, so continue to take these event rumors with a grain of salt.

Apple's financial quarter ends Saturday, September 30, so it's likely that the company intends to have its iPhone 8 event early in September, followed by the launch a week or so later. This would provide enough leeway between the launch and the end of the quarter to account for a boost in iPhone sales figures.

For this reason, in the first week of September, Wednesday, September 6 is an option for the event, although Tuesday, September 5 is less likely due to its close proximity to Labor Day the day prior, which would likely require press to travel on the holiday. If Apple held an event on September 6, the iPhones could potentially launch Friday, September 15.

The second week of September includes Mac4Ever's predicted date of September 12, and Wednesday, September 13 could also potentially be a possibility for the event. Either of these dates suggest an iPhone debut on Friday, September 22.

Looking back at the past few years of iPhone launches, the previously mentioned dates are most likely when users can expect Apple to announce and release the iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, and iPhone 7s Plus.

[*]2012 -- iPhone 5 -- announced September 12, released September 21
[*]2013 -- iPhone 5s/5c -- announced September 10, released September 20
[*]2014 -- iPhone 6 -- announced September 9, released September 19
[*]2015 -- iPhone 6s -- announced September 9, released September 25
[*]2016 -- iPhone 7 -- announced September 7, released September 16
The September iPhone event is also rumored to see the unveiling of a 4K Apple TV and potentially the Apple Watch Series 3, although when those products would launch is unclear. The same event will also see Apple delve deeper into new features surrounding iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, watchOS 4, and tvOS 11.

The wait for a buffalo hump on the back and the Gateway arch (notch of death) on the front. Purely overhyped.....

The hardware and software together is the key and a good ecosystem all makes the experience, as well as system integration and having more than 1 iphone in the house as well as friends having iPhones all makes things better, was on the Android for 3 or 4 years and while some things are good the waiting and wondering when updates were coming was annoying and never felt like was up to date, along with installing roms and different software all the time, I was just never enjoying the phone, really I can't wait For the iPhone 8, next generation hardware and probably lots of different software tweaks to suit the 8, it's interesting to see what's coming

Yes, Apple has had both CDMA and GSM in a single model. The current iPhone 7 model A1660, which is the model VZW uses and also is the SIM-Free model has both CDMA and GSM bands. But my point is that there isn't one iPhone model that serves all carriers. There are multiple models, some with all bands, some with just CDMA, some just GSM. Apple does that at the carrier's request. I understood the practice with the cellcos were subsidizing phones but they largely are not anymore. So if we are paying full price we should get the full phone, not the one the carrier wants us to have.

Yes, SIM-Free is the unlocked "world phone." You could buy one at last years launch but only in-store and it was technically a VZW phone -- which is unlocked by default. But online there is no way t buy an unlocked world phone unless your carrier sells that model. The official SIM-Free iPhone hasn't shipped until about a month or so after the iPhone ships in past years.

Can't wait to place my order online at 2am(Chicago) the moment preorders go live and get an estimated delivery date of Dec. 20th.

As always every event, there would be floods and others unable to place orders when u want to... almost like dipping in the lottery barrel to pick out "winning numbers."for cannot wait"

So what do we think, is this the iPhone Johny envisioned as being a single sheet of glass ?

Ah, that’s still an issue in the US? I’m in Canada, been able to buy unlocked on day one for as long as I can remember. And we’ve never had the CDMA version here.

With the 7 they did split again, and the GSM/international ones were with the Intel based modem I think? I wonder if it had to do with them minimizing their reliance on Qualcomm?

It's a bit hard to visualize the information about iPhone announcement and launch dates from the dates given alone, so I put all the information into an easily comparable format. The red triangles are the invite sent dates, the blue circles are the announcement / event dates, and the green circles are when the iPhone was launched. Note: Aug 28, 2014 was when the iPhone invite was sent (falls on a Thursday). Aug 27, 2015 was when the iPhone invite was sent (which falls on a Thursday). Usually, Apple announces the device during the second Tues / Wed of September, the exception being September 2016.

Idk .. just some ramblings.

Holding onto my 6+ until it dies and it is still going strong. Hopefully it can last another year plus so I can get next year's phone in early 2019.

Would be nice if they release 4K AppleTV and offer free/cheap upgrade of purchased Movies from HD to 4K.

Hope Apple Watch supports getting/placing calls on the go...don't plan on doing it much but would be nice in a pinch.
