Looks at iPad Pro and pencil Apple that I am using in school every day.

Looks at airpods I am using over the other three sets of headphones I own.

Looks at Apple Watch currently on my wrist.

"Mediocre" and "poorly thought out" are amongst the last words I would use to describe them.

It's a good thing the critics are too busy venting here in this forum instead of doing something far more destructive. Imagine if they actually had a job at Apple and tried to bring their views into Apple. They might actually have a shot at ruining Apple!

Shudders at the thought.
Low standards are ruining Apple. I don't support low standards.

You may think Apple's offerings are currently substandard. I would say that they are superior in ways that aren’t important to you, and that’s fine – but just because you don’t value the same things as other people doesn’t make the product of low standards. You should be able to look beyond your own needs and tastes. Not everyone is the same as you.

I own all those too. Enjoy them but do find parts not fully thought out or lacking in usefulness.

Most egregious is Pencil. The cap is super easy to lose, the way it charges is awkward at best, and there is no good place to store the pencil. I had to buy a MS Surface stylus holder.

AW, well plenty of articles on why the AW is good but not great.

AirPods are really the best product of the TC era. But the Siri controls are quirky especially when outside and there is lots of ambient noise -- or maybe that is just Siri period. There should be more "tap to do X" options.

I don't see my criticisms as being "destructive" as you say. Heck, my criticisms don't even register at Apple. But I note them because I'd like to see Apple doing better. Having used their products for 30 years I know the best and worst of what they have produced. I prefer the best. Tim Cook and Co can do better if they stopped obsessing about wildly fat margins and absurdly thin devices.

If you've ever read anything about Jobs you'd know he was the most critical person on the planet of Apple prod ucts. He'd go into the lab to see products and verbally cut it down and tell the engineers what they needed to improve -- they'd tell him impossible, he'd tell the try harder. You know that is how the original Mac as we know it was born. The original prototype was good, but the finished product insanely great -- because Jobs was critical.

It's not about my needs and tastes, it has nothing to do with those. It's about dropping the ball on protruding cameras, dropping the ball on visible antenna lines, releasing a fragmented line up. These are poor decisions made with no attention to detail, care or bigger thinking.

No offense but that concept of an iPhone 8 in the main post is ugly as sin.
I agree, so far the concepts don't really think outside the box.

All those bragging about Proximity Wireless charging for the iPhone 8 are gonna be disappointed...

If the report is accurate, it would mean Apple's next iPhones will not have truly wireless long-range charging capabilities, but rather contact-based inductive charging like the Apple Watch or Qi-based charging pads like Samsung's "Fast Charge" stand. Qi's latest Quick Charge 2.0 spec supports wireless charging up to 15W.

I was looking at the new Macbook Pros in an Apple store a couple days ago. They have USB C type ports. No way to connect my 7+ without a dongle :(

The report also claims Apple will no longer include a Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter in the box alongside its next iPhones. Meanwhile, Apple's Lightning to USB-C Cable is said to remain an optional purchase, dashing hopes of connecting the "iPhone 8" to a newer MacBook or MacBook Pro straight out of the box.

I agree with the storage bit. I just purchased a poetic quarterback case for my iPad to hold the pencil. Previously just used the original packaging box for storage. Not really happy with the bulk the case adds to my iPad, but it allows me to go to class with just my iPad.

I guess I am okay with how it charges. Don't really find sticking it into the iPad's lightning port awkward or risky in any way.

Haven't lost the cap yet, so I will keep my fingers crossed.

The watch is definitely a work in progress, but I think Apple is getting there.

I think the tap controls are limited by nature of how we interact with the AirPods. Single taps will get confused with regular attempts to adjust the AirPods too easily, while triple taps might be hard to distinguish from double taps. At the end of the day, I feel only double-tap makes sense, and Apple decided to go with the most versatile command - Siri.

I don't see my criticisms as being "destrictive" as you say. Heck, my criticisms don't even register at Apple. But I note them because I'd like to see Apple doing better. We all want Apple to do better. And I don't believe the way forward is to continue with more of the negativity and vitriol that has apparently infected this forum.

