The prices were increased last year. There has been no price increase this year. The prices were increased last year because the pound was unstable after the Brexit vote, it’s stabalized now so there’s hasn’t been price bumps.

Yes but as RealDeal says, it was a big increase that wasn't unoticed, they increased the price of the Mac Pro by £500, a computer with technology not updated at all since it launched in 2013... and you don't think they'll charge over £1000 for the iPhone 8?
The only way that'll happen is if Apple are cheap, which they are, and start the storage at 64GB which for a phone with none user expandable storage costing that much, will be a hard pill to swallow.

Hello guys,

After a threw months of saving up and selling my iPhone 7 plus I have got £1100 to spend on a new iPhone 8 when it's released, do you think this will be enough or will I need to sell my car.

Thanks

Somebody has to pay for the new Apple Spaceship. Fork it over.

I'll eventually get an Android Note 8 cause I can't afford to pay $1,200 for a phone.

LAST YEAR, not this year. There's been no price bumps this year and there won't be any. The price bump last year was due to Brexit vote and pound's instability; the currency has stabilised now and there's been no price bump nor any need of one.

You’re right, the price hike didn’t go unnoticed. In fact, it was so noticed that every other manufacture decided to hike their prices as well.

iPhone increases the price from £549 to £599 and all of a sudden Samsung, Sony, HTC and LG’s prices go up by the same amount.

Consumers noticed too, but iPhone 7 still outsold every other flagship on the market, so it’s a moot point really. Whatever downturn in sales affected Apple also affected every other brand too.

Well yeah of course they will, they ALL want your money, however one MASSIVE DIFFERENCE between iPhone pricing and Android handset pricing is Android handset prices always drop over a few months and they can be utter bargains after say six months, say 300 of the price of the Note 8, yet the iPhone will still cost exactly the same as it did on day one until Apple drop the price..

Also no, the price increases are not a moot point as stated by the Carphone Warehouse CEO:

Apple has cheaper alternatives in their line up if finances was a concern. And the OLED model will not start at $1200.00 either, more around $980 for a base model.

Geskin has posted on Twitter that his sources say:

64GB - $999
256GB - $1099
512GB - $1199

Presumably that would be £949, £1049 and £1149 in the UK.

That’s been known since quite some time now.

There’s a slight possibility it will end up costing the same price in £ as in $ (£999 and $999) if Apple calls it “Edition”, at least the base model.

For example, the Apple Watch Ceramic Edition 38mm costs same in £ as in $ (£1249 and $1249).

But let’s see.

That's very true but in December 2016, Samsung knocked £100 off each of its flagships and I believe this deal was also worldwide? Apple to my knowledge did not reduce the price of the iPhone a few months after release. It's only now where we are close to the iPhone 8 launch that prices are starting to creep down.

I don't know if the iPhone 7 outsold other devices in its class here to be honest? I couldn't give a toss if it did or didn't as that irrelevant when considering price. What I have seen is far more older generation iPhones in the wild compared to iPhone 7's. I know that is not conclusive data, but I mix with a lot of iPhone owners both personally and in the corporate world and the observation was made. I'm sure that trend covers other brands too.

The fact is unless you are a tech lover or get a good deal offered on contract, there really is little difference year on year at the high end of the smartphone market. Upgrading is more of a desire rather than a need as a 2 year old smartphone is just as capable with everyday tasks as a brand new iPhone 8. I'm sure we can argue semantics over which is nicer to use etc, but that's about it.

There's little doubt the 7S will be the bigger seller for obvious reasons but the fact remains the frequency of people upgrading has shrunk in recent years and that is hurting every manufacturer. We're seeing a very saturated market.

If the keynote gets me to iPhone 4 excitement levels I could be crazy enough to buy the 256.

God knows what 2010 me would make of it, from a 16GB iPhone 4 then to over double it's price for the 8 now.

I am going 64gb if I choose the iPhone 8, but seems like it's a toss up because the Note 8 seems like awesome alternative.

Apple never does it. Prices drop only after the keynote, where they reduce the price of the previous model and discontinue the model before that.

But of course you can find iPhones cheaper through third party sellers.

