>$1,000 for a phone is over the limit for too many people. I'm embarrassed that I pay as much as I do now for a phone.

Agreed. I'd pay over that if it featured true durability, which I'd define as a phone that I can drop or sit on without worry. But no freakin' way would I spend that much for a delicate slip of glass that shatters if I drop it on concrete.

If these 5 rumours about the next iPhone will continue to be reiterated every week until the next iPhone launches, Im outa this site.
Just because another clueless "analyst" reposts the rumours he/she read somewhere doesn't mean it has to be front page news on MR, or?

it's called Mac RUMORS for a reason :D

So how would that work reliably at a club for example

You mean like at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club? It would be fantastic. Many people are saying it would be the greatest unlocking thingy ever created. The best people. Experts, the experts are all saying it! They're saying it will be the greatest phone ever built by man. It will unlock so effortlessly you'll get tired of unlocking. Am I right people, am I right?

Wouldn't surprise me if Apple replaces Touch ID. They rather go the easy way out rather than include Touch ID underneath the glass or rear part of the phone in addition to a retina/iris scanner. Those scanners aren't 100% accurate because of glasses or contacts.

It would be so nice if I could get my macrumors fix without the side of political BS. I'm starting to hate the internet.

This is hardly a feature that's worth an extra $100 to me. It's pretty much bragging rights over the competition at that cost.

replacing touchID? No. In addition? Maybe.
Why? It's much better than touch ID, you just look at your phone, and you're in. Microsoft has been doing this for years. What do you mean low light? The heat of your face is the light. The home button is just contributing to the enormous bezel, it has to go!

Apple's widely expected 5.8-inch iPhone with an edge-to-edge OLED display will feature a front-facing 3D laser scanner for facial recognition, corroborating previous rumors, according to JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall.

Easy to debunk. Just how exactly is that going to work with Apple Pay?

While the phone may have both facial recognition *and* Touch ID of some sort, it's very unlikely that they are going to replace Touch ID entirely.

Sure, facial recognition is great ... except when you're trying to authenticate your ApplePay payment at the coffee shop and have to awkwardly hold up the phone and payment terminal to your face before you can get your latte. ;-)

I'd be interested to see how accurate this could be. Touch ID was implemented well from the start and I'm confident it would be more of the same with this. However I can't imagine Touch ID would be removed just yet, no matter the accuracy of the facial recognition.

I can't see it happening as a replacement...it's a really long shot!
I can't imagine using facial recognition for Apple Pay for example...

I hope apple doesn' t put touchid next to the apple logo or in the apple logo on the back.
It is so clumsy, but when i think of it, you can use touchid on the back for apple pay and the facial scanner for unlocking.
But please apple, don' t do it.

It's not really a feature I'd personally use, and I don't think they'd remove TouchID for it.

Can't really see this happening. Face recognition would be a nice complement to Touch ID, but a replacement? How about no?

If this turns out to be true, I'll be really worried about Apple's direction (as if I'm not already :p).

I really do not want to see touch ID go, but how exactly would this make Apple pay unusable? Instead of your fingerprint allowing the paymet through you look at your phone. Doesn't seem like a leap to me...

This guy lost all credibility when he wrote:

"He added that facial recognition will potentially be more secure than Touch ID, which could increase Apple Pay adoption among banks and merchants. "

A completely ignorant comment because the security of Touch ID is seen as an advantage over the existing system where anyone with a credit card can use it without ANY verification. There has been zero reluctance to adopt Apple Pay because of Touch ID! The reluctance has to do with costs, access to customer data, and promoting in house systems.

can't spell analyst without anal...
because that's what this article sounds like, a bunch of crap.
anyone can analyze and corroborate whatever story that you want to hear.
I'll wait for the part leaks before getting invested in the "iPhone 8"

I wonder how Apple Pay will work if this is true... Will I be taking a selfie at the counter?
