I have to tell myself I DO NOT need the 512 as I know I'll be tempted and it'll prob be Wallet breaking bad.

Who needs ****in 256GB or even 512GB in a smartphone?
Even some of new MacBooks got less that that!
I still have more than enough with my iPhone SE 16GB.
Never needed more.

Those people who transfer ALL music to their iPhones are SICK.
Why dont you just stream? Use Apple Music, use amazon prime, soundcloud whatever!
I wonder why people still download instead of streaming.
And with the iCloud and other clouds, nobody needs to save all the stuff local on the phone.
Just backup in the cloud all of your ****in photos, videos, music whatever.

Because not everyone has unlimited data on their mobile plan. Here in the UK there are very few unlimited mobile data plans - so downloading from the cloud isn't always an option

....and as stated in an earlier comment, not everyone wants all/any of their data in any sort of cloud.

Amazing! This is literally a super computer in your pocket, more storage than a MacBook Pro!

Nothing directed at you, but who cares about this?

Really. If the fate of the world was in your hands and you had to do some sort of computing to SAVE US ALL, would you rather tap away on your phone or sit down in front of a desktop computer?

It's great phones are powerful. It's great they are faster than the computers that got a man to the moon. But isn't this all inevitable?

Hurray. Yeah.

Move on...

I love the mini steps. But recently I noticed how many people are addicted to telephones. They drive, bike and walk with it all the time. I have observed old couple at restaurant. They were on the Iphone 7 plus and even were busy with it while eating. I'm out. No more phones !!

If you want have plenty of apps and games and take a lot of photos and videos 16 GB is really hopeless.

Even without doing those things I think since iMessage can take around 2,5 GB locally if you don't delete conversations – easy to saturate the 16 GB for most users I think.

512gb? For a phone? That's ridiculous. Hopefully, that means that Mac SSD pricing drops significantly or capacity goes up.
You know the SSD in your Mac and the Flash in your iOS devices are different, right? They have different archetechtures, rated differently, different speeds, different lifespan, different costs for manufacturing and more.

Because streaming and clould storage don't work when you are flying?
Because when we travel internationally, roaming data charges are kinda expensive... maybe a bit more than just a little?! Because some files are too sensitive or private to store in the clould without end-to-end encryption, and not that many people are technically inclined enough to do that?!

Just do 128/256/512. Apple are so petty lmao.
it's more than clear, that majority of people would be more than fine with 128G, that's the only reason why they don't offer it, to force people buy more expensive version. I hate this strategy, especially with MBP

If you're recording 4K video, you could easily fill up the 64gb (less than that in actual usage space) really quickly
Depends entirely on compression and bitrate. 4K and 4mbps, meh won't take up much space. And why not, you seen how compressed and ****** itunes 1080P is?

Here in Switzerland we have 4G+ everywhere, doesnt matter on the top of a snowy mountain, tunnel or in the city. The cloud is ultra fast.
In 2 years we get 5G and download/upload with 10Gbit/s.
Who will need 512GB or 1TB memory then?

We don’t all live in Switzerland.
You have 4G on top of a snowy mountain? You probably ment a hill.

No way for the cloud. My wife had uploaded a bunch of pictures to iCloud and this has been 3-4 years ago but when she went to download them to her computer most came back all pixelated. We do still put minor stuff on iCloud now but the main question is this: Why wouldn't I want my music with me? I go outdoors in some remote regions with no cell reception and I sure do not to be paying for a streaming service.
Not arguing against you by no means but for me personally the "cloud" does absolutely nothing for me.
And we will never chance pictures to icloud again no matter what. No idea what happened to cause the picture corruption but those stay on the phone and on a hard drive plus a back up drive as well.

I am on iOS 11 public beta 6

Apple is estimating 350 megabytes per minute recording 4K at 30fps.

I actually get 3.04 hours at that rate

What am I missing? Is h.265 only newer hardware? Not implemented yet? Apples own estimating is off?
It's only able to be implemented on A9 chips and up.

Edit: I forgot that only the phones with A9 and up can even shoot 4K so Apple may have just not implemented it yet.

Edit: ooops, sorry. Don't know why this post ended up here. It was meant for: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...team-mac-app-store-coming-soon.2062921/page-2

If only NVIDIA drivers didn't have so many bugs that half of the recently released metal games doesn't run on them.

True, it's not flawless at the moment, but I think at least the support for the Pascal GPUs is concerned to be beta. I'm sure things will get better. I've even emailed Nvidia about some issues and they've been responsive.

What games utilizing Metal are having issues? I can pass the problems on (if it's something I haven't already done).

They are crap, heat generated will burn inside components or even crack the boards, this has been a very well known issue in the laptop industry for over 2 decades.

Why would they create a fan built desktop version if they could fit the same amount of power on a smaller fanless chip? and no, power-wise not the same also, clearly stated in specs at AMD & Nvidia sites.

Why would Razer waste space with a 1080? Why would desktop & mobile chips price differ?

I think I read somewhere that the Pascal version of the mobile GPUs are pretty close to their big brother desktop versions. But like you say there's of course a difference between them at the same – power consumption, clock speed, size and cooling.

Still, I've beem using various Apple laptop models for gaming over the years and while they sure get hot and the fans spinn like crazy, nothing has broken down on them.

So I had an iPhone 4 with 32 GB - Brilliant. Plenty of space.
Two years later the iPhone 6 drops 32 GB - Damn… I’ll go to 64 GB then.
Two years later the iPhone 7 drops 64 GB - Damn… I’ll go to 128 GB then.
iPhone 8 drops 128 GB. Damn…

These guys know *exactly* what they’re doing.

very few people really need 256G (I don't say it's not nice to have it), Apple should rather start putting a reasonable amount to MBP, then you will be able to fully backup your phone and still have couple of GB left lol

Still playing the silly storage game then. 64gb next tier up is four times the size. Dear me.

Still can't be any more of a POS than the iPhone 7..

64gb is sufficient for me. Would prefer 128gb as the starting option since the 8 will be priced at a premium level, but Google Photos takes care of storage. 32gb is working for me right now as well.

They should make a cheaper 32GB version.

I have a 32GB iPhone, and about half of my storage is more than half empty, why do I need 64?

People are forgetting that it'll have the new H.265 compression, which is double the compression of H.264, but with the same video quality. Theoretically, it'll take up half the amount of storage.

For photos, HEIC is the alternative to JPG and will also cut storage up to half.