True Point. But someone has to sell these phones, no matter how expensive they are. Carphone have a new leasing program much like Apple, which will be key to lots of companies to ensure profits don't plummet in the next few years. People are already transitioning to SIMO deals instead of 24 month agreements in the UK, so paying for just handsets will be the next big thing, especially since it lets more of us have a new one every year.

I'm hoping (but not getting my hopes up), that the capacity will start at 64GB similar to what they have done with the iPad's going, 64GB, 256GB & 512GB.

So my guess for pricing is,
(32GB) 64GB - 7S / 8 - £649
(128GB) 256GB - 7S / 8 - £749
(256GB) 512GB - 7S / 8 - £849

(32GB) 64GB - 7S+ / 8+ - £769
(128GB) 256GB - 7S+ / 8+ - £869
(256GB) 512GB - 7S+ / 8+ - £969

(128GB) 256GB - 8 / X / Edition - £1,149
(256GB) 512GB - 8 / X / Edition - £1,249

I know nothing official this is just an honest guess.

Most likely no.

The iPhone 7 32GB starts at £599. Apple doesn't raise prices for bumping up storage capacity across all models.

So, the 7S/8 and 7S+/8+ will cost the same as iPhone 7 and 7+.

X/Edition will either start at £949 (because Apple's pricing in £ = price in $ - 50) or £999 to match their pricing of X/Edition in US ($999), just like they do with the Apple Watch Ceramic Edition, which costs the same in £ (£1249) as in $ ($1249).

I agree with your prices but think that they will start at 32 -> 256gb for the 7S/7S+.

And 64-512gb for the new one starting at £950.

Either way jeeeez that is an impressive price!

Anyone know why the AW ceramic edition 42mm starts at $1299? Could the iPhone 8/Edition also starts around that range?

1) Because it's made of Ceramic
2) It's a smartwatch (not that easy to manufacture + Apple also thinks that watches are for fashion and show off)
3) Because Apple

And no it won't cost $1299, it will start from $999. It's been confirmed by almost every trusted source. Although the 512GB model will probably cost closer to $1200.

64GB $999 / £949 or £999
256GB $1099 / £1049 or £1099
512GB $1199 / £1149 or £1199

It wouldn't surprise me if the lowest phone comes in at 32gb and a higher starting price.

4S was £499, 5 was £529, 5S £529, 6 £540, 6S £540 I think so starting at £629 wouldn't surprise me for the new one.

If 5 and 5S costed the same and 6 and 6S costed the same, then by that logic won't 7S cost the same as 7? Apple already bumped up the price due to Brexit and unstable pound last year, that bump would've probably happened this year if the result of the referendum was different, but it wasn't, so Apple bumped up prices last year, but not because they wanted to, but because of unstable and weak pound. I don't think Apple will raise prices again, especially after the pound has regained value and is now stable. That will piss off a lot of their customers. Apple hasn't raised prices of any products that they launched this year, so most likely the iPhone 7S/7S+ will cost the same as 7/7+.

I really don’t think they will do 3 sizes for the ‘X’ they most likely will go for 256 and 512 or 128 and 256 £949 and £1049 respectively.

Production and yield is low so spreading it over 3 storage tiers on an already expensive device would leave the top tier (highest margin) performing poorly in sales.

I honk they do a ‘jet black’ type of thing with 2 storage sizes, just not sure what they will be yet, 64gb is too small and 512gb too big.

That could mean the 7 Plus costs the same as or more then the Note 8 could cost after a few months.. it certainly highlights that Apple premium pricing they charge.

No, what this highlights more than anything else is that Samsung cannot price their flagships at premium prices, at least not for very long. But boy, how they wish they could.

Just because they have 3 sizes doesn't mean they're producing an equal number of units per size. They probably have some sort of estimate as to which sizes will people go for the most, so they're probably building, say, 3 million 64GB X units, 2 million 256GB X units and 1 million 512GB X units for launch and they will adjust the numbers for future production runs depending on the demand for each model.

64/256/512 makes sense because the iPad Pro has the same storage capacities. Since the X will be a high end model, and might possibly be also called "iPhone Pro", it makes sense for those storage capacities. We might even see 7S and 7S+ get the same tiers. Anyway, they're not bumping up the prices for increasing storage across all tiers.
