This is why I miss Steve, he would not be following the rest of the market. Gimmick after gimmick , keep it simple apple, improve the battery and focus on the user experience , building a better Samsung S8 is not the answer , never was. User experience over marketing BS
[doublepost=1487310099][/doublepost]Touchid is one of the few features that apple is ahead in . It's a great user experience to ditch it would prove the marketing guys are running the show.

I wonder how it would work if I want to unlock my phone at night.

Also, how can it be more secure than Touch ID? What about identical twins..? :-/

I hope it's as good as the Windows Hello thing on the Surface line, that thing is quick and surprisingly good, it should work in the dark too if it uses the same IR camera.

Wonder if it'll still recognize me at 2am when I can't sleep, bloodshot eyes, bags, squinting, but just HAVE to see who posted a new funny meme on FB.

If it's half as good as the Surface one, it maps your face in 3D space, so yeah, it will! Mine still unlocks my surface even if I just shave six months of beard off.

How will I pay for things securely if I need the phone on the reader and also have the phones camera facing my face? Almost no readers in stores are at such an angle to have both in alignment.

TouchID is great I hope they don't abandon it.
Finally something that worked. Quick. Take it away...

Maybe by iPhone 10 they will bring back all the amazing features like touchid, headphone jack , battery life etc and call it the greatest iPhone ever. Back to basics!

Apparently because they have nothing better to add. They already tried 3D touch with the 6S but that flopped.

What's your justification or evidence that 3D Touch "Flopped?" That's completely anecdotal by my standards. It's totally dependent on the user if they choose to utilize the feature.

My opinion, is there was an initial adjustment when it first launched and users had to be accustomed To using it. Having the Plus model iPhone, using 3D Touch is a huge convenience when short-cutting and reaching.

But don't say it flopped, that's silly to say on all accounts when you have zero data proving that.

All these very very basic concerns of a customer should have been easily thought by a highly skilled engineers that work for one of the biggest tech companies of this world. Remember the reaction before touch ID was introduced and how much more trusty the password was for customers in this forum? Actually there are endless debates about it but that was until it was tried first on the iPhone 5s! After that, it was the best thing since the slice of bred!

Memes on FB?

Dude, there's so many better places for memes than FB. :p

But I know what you mean, and the 3D scanner implies your actual face's three-dimensional "mapping" is the key, not particular light/color-based attributes like eye color, etc... I'm sure they can make it tolerant enough to adjust for natural variances in your face's shape, much like you don't always are equally tall or equally heavy. :)

That being said, please don't take away my Touch ID. I love it and I'm sure a new technology can be amazing as well, but right now I can only really imagine it as supplement, not replacement.

There's many times where I unlock my phone without looking at it directly, in the car would be one situation for example as it's mounted on the windshield, in the center, not anywhere near my face.

Glassed Silver:win

Its far too soon to completely ditch touchID and only leave us with ancient passcode and face recognition. Talk about not working. Apple isn't the type to adopt this tech this early. Also doubt they are even removing the home button after they just made it taptic
Absolutely no chanc touchid goes away any time soon. It's an idiot method of security. Face scanning? One day yea, but I doubt this year.

Also, I have a feeling the reason they made the home button taptic was to make the transition to no home button easier, so this year we may see its demise after all.

Actually, a password is more trustworthy, it's just that Apple gets to make the decisions and we don't.

What I especially like about passwords is that you can have different once for different purposes. 123456 may be for full access, 123457 is for your kids and restricts access,
123458 is for when authorities ask you to unlock your phone and you want to factory erase it.

Here's my unlocked phone, Mr TSA. What? There is nothing on it? I have no idea how that happened. Can I board my plane now?

So long as they don't get rid of the pin/password lock they can add whatever else they want. Just please don't get rid of the requirement for the pin /pass entered (regardless if Touch ID or facial id is enabled) every time it's rebooted.

What if I don't want my identical evil twin to be able to unlock my phone?

I call this BS. Why should Apple have so many patents how to use a fingerprint scanner under a display and then replace it with a 3D Face scanner? I think IF something like this will be included in the next iPhone, it will be additional.