There's a difference between giving constructive criticism and well, giving the sort of criticism Macrumours is fast becoming infamous for (you know something is very wrong when Reddit starts mentioning this place, and not in a favourable light). Slightly less than half are personal insults levelled at Apple and / or the people who work there, and the other half simply lack value and / or are lacking in any sort of critical thinking or deep analysis of any sort. Some people are just too quick to pounce on Apple without taking the time to think through what they want to say. Is fishing for likes that important?

Steve Jobs had high standards, but to put things bluntly, he wasn't an idiot and knew when to listen when the situation called for him to shut up and listen. He was open to feedback and wasn't afraid to backtrack or change his mind when he knew he was wrong. If the people here think they are trying somehow channeling the spirit of Steve Jobs by posting the sort of crap they are, then they are sorely deluded.

And every other improvement and advancement made to the iPhone somehow doesn't matter simply it has a protruding camera or visible antenna lines?

Form gimmick and wireless pad don't make a new iPhone enough for another user experience. Boring. Tim will ruin Apple.

Yet you will keep buying apple products i'm sure.
No, we're pulling out of device purchases and iOS development.

Precisely, because the whole unit wasn't considered. Any brand can graft on antennas and cameras, but Apple is held to a higher standard to solve these issues (or prevent them from being created in the first place as seen in iPhone 6/6s/7, iPad pro etc).

....and what? You expected less fragmentation? Accessories/Dongles = Margins. Sales numbers show people are not deterred by this Business Model. Why should Timmy change? The only "Industry Leading" these days is controlling the mind set of Apple users into thinking they are doing something special by purchasing an Apple product. I still use my iPhone, Mac Pro, and MBP every day. I just don't feel like it's for a purpose any longer. :apple:

What other improvement or advancement are we looking at here? OLED displays are not new, nor is inductive charging, if this rumour is correct (now, if its 'baseless' RF charging then maybe). Most of the other rumoured features are cosmetic, in which case 'visible antenna lines' and protruding lenses are significant. They also belie a "form-over-function" or, worse, "headline features over function" design ethic.

I.e.
"let's make it 1mm thinner"
"but then the lens will protrude - and we'll have to make the battery 10% smaller - why make the case thinner than the thickest component?"
"sure, but we can still promote it as 'the thinnest iPhone ever' and if we pick the right benchmark we can still claim the same battery life"

...and the visible antenna lines thing worked out well for the iPhone 4, didn't it?

when Samsung introduced wireless charging, no one made a big deal out of it, when Apple does, everyone loses their mind. that is always true. both in possible and negative way. don't even deny it. You all will

It makes no sense to not include a USB C cable in the box because most people charge with the included adapter only, so it's not a compatibility issue. Additionally, they are pushing the standard and it would make sense to at least include it with the premium model.

If the Wireless charging chip comes from Foxconn or Lite-On Semiconductor, this does not rule out the possibility of RF charging.
[doublepost=1486914727][/doublepost]Apple engineers want to drive us all NUTS with all these different cables: There are about four male ends for USB then we have Lightening cable and now we are going to another cable or what. K.I.S.S....is a concept LOST at apple.

I won't be buying this iPhone by the looks of it, they appear to be aiming for a pile of turd. I'll stick with the iPhone 7+.

Lightning is the best port so far. Although USB C is the universal port introduced by Apple, I hope Lightning continue it be the port for iDevice

wonder if apple selectively leaks these feature ideas to get a feel for the acceptance of them before actually making any decisions... guessing they do.

How dare they add such a gimmick feature.
How dare they be so late in adopting this feature.

Which of the two is it?

Both. The feature is useless, and the technology has been around forever. If they were going to add this gimmick, they should have added it years ago.

LOL at these responses about the USB-c. Many people do not use their computer to charge their phones. They charge it on their nightstands while they sleep etc. There are a limited number of people, in comparison to the total number who will buy a new iPhone, who own new MBP's.

However I think it's chicken s##t to not include a headphone adapter.
