Not by much, its effectively the same size imo.
This makes it look like the 8 plus will show a lot more content on the screen

Crazy backorders = Apple ****ed up supply or understocked intentionally for hype.

Reasonable ship times = the phone is a flop.

In situations like this, Apple literally can't win. No matter what happens people will interpret it as a failure.

And as much as I love this forum that's exactly why this place can be really, really trying place to be around the time of a product launch.

There's so many posts like the original one I don't know if people are looking to push their point of view or genuinely don't know how retail works, let alone retail companies the size of Apple.

I just upgraded to the 7 Plus Product Red. Preorders still have delivery for 09/22 for most models. I think I will go into AT&T on the 22nd and see it in person, and if it seems like a big difference in performance, etc, I will return my 7 Plus and upgrade to the 8 Plus.
I actually considered doing that but it was gone from the site as of last night. That red is so gorgeous, but I'm sure I'll be thrilled with the 8+. It's an iterative upgrade, same as we would have expected if they went with "just" an S-type upgrade this time out. :)

Disappointment and backlash? From who? The X was pretty impressive. 4K apple tv was long coming. As was LTE watch. Last year was a yawn compared to this year. Hopefully there's many that feel as you do for no reason so the stock can fall a bit. I need to buy some more.

Agreed. The X will sell like hotcakes (and I keep reading it as "X" not "10" in my mind, oh well). Keep in mind that Apple already started production on the 8 and 8 Plus months ago. Couple that with a new X model and of course you're going to get a more muted reaction.

coming from an iphone 6s...im ready for a big screen finally (ip8 plus)..and some nice 4k 60fps..(that was a big selling point for me!) I loved 1080p 60fps..cant wait to see 4k 60fps on my 4k oled tv.

Yeah, I love the Product Red version. To me, it looks better than any of the new 8’s. I will still go check the 8 Plus out in store and see if I feel it is worth getting. I have 14 days on this 7 Plus to return.

Well it's 6:55 EST here and I can preorder an iPhone 8 plus, unlocked for delivery in a week or just over a week depending on color and capacity. That tells me everyone is going for the iPhone X in about a month.

Good, cuz I just put in my order for an 8+. :)

Looks like I'll get it sometime around Sept 25. (Hasn't shipped yet).

There were lots of posts here calling the 5 a stretched 4S. The 6 was a new design mostly because of the larger screen.

Anyone calling a 5 a stretched 4S is just being silly

How else do you change the design other than removing bezels or introducing gimmicks like curved screens. I suppose Apple could have gone back to squared off edges but then people would have said it looks just like a 4 or 5. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not knocking Apple or am I hardware engineer to give suggestions but the facts are innovating design in smartphones will continue to get harder as the years go on. The first few gens are the easiest. Personally i'd like a smaller OLED version.

Right on! Good luck with whatever choice you make. I was SO sad when they didn't launch a red version of the 8+. I ordered the gold and it looks pretty stunning in the photos I've seen, but I'll be annoyed if they roll out a Product Red one in like 6 months. Lol

I feel the IPhone 8 is a flop but IPhone 8 plus and IPhone X will both sell well.

That is fair, I currently have a 7 plus and I do think the 8 will have less sales than the 8 plus or the X however, I pre-ordered the 8. I could not justify spending over 1000 (because I NEED more than 64 GB of storage) on a phone. As most of us, I love apple products and I think they produce great products but I will not pay that amount of money for animojis (which I won't use) and an OLED screen. The plus is too big for my little hands and I missed the comfortable feel of my 6.

I'm glad that it didn't sell out fast. I'm moving from Android back to an iPhone (last was a 6+) and after comparing the 8 to the X... and coming from the standpoint of the Galaxy series which is way more "edge to edge" than the X... I see no real compelling reason for the X that outweighs the huge flaws. I ordered an 8+ 256 at 10am and only have a 1-2 week ship window.

I hope the X bombs in the end once people see the issues I'm outlining below because the design was horrible. People made fun of the essential phone for having a notch as well, and theirs was in the end more elegantly done, even if the phone is pretty bad otherwise. At least with the Essential it doesn't have the horrible developer "safe area" space that the X has, leading it to actually have the smallest screen of the 3 phones in terms of usable space.

Pros of of the X:
  1. oled (this I will miss)
  2. stabilized cameras
  3. obvious front-facing camera trickery for selfies that could've been done on the 8 if Apple didn't want to force X.
Cons of the X:
  1. That notch is ugly and places un-usable "ears" on the top for most apps. Will cut into videos if you want a full screen experience, otherwise videos are in a smaller than iPhone 8 screen area.
  2. The "almost" edge to edge gives very little space for grip. See complaints about the Galaxy series, especially now that "edge to edge" for the sides is on all Galaxy phones, on how easy it is for the phone to break or slip or the edges to get in the way of doing things.
  3. The camera enhancements had no reason not being on the 8 as well; Apple did it just to force those wanting the best camera to upgrade to the badly designed X phone.
  4. The design is ugly, not user friendly nor developer friendly. Developers are not going to be able to make use of those safe areas very easily, which is going to amount to letter-boxing on a lot of applications.
  5. Viewable area is a lie. See that safe area? Anything not in that blue area is off-limits for most apps.

It's just a phone! Let's get over it people. Either buy it or don't. The only reason why I am in for one is because I am sick of the design that we had for 4 years. This notch issue is ridiculous, I am sure the phone will function beautifully and if it does not a software update can fix it.

I am sure if you do not buy it there are several million people that will. From what I saw today, it is reported Apple will be ordering 40 million iPhone X's. Even if it is the biggest flop in their history they will still be OK.
