64GB for me. That's more than plenty for my needs.
Maybe everyone will go for the higher storage units making the 64GB model more achievable

I'll probably stick with 64GB, too...on my iPhone 6S+ with 64GB there are currently 11GB unused.

Then again, I'll probably use my next iPhone for at least 2 years..probably even 3, if the rumored price point is to be believed.

Ah, choices, schmoices!!!

My 64GB 6s Plus has slightly less than 9GB of available storage left. I was hoping that the iPhone 8 would have a 128GB option, but looks like I may have to opt for the 256GB.

People are forgetting that it'll have the new H.265 compression, which is double the compression of H.264, but with the same video quality. Theoretically, it'll take up half the amount of storage.

For photos, HEIC is the alternative to JPG and will also cut storage up to half.

I just tried an h.265 4K video on my 2014 MBP 13" and it was stuttery as f@@K, so it's not the nirvana answer to everything... It's only good if everything you own supports it.

We don’t all live in Switzerland.
You have 4G on top of a snowy mountain? You probably ment a hill.
I stream live from glaciers at 4300m with 4G+ everywhere here. One more reason to love my country. Network 100,00% on every peak, in every city, on every lake, even inside of glacier caves.

I can get buy with the 256GB like on my 7plus but might just go for 512GB just because you only live once.

Just stick an SD card slot in it and let us upgrade the storage.

Then Apple can make a 64GB base phone. 1 SKU = lower costs to Apple. This works for Samsung and a lot of other phone manufactures.

If they'll start from 64GB I bet a lot of people will just buy the base model.
32GB are not a huge amount of storage and I can see people going for the mid tier, but 64 is plenty of space. They're using a new codec for video and pics with iOS 11 so we can expect less space occupied by the pictures we take, hence 64GB should be more than enough.
I'd go for the mid tier only in the case of 32/128, if they offer 64/256 I'll save $100

I've got so much stuff on my current 256gb and it's not even half way full. I can't see me needing 512, I thought 256 was overkill for what I do and I use my phone for basically everything. But if the new device has 3D photo/video and VR plus other stuff.. yeah I can see where you'd burn space. I don't have any plans to buy the new phone but if I did.. or decide to get a used one later it's only going to be 256 unless a major announcement is made at the keynote justifying why i'd even need 512.

They have to offer the 64GB model so they can price one at the low low $1100.00. The 512 will be $1700, only come in gold and have the entire Car Karaoke series pre-installed in 4k.

Not happening I'm afraid. This is Apple the company that pioneered glueing computers together when they realised what a nice earner RAM/storage upgrades could be.

Look at the current models. $100 difference between the SKUs, the margins on that are huge.

I hate it when people spout "cloud storage" as the answer to everything. Not everyone has unlimited data plans or the desire to wait for data to transfer from the cloud when they want it. Some may not even want any of their data in the cloud.

'Not everyone...', no not everyone but most people might get away with it.

If you have 64GBs of storage, which is a lot, you can store your most recent pictures and videos on your phone. The rest can be stored in the cloud if your library is larger.

We're talking about the low-end iPhone not having enough storage (64GB) and I give you this argument why that is not the case.

Dang was really hoping for RAM upgrades, like 3GB on the 7S and 4GB on the 7S Plus and 8.

As always, they leave room to add features next year. iPhones are the one Apple device that you should upgrade frequently and never really own.

Sadly they're trying to do the same by making RAM and Storage soldered into their laptops, which makes them too expensive for me and disposable, unless you can afford to max them out at today's prices.

This is why, since 2012, portable Macs are a BAD value. You cannot amortize the cost over an extended period.

You have to buy and sell them quick to recover some money, and upgrade again.

This is how they've made their billions.

I thought they might do this since it's a higher priced device, like the iPad Pro. I'll be getting the 256GB model, which will be a great upgrade from 128GB.

I think it will be priced $999 for 64GB, $1099 for 256GB, and $1299 for 512GB. Reasoning: The iPad Pro is priced at $649 for 64GB, $749 for 256GB, and $949 for 512GB. The iPad Pro starts at $649, which is $320 more than the iPad which starts at $329. Add $350 to the starting price of the iPhone 7, which is $649, and you get $999. The iPhone 7 Plus goes up to $969 for 256GB. Seems about right to get a premium model for a little more than the top Plus model, but with less storage. I'd think most people already willing to shell out for the premium model will probably go for at least 256GB. I also think starting at $999 is a significant psychological barrier—even if people plan to spend more than that to get a higher capacity. Apple can push that sub-$1000 price point all day long in the ads and other marketing materials and it will be seen as premium but not absurd. Starting prices over $1000 might make many people take pause. But that's just my opinion on the matter.

As for RAM, I was hoping for 4GB like my iPad Pro 10.5" which is blazing fast, but 3GB is probably enough for a phone on iOS. Although considering the rumored price points and potential "Pro" name, it's a little disappointing. Hopefully they'll at least throw us creative types a bone so we can use Apple Pencil with it and use it as a little Moleskine sketchpad that we'll always have in our pockets, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I was sure I was going for the middle model as always but looking at my phone, I am only using 32G as it is and I do whatever I like already.

exactly. They know everyone going for the pro model will dish out the extra cash. With 4K video recording, 64 is barley passable.
You people seem to forget that the average person on MacRumors is not the average person. MOST people buy an iPhone and don't use it anywhere near to their full capabilities. Thus, 64GB is more than enough for the average person.

I still have more than enough with my iPhone SE 16GB.
Never needed more.

And you're about the only person in the world for whom 16GB is "more than enough" lol.

Those people who transfer ALL music to their iPhones are SICK.

Are they, though?

Why dont you just stream?

Because storing the music locally on your device is a million times more efficient than streaming every song every time?

I store all my Spotify playlists for offline use. Most of the songs in those playlists get played hundreds or thousands of times. So I could either download a song once, or I could download the same song a thousand times. Which do you think is better for your phone's power consumption, for the environment, for your data plan?

First they removed 64GB when iPhone 7 was out so people had to choose 128GB .. and I guess it was selling too well so they decided to earn even more by abandon of 128GB and give people no choice actually with 64GB or 256GB.. I don't like this.

Glad you like your country. It really must be nice to have that level of coverage.

Compared to the US though, your country is TINY. Compared to the world, it's smaller still.

I guess you love your frosty cage and don't get out much? :p

Seriously though, having stuff locally is probably always better and probably more efficient battery-wise for more people outside of Switzerland.

I personally prefer warmer climes, and there are no cell towers out to sea (that I know of).
