No, the “plus” have always been given better camera features. That is an upsell.
No one is questioning whether the + hardware has better features. That has nothing to do with the topic. The topic is sales. This is reportedly the first time the + version has outsold the regular. You keep saying it's an upsell. Historically, it hasn't worked as an upsell since the regular version of the 6, 6+, and 7 were the sales winners.

the way I see it, iPhone 8 (and 8 Plus) were just Plan B or safe switches released to insure the success of iPhone X.
they were there so if for whatever reason (mainly premium pricing ) iPhone X didn't take,Apple had alternative options.
with success of iPhone X,they are already irrelevant.

That was my hope, but I’m also on 11.2 beta and I figured it isn’t going to get any faster than this. Safari usage suffers most for me with severe keyboard lag, but the battery life is definitely better than 11.1. I may try a restore on the 6 and see what happens, but my daughter has already asked for it as a hand-me-down, and I’m ready for the 7 anyway.

What’s odd is that my work 6S is humming along nicely

The 6S has 100% more RAM and about 80% faster processor chip. Having said that, my regular iPhone 6 is running pretty good on iOS 11.2 Beta 2. I don’t have the keyboard lag you describe.

Seems like the pluses have been gaining in popularity each cycle. The standard phone has become more niche. Moving forward I wonder if they'll even have size choices or if everything will just be X type large screen with standard size housing.

I think it’s about status symbols. We want the best of the best when it comes to phones. No one wants the 8 when the X will be better. They will give up the extra $300 to have that experience. I knew people would pay the $1000-$1149 for the X even though the media kept saying we wouldn’t.

I'd rather get a matte black 7 over the 8. Aluminum rears will still attract smudges but it's the feeling of matte over gloss/glass that makes it feel better.

Glass sandwich doesn't feel right for me. One side can be bad enough with smudges because it's touchscreen but both sides? Imagine if MacBook had a glass lid? A book cover was made of glass?

The 7 is also nearly 40g lighter than the X and about 7mm shorter. That's quite significant for some people who prefer one-handed usage. X still feels like a brick to some accustomed to the 4.7" models.

Smaller phone 5.4m
Larger phone 6.3m
5.4 vs 6.3 is in no way niche.
5.4 is only 14% smaller than 6.3

Wait till iPhone X Plus next year though...
I'm honestly hoping this is a thing. Was supper pumped for the bigger screen on the iPhone X, and a week in I'm already disappointed...

Ming-Chi Kuo greatly dropped the ball with multiple reports of “iPhone X production problems” that would render the device “unavailable until February”.

No longer a reliable source.

As they should. Wouldn’t make sense for it be have the same production level as something much higher in demand.

Honestly if you’re in the market for the 8 save yourself the extra $120 and get a 7 instead. The differences are basically nonexistent.
Until you've used the phone for a year, and it starts to slow down bc it has 2 year old tech and everything is created for the 8, 8 Plus, and X (which all have MacBook Pro level performance).

Most people buy a new phone when their current one craps out. They use it for 2 -3 years until that one craps out, and the cycle starts over again. Buying a phone that already has year old tech only speeds up the cycle. Your $120 buys you an extra year before you start seeing performance issues.

But I agree with you, I wouldn't buy an 8. I would buy a X, it really is that much better a phone.

Apple is selling more of the more expensive phones. They’re doomed.
Actually, profit margins on both phones are virtually the same due to the more costly components in the iPhone X. If anything, Apple might actually be losing money by not selling as many iPhones in general :D

I picked up an iPhone X.... I can't get past the size/weight. I liked my iPhone 7, and loved my iPhone SE. I realized that I'm not representative of the masses, but I would rather have an SE sized screen, without the bezel, that would be an awesome sized phone to put in my pocket. Not to mention, they could call it the iPhone SE X...

I like the size of the X. Granted, I’m one of the very few people that holds onto my phone until it is completely gone. My 4s doesn’t turn on anymore so I’m coming from that screen size.

Glad you are happy

I've owned every generation of iPhone , top spec, don't worry about my ability to afford one ;) my desktop is a Mac Pro .... why not eh...

It's called a forum, about mac products , people have opinions , YOU are in the wrong place.
I think I'm in the wrong place, I was looking for the bathroom...

I believe the margins are better on the X. I want to say it is 61% on the 8 and 64% on the X. I don’t remember completely.

Since Apple likes money and iPhone so much, why don't they just:

1. Sell the Mac OS department to employees in the department who would open a new company to continue Mac OS development.

2. Let other PCs to run Mac OS.

3. Turn the entire company to a phone company?

Yes, that's a huge upgrade! I'm one of those people who upgrade every year. Came from an iPhone 7 and was expecting a huge difference bc the screen is technically larger than the Plus, but it's really not that much bigger than my 7 was. They should have made the phone as wide as the Plus, but instead they essentially just took the 7 and turned the bezels into screen. It's a welcomed upgrade, but I was hoping for a footprint in-between the regular and Plus-sized models.

It's because Apple is moving folks away from the smaller phone by stripping features away from it. If the smaller phone had dual camera and portrait mode, I wouldn't be lugging this tablet around in my pocket.

Yeah, probably has nothing to do with the fact the larger phones can fit all that technology inside over the smaller ones.
Bright one

I'm surprised by the large number of people that say the price is so much more than the iPhone 8 Plus that it's just a ridiculous price.
$800 versus $1000 that's a 20% difference.
Let's see, if a cup of coffee was $1.00 versus $1.20, would they even think that it was 20% more?

Would people rather have a cheaper flip phone, a separate camera, a separate game boy, a separate tablet for web browsing and emails, a separate GPS with maps for navigation, a separate music player, etc.

Are they just trolls, or are these real people that have no idea of how much amazing technology they are getting for $1000?

Did you think all this up by yourself Gump

Yep, I just did a full restore and it is running much better. Will try a restore from backup next to see if perhaps it’s because I’m almost at capacity with music/apps/etc (64GB).

Even though the iPhone X is the same size as the normal size iPhone and has all the features of the iPhone Plus.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer....

Kudos to you for being one of the few. Because I use my phone for e-commerce, I usually hold on to them until they no longer receive security updates, but my 6 is driving me crazy running 11.

The 4.7” model is too compromised for 2017, and definitely 2018.

It’s primary saving grace is being less expensive.

At this stage I would only consider an X or a 8+.

Well... there goes the resell value of my iPhone 8 when I sell it in a few years.

I understand the desire for a bigger screen and all, but I just find the plus size to be too big for my hand. I'm a big dude but I want a phone I can handle one handed. I had the 5, liked the jump in size to the 6 and now have the 7. Wife has the 7plus but it is just too big. I'm curious to see how an X feels, but I totally get the need for a non-plus size. Though the production numbers were significantly reduced, I don't think this size iteration is going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

So why did you quote me? It is not a surprise that the model designed to upsell sells better. Apple is increasingly using exclusive features to upsell customers.
